Day 2/3 of symptoms and feel so unwell - can anyone handhold?

Hello,

I’m sorry for another 89 millionth covid thread. I’m on either day 2 or 3 since first symptoms started, after I was in close contact with a confirmed positive a few days earlier. I am feeling really scared.

I feel really grim. Nausea, dizziness, shaky, temperature, chills. Can’t really move from bed.

Anyone else early in the illness right now want to connect or hand hold? Or is there perhaps anyone a bit further on who could share a bit about their progression of symptoms?

This just feels really scary as I can’t imagine how much worse it will get.

This is grim, isn't it?

Yesterday (day 7 or 9 depending on whether count the slightly meh sickening days) I had such a high temperature and razor-blade sore throat that had video appointment with doctor in case secondary throat infection. He also thought might be and has prescribed 10 days of penicillin (fenoximetyl...) to kill off anything that's trying to move in.

Is that what other people who've had antibiotics have been prescribed?

Then today my temperature is back down to like 38 and I'm feeling much livelier, but coughing and feeling of pressure around chest. Ffs.

V hard to know if actually a bacterial infection involved, trying to guess myself and help dr guess.

Anyway, hope everyone else curled up warmly and on way to recovering.

waves at glad to hear it! You still on here too?! Grin Get well xx

colouringindoors · 28/12/2020 19:30

hi iguana sorry to hear you have the dreaded covid, but welcome to one of the loveliest mumsnet threads in the history of lovely mumsnet threads.

HikeForward · 28/12/2020 19:37

How’s everyone feeling?

I’ve signed myself off work for another week. Or rather I can’t go back due to fever as NHS Tracing lady said I have to be clear of fever of 48 hours or I might still be infectious. So I’m still isolating.

I just want to sleep and sleep. My exercise tolerance is so bad I’m breathless going from room to room. I’m fed up of waking to drenched bedsheets then shivering and having fever dreams! Then struggling through basic housework and childcare and crawling back into bed at every opportunity.

I’m going to ring GP tomorrow in case I need antibiotics.

But good news; smell and taste have returned fully (?day 16). Unfortunately eating makes me feel nauseated and I’ve vomited a few times. But definitely turned a corner! Cough is much better now.

iguanadonna · 28/12/2020 19:38

Thank you @colouringindoors!

Hope you're feeling more sanguine about it this evening. Bastard virus.

What really gets to me is that I'm fairly sure we had it in the spring. 3/4 of family had fevers and coughs which felt just like this. There was no way of getting tested, but we had several good reasons for thinking it was the virus. We're quite poorly for a fortnight then it took several weeks to get entirely rid of the breathlessness, then tbh much longer to recover fitness. So getting it AGAIN and over Christmas is a bit of a blow. I'm putting a cheerful face on it at home for children and DH (who really needed a holiday, not this) but what a thing.

iguanadonna · 28/12/2020 19:39

@HikeForward that sounds ghastly, even if better. Glad you're staying home and taking care of self.

BookShark · 29/12/2020 09:07

Well, DH had a very quick turnaround on his test result, so in under 24 hours we've had confirmation he's positive as well. Not really a surprise, and doesn't change much, other than the fact I can't rely on him to pick up all the slack in the same way that he has been.

Fortunately DD is being an absolute start, albeit overdosing on YouTube and PS4, but if that's what it takes to get us through, so be it.

Hope everyone's had a good night's sleep and woken up feeling slightly better. I'm off to start the day with a hot Ribena - no medical benefit at all, but I've resorted to childhood comforts! Might also see if I can get some Lucozade on Deliveroo as I seem to remember that also being a magical cure when I was younger!

Same here! I think this new mutation may be different to the original covid so no protection from having had it in spring. Also some people don’t retain antibodies for long. A few months protection at most?

It’s so weird not leaving the house!

I find this really scary , I too had symptoms very similar in the spring , but had a negative test ( was 9 days post symptoms ) but all the same , including the breathlessness and exhaustion .
colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 11:09

Booksmart enjoy your Ribena, I think I'm going to have to ask a neighbour to puck me some up. The original stuff full of sugar mind!

iguana blimey that is seriously annoying!

hikeforward that sounds like a v good plan. I think rest is v important

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 11:11

Still wsiting fir my actual results. With both dcs testing positive I cant see how this can be anything else though. Cough a bit more productive this morning.

Do others feel like their body is telling them not to move at all?

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 11:12

Sorry for typos

HikeForward · 29/12/2020 11:57

Do others feel like their body is telling them not to move at all?

Yes! My body is telling me to crawl back into bed at every opportunity. Any exertion leaves me exhausted.
I think rest may be our best defence against this awful virus!

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 12:17

Yes I agree, and am hoping listening to my body might just help reduce chances of LongCovid.

ToastieSnowy · 29/12/2020 14:20

@colouringindoors. Yes absolutely! It’s sleep, rest, need a drink and the occasional feed me!

I’ve discovered my body rejects junk food, grudgingly will accept a little carb, but loves apples, oranges, tomatoes, whole meal bread & fish.

Suspect it always has but I was not paying attention Blush

ToastieSnowy · 29/12/2020 14:25

@BookShark

Mine are glued to Xbox’s but I’m happy it’s giving them a distraction while I work on recovery.

ToastieSnowy · 29/12/2020 16:17

@HikeForward leave the housework. I’ve had rheumatoid arthritis since I was a kid and I know when fatigue strikes housework gets the boot and if you body says rest or sleep you do that.

It took me years to get the hang of it. It’s mentally very hard to switch from being active and on top of things to simply rest and sleep.

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 18:26

Positive result finally in. Not a surprise but still poo and even more scared. Taste going weird this eve and chest feeling tight and sore...

And totally avoidable if sec schools had been allowed to close one week early.

girlofthenorth · 29/12/2020 19:20

@colouringindoors it's hard when you actually see it in black and white isn't it? Best thing for my chest has been Epsom salt baths inhaling vick and increasing my inhaler.
How is everyone else doing!
@ToastieSnowy did your kidney pain go?
@LeFluffyPants are you still feeling ok?
My energy levels waned today but I managed to clean the bathroom and did a bit of weeding ( very gentle !) in garden . I'm day 12/13 today so I'm seeing that as good progress . Got DD to help with dinner. Still no smell - we were smelling the cat food tin lat night and couldn't smell a thing!
Remember when you're resting get some exercise in every hour - because covid can cause clotting . Even if it's just standing up and moving your calves .

Run4it2 · 29/12/2020 21:57

Day 9 today. Started steroids yesterday and felt much better in the afternoon - no temp all day so thought I'd turned a corner. Couldn't sleep until 5am because of the bastard steroids - woke at 11 and felt rubbish. Took my steroids and antibiotics and then threw them up into my breakfast - not my most glamorous moment! Felt rubbish all day, which is depressing. Will talk to doc tomorrow as have finished the antibiotics and think I should probably take some more... Pretty gutting as I'd been keeping fingers crossed for escaping isolation by Friday 😢

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 22:45

girlofthenorth sounds like you've got loads done!

run4it sounds like a tough day, hope you get a decent sleep.

colouringindoors · 29/12/2020 23:31

Splitting headache and nausea now. Wishing i wasn't on my own tonight.

LeFluffyPants · 29/12/2020 23:33

Thinking of everyone. Just checking in, today has been really awful for the fatigue. I have no other symptoms now really, just this crushing tiredness. My kids are 2 and 4 so it’s really hard to rest even though it’s all I want to do.

Yes tiny violins, feeling truly sorry for myself this eve.

Will respond properly to everyone tomorrow when this brain fog has hopefully lifted a tiny bit, in the meantime 💐💐 to all xxx

girlofthenorth · 30/12/2020 00:45

@colouringindoors that's rough, I'd hate to have been on my own through this . Try and sleep, take some paracetamol . If you can't sleep, watch something easy . It's horrible being alone when you feel unwell
Yeah ps, did far too much earlier !!!!
@Run4it2 steroids are work of the devil but so good to breathe properly when they kick in .

colouringindoors · 30/12/2020 10:11
