Took test at a test centre 8pm Thursday. Nothing back yet.

Anyone else waiting or got any insight into average London wait times?

Can’t stop checking my emails and texts Confused

I was tested in a town in the south of England on Thursday at a drive-in at lunchtime. Results came through at lunchtime on Saturday: negative. I didn't have symptoms but was offered a test by Zoe as I had an occasional cough and catarrh.

My son sent his private test back by post on Thursday from Cheltenham. Still waiting for the results. Also expected to be negative, but who knows.

MadeForThis · 21/12/2020 10:40

Tested 11:30am yesterday, results at 9pm. Northern Ireland. Positive

Wow that's quick!

I tested at 11.30am yesterday, East Anglia. No results yet. I have a cough, headache, no sense of smell and minimal sense of taste.

I don't think it's true what a PP said, that you have to isolate regardless of test result. Some of the guidance suggests that, as it says symptoms means isolating for 10 days. But it says this on the government website here

If you have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result after being tested because you had symptoms

  • If your PCR test result is negative but you still have symptoms, you may have another virus such as a cold or flu. You should stay at home until you feel well. Seek medical attention if you are concerned about your symptoms.

You can stop isolating as long as:

  • you are well
  • no-one else in your household has symptoms or has tested positive for COVID-19
  • you have not been advised to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace
  • you have not arrived into the UK from a non-exempt country within the last 10 days. Separate guidance is available if you are participating in the Test to Release for international travel scheme
  • Anyone in your household who is isolating because of your symptoms can also stop isolating.

Coming up to 90 hours now.

I’m presuming they’ve lost it.

Santastealer · 21/12/2020 11:47

@Youngatheart00 have you phoned them?

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2020 11:56

It says on my leaflet not to chase until day 6!!!

I’ll give it until tomorrow morning.

I’m guessing there’s a crazy amount of demand at the moment. Still finding it frustrating though.

We got my son's results within 20 hours this weekend . Similar time line for my daughter last month.

Santastealer · 21/12/2020 12:02

@Youngatheart00 mine doesn’t give a time frame- the man at the testing centre told me to expect a result within 24 hours and to phone the number if not. It’s been 28 hours now but I’m not going to even bother phoning as I know they won’t tell me anything.

Really hoping they come back today though as DH has a really important medical appointment this evening.

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2020 12:07

I can’t believe the variance! I can understand wait times being longer in London/SE as that’s where the case numbers are surging but it still seems to be entirely random!

As I’m a track and trace contact I do have to SI anyway until Boxing Day but I’d just like to know. Thankfully we’ve got a family member doing our Xmas shop for us today and dropping off at the door, so grateful for that. Although last I heard they were in a very long queue!!!

I’ve done some reading up and it is only the law to self isolate if you are a) positive, b) told to by test and trace or a school.

Household isolation because someone had symptoms is actually only guidance.

Not advocating that anyone doesn’t listen to guidance of course... but I feel less stressed knowing what the law says. Being confined to the house and having my freedom removed makes my anxiety worse.

Trying81 · 21/12/2020 12:14

Went last night, NW area, thought had a sick bug but woke up yesterday with no sense of smell and can barely taste anything

Woke up today with sore throat and swollen glands, runny nose. Swollen glands don’t seem to be a recognised symptom so hoping just a bad cold as barely left the house

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2020 12:21

@Santastealer I know EXACTLY what you mean!

I’m not one for crowding in to pubs anyway but it’s the not even being able to wander out on a quick errand or get fresh air (aside from the garden....but in this weather it isn’t a great prospect) that makes me feel trapped.

I'm still waiting to hear... people keep telling me I should have heard back yesterday.

TheTempest · 21/12/2020 12:30

I tested 19th in SE (St Leonard’s) at 10am and had inconclusive result back at 3pm yesterday so 30 or so hours. Retested at 7am in bexhill this morning so waiting for the second time for results. I have a cough and sore throat and bloody awful headache and I’m exhausted, I washed up about 10 items earlier and had to sit down for a while after level exhausted. Everyone else here is symptom free at the moment. St Leonard’s was ok, Bexhill felt a bit apocalyptic! Very very busy at both sites. Fingers crossed for everyone waiting!

Santastealer · 21/12/2020 12:34

@TheTempest ah no that’s rubbish! Hope you feel better soon.

I’m hoping our results aren’t inconclusive. I will not be subjecting my 4 year old to a second test given that a) he very clearly has a cold and b) he is feeling fine in himself and his cough has more or less stopped.

Ohmango · 21/12/2020 12:55

@santastealer can you link me to where that is? My kids could really do with walking in the fields behind the house and only I have symptoms. We haven't taken them as didn't want to be THAT family even though we are very unlikely to see anyone.

Santastealer · 21/12/2020 13:03

@Ohmango

Full legislation here buts it’s very wordy!

Arboria · 21/12/2020 13:04

I’d be ringing them by now, regardless of what it says on the leaflet! But I am quite a proactive person!

AstridAv · 21/12/2020 13:12

@TheTempest I am in the same area as you and last week had my son tested at bexhill (results with 24hrs +) I had my test on seafront st leonards and that took just over 24hrs for +. Hopefully shouldn't take too long.

LemonDrizzles · 21/12/2020 13:31

I caved, and I called. It's been three days. They said it could take up to five days. Oddly, they emailed me a survey. Got excited (if that's the right word?) Thinking it was the result....

Frostythesnowman29 · 21/12/2020 13:40

I think I commented on this other day but last week DS’s result come through within 20 hours. Tested Tuesday am - results early hours Wednesday. I was tested on Friday am and results 11pm Saturday by email. But text didn’t come through until 6am!

Back in September DS’s result took 3-4 days.

Youngatheart00 · 21/12/2020 14:22

Result through - positive 😫

Am virtually symptomless but at least I know.

Does DH need to bother with his own test or just assume he has it? No children in household.

OP posts:
oneglassandpuzzled · 21/12/2020 14:25

I hope you stay symptomless and that it gives you some immunity for at least a period.
