Just thought I'd start a new thread for the north east lot as number 3 is getting pretty full!

@PennyDreadfuI hope you're ok and hope you don't mind me picking the thread up!

Hi all! I've been Missing in Inaction [sic!].
Every day I say I'll go for a walk, then every day I tell myself it's too cold/windy/rainy Blush.

I have spent a lot of time over the last few days keeping up with events in the US, including readint the brilliant continuing Trump thread on AIBU.

PickAChew · 12/01/2021 20:23

Dh has been listening to an American radio station while he works. It has a talk breakfast show, while he's working and it keeps him up with the shenanigans.

He hasn't a blinking clue about stuff closer to home, mind :o

MissEWeatherwax · 12/01/2021 20:28

The FSM is sad isn’t, no idea what is happening in Co Durham.
But our covid figures are slowly going over brow of hill.
I’m trying to avoid the news, it stresses me out so I don’t watch Blush
I have to going for a walks soon, I don’t think walking around the supermarket counts! But I just makes excuses.

PickAChew · 12/01/2021 20:32

I took advantage of the afternoon sun and let Ds2 drag me round aykley woods, this afternoon (picking up a gible on the way, of course) and giant puddles from last night's rain were more of an obstacle than the frost, for once. They're probably freezing over, tonight, mind 🥶

Iceroadtruckingextremefishing · 12/01/2021 21:14

A lovely sunny day here as well, really wanted to go for a walk along the beach but it’s a drive away and we’re staying local. We’ve a long walk scheduled for tomorrow as DD has PE on her timetable so I’m using that as a schedule. Hopefully the weather stays nice!

@MissEWeatherwax I’ve some friends in County Durham - numbers are scary where they are Sad

I had my first flu jab in Nov (carer to DD) so I think they must have me on the correct list re vaccines.

I hope everyone is keeping well, i am counting the days when I can get back up to Eldon Square and have a mooch around JL. Oh, and go to my favourite little cafe in the Grainger Market - feels like a lifetime ago since we were last there. DD just realised last night that we hadn’t been to the metro centre at all during 2020!

Someaddedsugar · 12/01/2021 21:17

I've had to stop watching the news too @MissEWeatherwax - bring back the days when I was asking 'is this actually news' when Look North came on Grin.

I was reading on another thread that the team behind the Zoe CV study app are predicting we're reaching the peak of this wave and I really bloody hope we are!

In other non-news the Traveller's Rest in Witton Gilbert have re-opened for takeaways. We visited for Sunday lunch pre-lockdown and it was lovely. Another option for everyone to consider!

Hope everyone enjoys their walks, I’m be the one who hasn’t got her coat on yet and is still watching the tvBlush.
Definitely fancy getting a takeaway Sunday dinner, just think lovely food and hardly any washing up, win win.
You know the other pub near the Traveller’s Rest, the Glendenning Arms it has one of the pictures that the spray paint guy did. It is a Glendening butterfly. I wondered why it was a butterfly Blush.
He has also just finished another picture. It’s on the Sacriston Facebook page.

Someaddedsugar · 12/01/2021 21:35

I drive past the butterfly sometimes and I had no idea there was such a thing! I’ll have to tell my in laws. They went for a walk before Christmas to see the pigeon and Norman paintings on their way to the little Tesco.

Off to look at his new one now!

Morning all. Another long day to look forward to. My salvation over the last few months has been going to NT Wallington with my DH, however it's fifteen miles away in the car, so I am now worried that the Police are going to stop us. I have mobility issues and can't walk from home as I need to stop and rest and you don't get benches in suburban streets. The little local park is quite busy and I can't guarantee a bench there. Sad There's always somewhere for me to plonk my bottom at Wallington. I am quite cross about it, tbh.

The numbers in Northumberland appear to have peaked and we're on the way down. DH was reading in the newspaper how well the NE is doing in regards to vaccinations - I now know of quite a few over 80s who have had it. As soon as I have had my first one I need to go to Boots in Eldon Square to have my eyes tested. As I am over 70 theoretically I should be jabbed by the middle of February.

Have a good day, everyone.

Someaddedsugar · 13/01/2021 08:20

I really hope the police wouldn't stop you @NUFC69. I do think there are some things that should be allowed as they help to support your mental health, and if Wallington's anything like Gibside it's all very quiet during the day with plenty of room for distancing.

It's all very unclear isn't it about what is/isn't local exercise. I was meant to be going for a walking meeting with a member of my team at lunch time but after reading the guidance that it's for exercise and not socialising I now don't think this would be allowed, whereas in the November lock down it probably would have been.

I really do hope we're peaking now. I don't want to sound cruel as I know the deaths won't peak for a few weeks, but I do hope we're at the worst point for the north east and we can stay to recover soon.

TheSilveryPussycat · 13/01/2021 11:28

NUFC69 do go to Wallington. You need somewhere you can exercise safely i.e. sit on a bench to rest

someaddedsugar well then, you would both be exercising, and just happening to talk work.

myrtleWilson · 13/01/2021 14:02

Some cautious optimism that NE numbers in general have fallen (from PHE info) so fingers crossed. DH is keen on the Korean pork belly from Travellers Rest so we may be tempted by a takeaway!

MissEWeatherwax · 13/01/2021 19:21

Good news today, my DM has her date for vaccine this weekend. So that will be both first dose. I’m so relieved.
Praying we don’t get the snow that is forecast.

Someaddedsugar · 14/01/2021 06:49

That's great news @MrsEWeatherwax! Nice to hear something good.

I think you're right @TheSilveryPussycat!

@myrtleWilson please will you give us a review if you do order?

I can't believe how much snow there is here. DP has kindly gone to clear the car as I'll be heading into Durham in an hour and our road is already causing problems for the cars passing our house. I was hoping there wouldn't be much traffic this morning so that I could take advantage of driving on the fresh snow as I find it easier!

OP posts:
MissEWeatherwax · 14/01/2021 09:01

Horrible amount of snow here, glad I don’t have to go out today. Looks very pretty unless I look at the roads!

NUFC69 · 14/01/2021 10:46

It's that horrible wet snow here, and when I went out to feed the birds my Birkenstock's just sank into the saturated ground. (I did get wet, cold feet, but easier to dry than wearing shoes. My youngest GD was planning her snowman last time I heard. I hope everyone got to their destinations ok.

PickAChew · 14/01/2021 13:20

It was so pretty first thing but it soon started dripping. Just thick slush, now. DH has taken a break from work to give Ds2 the walk he's desperate for because there's no way I can manage it.

And our front door is in the process of being ripped out and replaced. 🥶

MissEWeatherwax · 14/01/2021 20:47

That must have been cold, getting a new door fitted.
The snow was heavy here, but it’s very wet snow. I need to go for a walk tomorrow, if it kills me, well at least leave the house.

NoseringGirl · 15/01/2021 09:02

Still no snow here! Seriously contemplating moving in land.

littleowl1 · 15/01/2021 10:17

In good news - lots of councils in the North East have falling cases week-over-week. If you sort by county (click the county column) on www.covidmessenger.com

Just two councils in T&W that have rising cases. Fingers crossed all the councils are green soon.

katienana · 15/01/2021 11:00

It's great news, most areas our numbers have been below the average for a while. I guess the lockdown wasn't too late for us.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 15/01/2021 11:36

North Tyneside is still rising ☹️

I'm getting my first Covid jab tomorrow, I work in adult social care.

I hope everyone is staying safe today, it's very cold and icy here and the Coast Road had to be closed this morning due to the number of accidents.

littleowl1 · 15/01/2021 11:45

I think North Tyneside is peaking though.

I think it will change to falling cases over the next few days, or at least flatline -The week-over-week change in cases isn't massive....

I could be wrong, but it looks like cases are "stabilizing" a bit.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 15/01/2021 16:25

@littleowl1 I hope so 🤞🏻

It's the weekend 🎉 even tho we can't go anywhere it's still to be celebrated for 2 days of no work work or school work!

Florelei · 15/01/2021 18:59

How is everyone? We still have loads of snow. I haven’t even been able to get the car out of our estate for the last few days.

What’s the food like at the Traveller’s Rest? We just live along the road but have never tried it.
