Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

ReTraveller Rest I’m heard good and bad. So no help. We have been a few times and it was nice.
We still have loads of snow.
On a happier note both my DP’s have the vaccine. So I am thrilled.

Florelei · 15/01/2021 19:32

Oh @MrsEWeatherwax I’m so happy for you and them! Did they go to tanfield or somewhere else? My DP’s father (83) is getting his tomorrow morning at Tanfield.

Do you know what vaccine they got?

PickAChew · 15/01/2021 19:33

Great news @MissEWeatherwax

It took 2 sessions for dh to get the ice off his car, earlier. The boot and doors were frozen shut, too. Probably didn't help that it had been parked completely in the shade all day, as he moved it to make spece for the door fitter's van, yesterday. We have a long drive, but most of it isn't wide enough for a modern car, never mind a van. We do have a garage but couldn't actually get the car into it if we wanted to because of the narrow drive, so when he needs to make space for visitors, he has to park on the gravel, right in front of the house, and that only gets sunshine on summer evenings!

MissEWeatherwax · 15/01/2021 19:37

One went to the hub at Pelton Fell and the other Newcastle centre of life. Both said was like military precision and went like clockwork. I feel like a great weight has been lifted.

clareykb · 15/01/2021 19:39

My gran had her vaccine at Blaydon this week day after her birthday! She Was thrilled with how well it was run.

MissEWeatherwax · 15/01/2021 19:44

We don’t know which vaccine and to be honest I don’t careBlush
I couldn’t get out of village so I’m not bothering. The snow is now like snow ice! I can’t even open boot to put back my bags for life.

Plussizejumpsuit · 15/01/2021 19:44

@clareykb

My grandparents are near Blaydon and 84 & 86 so I'm hoping they will get theirs
ASAP. Lush to hear about people getting the vaccine!

Florelei · 15/01/2021 19:51

Hah - no I totally understand that to most people it won’t matter which vaccine they get. However I ask because my DM has an allergy which means she can’t have the Pfizer one. I think Tanfield were only doing the Pfizer one so I was just wondering if they had any of the Oxford one.

It’s so good to hear that people are starting to get the vaccine!

MissEWeatherwax · 15/01/2021 20:04

I know it’s brilliant. But the hub at Pelton Fell doesn’t have any vaccine for next week. The local MP has a post about it on Facebook. It’s seems once the vaccine is at local level it is going like clockwork.
Shame the government can’t organise things properly.
Pleased to hear the good news of people receiving it.

Florelei · 15/01/2021 20:06

@MrsEWeatherwax - I’ve just seen that on Facebook.

Someaddedsugar · 15/01/2021 20:57

Horrid weather today! It took 25 minutes for me to-ice the car this morning! The Arnison Centre was like an ice rink this afternoon when I went to do our food shop. Sainsburys have really stepped up their rules around one person from a household and masks being worn correctly which was good to see.

Fab news re the vaccines and the (hopefully) falling cases. I’m definitely feeling more positive today as a result of the good news.

@Florelei I’ve also only ever had two meals there but both were nice meals at the Traveller’s Rest. I haven’t had a takeaway though so would be interested to hear what it’s like if you do go.

Is your new door in now @PickAChew? I can’t imagine that was fun yesterday with the cold!

OP posts:
Florelei · 15/01/2021 21:08

@Someaddedsugar - I’ll let you know if we give it a try!

I am starting to feel a bit more positive about things now but I really feel like im tempting fate if I get too optimistic!

I’ve just put the dog out in the garden and our patio is like a skating rink. Rain and then minus 3 temperature forecast for our village tonight so I’m dreading to see what things will be like tomorrow morning.

myrtleWilson · 15/01/2021 21:48

what are the supermarkets like - I may have to venture out tomorrow for double cream (needed for a cheesecake and DH and Dd are making as part of her distraction from her eating disorder - I know making a cake seems counter intuitive but hey it works!) I've been getting deliveries for weeks so haven't been inside a supermarket - I was thinking the small Sainsbury's on Durham road may be okay - the aisles aren't wide enough for non social distancing even without covid.... the double cream has been open about 4 days - would you use it??

Someone up thread asked about Travellers Rest - we've been a few times and not had a bad meal - I think the original chef from Garden House Inn is there now

MissEWeatherwax · 16/01/2021 03:55

I wouldn’t use 4 day old cream, but I am risk averse Blush. Iceland on North Road is quite big but might no have double cream. But Sainsbury’s on North Road is normally quiet. It’s not a busy shop.

Someaddedsugar · 16/01/2021 07:46

@Florelei know what you mean about tempting fate!

@myrtleWilson the big Sainsburys yesterday was great - everyone distancing and not too busy. Hope the cheesecake making goes well. How’s your DD doing?

OP posts:
TheSilveryPussycat · 16/01/2021 11:10

I would use that cream. It lasts quite a long time, at least a week.

TheSilveryPussycat · 16/01/2021 11:35

I just check it's still ok before using it, by tasting a teaspoonful of it. Also
as it ages sniffing it will tell you if it is getting more yogurty.

PickAChew · 16/01/2021 13:28

@Someaddedsugar

Is your new door in now *@PickAChew*? I can’t imagine that was fun yesterday with the cold!
Yes. It was worth the draught as it's domuch warmer and infinitely smarter, now and no need for a kick to get it to shut! It wasn't even worth painting the old door as the veneer was peeling off.

Confused the postie, mind!

MrsEWeatherwax · 17/01/2021 13:48

Hope everyone is well. The snow is thawing fast. Was going to go for a walk but now can’t be bothered, but I am so bored.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 17/01/2021 14:26

Anyone who is in North Tyneside, there is a big cruise ship docked at the Royal Quays marina. It's there for about a month. I would avoid weekends as everyone is apparently going to see it.

I went early this morn with a travel cuppa and my hot crumpets wrapped in foil to have breakfast with a view in my car. Then had a stroll. But fb is now full of people saying how busy it is down there.

I had my first Covid jab yesterday eve, the venue was run with military precision and I was jabbed within 15 mins of arriving and queueing. Got a sore arm today, understandably but feel ok otherwise.

Someaddedsugar · 17/01/2021 14:45

Is it there due to lockdown @gingeristhenewblack43 ? That's good about your vaccine! And good to know the process is working. I was speaking with our neighbours yesterday when I passed them on our way back home from a walk and both have said they've got appointments coming up at Pelton Fell.

We've just been for a walk around Durham. It was surprisingly busy given that everything is shut! The river looked very high too.

I've been doing yoga each day alongside a spinning class a few times a week and it's definitely helping me to feel more positive.

MrsEWeatherwax · 17/01/2021 15:08

Durham city walk around the river is a lovely walk. If doesn’t snow next week, I’m going to buy a cappuccino and go for a little walk on my own. Couldn’t walk earlier because was a death trap locally. The ice was lethal.
Chester le Street has no snow when we drove though yesterday. Should really go for a walk there and feed the swans 🦢

myrtleWilson · 17/01/2021 15:32

We're going to do the escape room game tonight - thanks for the suggestion (sorry I can't recall who it was!)

Congratulations on getting your first jab! Was it at The Parks? I'm hoping my Mam and Dad will get theirs soon (they're in group 4) and we've been trying to work out where they'll need to go. I might try and go see the cruise ship but will aim for a quiet time. I loved it when the Disney one was there!
