Is it hell or is it ok??

Today was due to be the day for 'the big Christmas shop'

I'm going to look like a proper panic buying twat with my loaded Christmas trolley aren't I 🤦🏻‍♀️

There was queues outside my local tesco this afternoon, I didn't go in was merely driving past. I'll order a takeaway before I queue up outside a supermarket again

Marmite27 · 21/12/2020 16:05

I did Aldi and Asda this morning. Left home at 7:30am and got home just after 9am.

It was quiet in Aldi, but had started picking up in Asda. The tills lady remembered the least time I bought fish fingers was March lock down so we had a laugh about my panic buying Grin

My mum lives an hour away and said ‘ No it wasn't [busy] when I got there but as I was leaving it was starting to pick up’. They’re always up for a bit of panic buying over there though, so probably going to be ok if it wasn’t busy early on.

What food would you start a punch up in the supermarket over?

Sorry. Had to.

Sorry, I had to laugh over the gravy incident. Obviously not pleasant for those concerned, but it brought a smile to my face. Glad I bought a luxury gravy packet mix two months ago.

I8toys · 21/12/2020 16:13

The husband is getting our M&S christmas shop tomorrow - booked earliest slot I could get at 0800hrs - does anyone have tips? Experience of this- he's going to be so feckin miserable when he comes back! Thank god I'm working Grin

"Glad I bought a luxury gravy packet mix two months ago."

Is Bisto not luxury gravy? Have I been living my life all wrong?

Me! Went to M&S Food Hall. I was there 0700. Lots of couple shopping yet again. They really need to think about telling (and I do mean telling) people to only come in as singletons. Its not a bloody day out/family occasion. It was pouring down and when I left people were queueing. Having the whole family in means the queues go down far more slowly.

The shelves were beautifully stacked and the staff said there was plenty of food. Lots of friendly staff as well.

PLEASE CAN WE NOT HAVE THE STOCK PILLING OF THINGS LIKE TOILET ROLLS JUST LIKE LAST TIME!

Its very selfish and not needed.

I know I need to get my tin hat on re the couple shopping but I am bloody fed up of people thinking their needs trumps everyone else.

One guy didnt have a mask either. God knows whether he is an exception but I think we now need to say no mask/no entry. There will need to be other ways for those people to move around whilst we are in the middle of a pandemic. I am sorry but lots of people arent wearing masks with or without a valid reason. My sister lives abroad and they dont allow anyone in without one in shops/banks etc.

I had to bring my 2 and 5 year olds with me and a lady complimented me on their behaviour and the fact they were both wearing masks. TBH the 5 year old was just excited to be in a supermarket Hmm
cremuel · 21/12/2020 16:19

Just got back from Sainsbury’s (large out of town one). It was v busy but not more than I’d expect in Christmas week - no queues to get in, not huge queues to pay, no obvious shortages (apart from cheese footballs!!)

Girlyracer · 21/12/2020 16:42

M&S this afternoon. Was a bit of a queue to get in (20 mins wait) but once in it was fine. They were sensibly monitoring the numbers. Shelves absolutely full of everything.

Oblomov20 · 21/12/2020 17:11

Sending Dh to get our M&S food order tomorrow morning. Supposed to be a priority queue for those that have booked. But I know Dh and if it's too bad he won't wait!
Sad

What is wrong with Bisto?

It's basically starch, salt, colouring and a little bit of onion flavouring, so tastes of nothing. Might as well mix up some wallpaper paste.

How dare you?

Ok, ok, summer down crispy. There's been enough blood shed over gravy today.

Popped into local Morrisons - very very quiet.

Oh give over.

I can't wear a mask and neither can I get a delivery slot for love nor money. Neither do I have friends or relatives to do food runs for me, and I don't drive so click and collect isn't an option. As one of 'those people' what would you have me do? Starve?

Also some people need to be accompanied while shopping and (like those without masks) you can't always tell who needs assistance and who doesn't. So maybe best not to blanket judge everyone, eh.

And as I've said a million times on mask threads - the sort of country which treats those with health conditions in such a discriminatory manner is not the sort of country we should aspire to be like (and most countries do have exemptions anyway).

RudolphToldRedNoseNotSymptom · 21/12/2020 18:56

Went to Lidl about 3pm. Short queue outside. Fast-moving. Got what I wanted which wouldn't really be 'stocking up' things. Squirty cream (fridge), a quiche Lorraine from fridge, tonic water, dark chocolate. Forgot to buy their Pesto pasta sauce and their coffee pods, both of which I'm out of, but I've a jar of coffee and I'll survive on tinned tomatoes on pasta if necessary. Note to self: Buy parmegiano!

Sunbird24 · 22/12/2020 08:29

We’re off to Tesco now - there are 3 of us but I’m shopping separately from my parents. Will report back!

BrieAndChilli · 22/12/2020 09:07

Went to the big Sainsbury’s. Got there before they opened at 6am and was first in the queue! By the time they opens the queue was all the way down the long car park.
Whizzed round and when we can out just after 7pm there was no queue outside.
Got everything on my list except limes and satsumas! Will pop into more local supermarkets maybe tomorrow to see if I can get some.

Lockheart · 22/12/2020 09:32

We went to a big Asda and an M&S yesterday evening. M&S was pretty busy, but no shortages that I could see.

Similarly the Asda was busier than I'd usually expect in the evening around 8pm but again, no major shortages that I could see. Not much growing parsley but that was the only thing we needed which looked low. There were heaps of sprouts, parsnips, potatoes, carrots - in fact the whole fruit and veg section looked full.

I did see one person with a trolley full of toilet roll but there was plenty left on the shelves.

Roominmyhouse · 22/12/2020 09:38

Had my email for my Sainsbury’s order due tonight, everything I ordered is coming. Whoop!

Frazzled2207 · 22/12/2020 09:39

Huge Sainsbury’s last night at 9pm was very calm, though no parsnips or lemons

MarshaBradyo · 22/12/2020 09:40

Ours had zero bananas in bags. But full shelves of loose ones. People don’t like weighing

Valkadin · 22/12/2020 09:47

It’s a habit but I have always had a Christmas food cupboard and buy stuff like the pudding and cranberry sauce a couple of months before Christmas. We got our click and collect last night. Two substitutes but all fine and no cava but no substitution, though it was just an extra bottle.

Sunbird24 · 22/12/2020 10:59

No queue for Tesco at 0900, all very civilised, lots of everything available. Everyone else turned up by about 1000 and it suddenly became impossible to get down the fruit & veg aisle. Town in general not bad today really. Off to the garden centre for a hot chocolate and last stocking bits. (Tier 2)

TheRoyalOak · 22/12/2020 11:03

DH went to Morrison's yesterday evening. No queue and most things fully stocked; lemons a bit low, but he got one for drinks. He didn't see any panic buying.

He didn't like the look of the meat, so he is going to see about getting some from our local butcher, who I think we need to support.
