Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

@myrtleWilson

I have just joined this thread and the name travellers rest jumped straight at me!
It was the local for my father's family that was many years ago. They lived n Wide-open and as a child it always entered the conversation amongst my father's relatives.
My grandfather, whom I never knew, was a bit of a rogue and he would regularly help the then manager organise lock ins there.Apparently it was like a private club not anyone could in before they were carefully vetted not to inform the local police.
This was in the post war era and there were a few ex servicemen who joined
I have ever been there, but my parents did a lot of their courting in what they called the travellers. This was in the 1940s when my dad was on leave from active service.I mean to pay a visit now as soon as possible.

MrsEWeatherwax · 01/05/2021 21:20

A Chat thread is a great idea.
@Someaddedsugar, he grows everything. My favourite things are pea pods etc. I don’t go much because you have to help and he is bossy. We grows lots a daffodils because I love flowers for the house.
He is loves his allotment more than he loves meBlush. It keeps him happy and sane.
We also have hens, one is at moment sitting on eggs ( she will be disappointed because their is no cockerel 🐓 Grin). They love my DD and come running for a cuddle.
DH is pleased he has finally started to see swallows because one normally nests in the hen shed.
The allotment is one of the reasons for our happy marriage. Grin

MrsEWeatherwax · 01/05/2021 21:27

Forgot to say jealous of you looking for a new bathroom @Florelei. DH said we can have new bathroom but the plumber he wants to use is booked up to October!!
Don’t want to start looking to early Blush

Someaddedsugar · 02/05/2021 13:07

We haven't had our return date yet @Florelei but I am missing the social bit of work - I always feel very lucky that I have a lovely team!

Did you just walk in at the travellers @myrtleWilson? I do love their Sunday lunches and really fancy one after reading your post so have put it on the list for next weekend .

So interesting to hear of its history too! It's a lovely village pub and I really hope it stays busy so they keep open.

Your allotment and hens sound amazing @MrsEWeatherwax!

Definitely up for a Chat thread too!

Hah @MrsEWeatherwax we went to tecaz again but in penny well today and got sorted. However you’ve got me worried that nobody will be available to fit it!

The allotments sound amazing.

@Someaddedsugar I know what you mean. I’ve really struggled with video calls. It’s so much easier just to pop into someone’s office for a quick chat than to arrange a video call.

MrsEWeatherwax · 06/05/2021 13:14

Good luck Florelei. Bet your bathroom will be gorgeous.
Did anyone get caught in the snow yesterday, you gotta love the north east, four seasons in one day.

Someaddedsugar · 06/05/2021 19:39

I did @MrsEWeatherwax! I went to the metro centre as I'd taken the day off and when I came out I got soaked - so strange as I needed my sunglasses when I set off because the sun was that bright!

I'm hoping the weather settles soon as it's just so unpredictable at the moment!

OP posts:
Someaddedsugar · 12/05/2021 06:50

Hope everyone’s ok!

The weather’s a bit strange at the moment isn’t it! I was in a call on Monday and got such a shock when the thunder started.

I’m going into the office tomorrow for a face to face meeting which feels very strange as it’s the first one since last March... I’ll be making the most of being next to Greggs though!

I need to find some bamboo canes today as our peas have started to grow and as a complete non-gardener I hadn’t really considered them needing any support. I’m also quite amazed they’ve grown!

Also looking forward to Monday and being able to properly spend time with my parents and family we haven’t seen for such a long time. It all feels a lot more positive doesn’t it!

Hi all! A thread for us all would be good.

I had my second jab on Monday, no side effects at all. I am still being a bit hermit-like, so need to get out more, also I have skewed my sleeping pattern and need to reset it to something more normal.

Does anyone know if the bluebells are in full glory, or have they started to go over?

myrtleWilson · 14/05/2021 14:07

Congrats on the second jab silvery - the last couple of times I've been up at Arnison there have been v long queues at the vaccination centre...

TheSilveryPussycat · 15/05/2021 18:29

Like last time, it all went very smoothly. Though sadly no hot Army doctors in camouflage this time. But there was a lady from the fire service in front of me in the queue, and one of her colleagues was acting as a marshal.

I keep thinking the weather has changed, only for it to return to chilly after a day. DM reports the same in S. London.

MrsEWeatherwax · 18/05/2021 20:46

My DD had a second vaccine, I hope I get called in early for my second vaccine, I can’t wait.
Hugged my DP’s, both me and my DM cried. It was so lovely to sit in my parents house. My DM looked so happy.
The weather is just so weird at the moment. Went to Broom House on Saturday and it was heaving again. So nice to see.
Hope as so many people in Co Durham have had vaccine, our figures are going to stay low. Have fingers crossed.

Someaddedsugar · 21/05/2021 19:38

I've just been to the Arnison Centre and the vaccine centre looked really busy even though it's raining! Great to see them progress through the age groups too!! I'm just hoping they still give the second AZ doses there as I'm not sure where I'll go for mine if not...

So pleased you've got to see your DPs @MrsEWeatherwax. I'll be seeing my sister next weekend for the first time in what feels like forever and I can't wait!

OP posts:
myrtleWilson · 21/05/2021 19:42

someadded I had my first AZ in boots so maybe they'll pivot AZ there?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 21/05/2021 20:56

Dh had his first vaccine yesterday so is currently shivering and feeling sorry for himself. My parents are coming tomorrow, not my mum since July, longer for my dad. I have half cleaned the house, tomorrow morning will involve manic last min cleaning as nobody has been inside my house for a very long time!

Someaddedsugar · 21/05/2021 21:13

@myrtleWilson that would make sense as the Arnison Centre is now Pfizer from what colleagues have said.

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea hope you have a lovely time with your DPs Smile! It's so lovely to hear of everyone meeting up again!

OP posts:
MrsEWeatherwax · 22/05/2021 10:31

My DH won’t be happy if Arnison centre is only doing Pfizer, as he is going there for his second jab. And Boots in city centre is harder to get too, from his work
Went to Arnison late yesterday afternoon and smiled as I passed all of the people waiting to go for vaccine.
Enjoy seeing your sister Someaddedsugar.
Not sure why Co Durham’s figures aren’t going up but relieved away. Everyone I know has had the vaccine and can’t wait for second.
Talking of the weather, I think summer has forgotten it’s due. I’m so sick of the rain.

Thelm · 22/05/2021 20:38

I’ve been to the Arnison tonight and the queue at NWL was ridiculous for the jabs. It’s so good to see.

I’ve had my first haircut since last July today and I feel so much better. We are off to the Yorkshire dales tomorrow for Sunday lunch and I’m so looking forward to it!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.

myrtleWilson · 22/05/2021 20:54

Just booked my daughter's second vaccine for next weekend at Arnison - another month to wait for me!

Had a little visit up to Hexham today and ate inside 😱 - lovely Greek place, thoroughly recommend if you're ever in the area!

Someaddedsugar · 26/05/2021 17:29

@TheSilveryPussycat did you have the AZ vaccine and was it at the Arnison Centre? Lots of friends are now having their first Pfizer vaccine there and I was wondering if my AZ vaccine would be somewhere else? Not sure how the logistics work!

Apparently it's going to be sunny at the weekend! I can't wait!! My sunflower does not look happy after all of the rain!

Hope everyone's ok!

Ooh what was the Greek place called? My Mam and Dad love Greek food and I'm trying to coax them back out of their house and into the world again now they're fully vaccinated!
Someaddedsugar · 26/05/2021 20:01

@myrtleWilson I've just added a trip to Hexham to our to do list. I always forget to think of there for a trip out!

OP posts:
myrtleWilson · 28/05/2021 21:21

So sorry @NoseringGirl for the delay - here is the place we went to
www.stalida.co.uk

We went for a trip over to Liverpool this week but unfortunately Dd's eating disorder was very very loud and distressing so we had to cut it short but onwards for the next attempt!

Someaddedsugar · 28/05/2021 21:32

We're going o pop to the market at Broom House Farm tomorrow. Hoping I can get a few treats to take to my parents on Sunday!

OP posts:
Someaddedsugar · 28/05/2021 21:37

The menu sounds lovely @myrtleWilson.

Hope you and your daughter are ok.
