Feeling utterly gutted and so sad, can’t stop crying

I just read the latest, that people won’t be allowed to travel to and from London and the South East. I haven’t seen my parents since July, they live in the south east and we live in Yorkshire, they haven’t seen their Grandson (my DS) since then either.
My existing anxiety and depression has been truly awful throughout all of this and the one thing that was getting me through was the thought of seeing them at Christmas time. They were going to travel up within the ‘allowed’ days. But now it doesn’t look like it’ll be happening, I’m more than devastated. I know there are bigger things happening in the world, but I just feel so sad.

It's sad yes. But think of those of us whose jobs rely on travelling around the country to do the work. If they ban that then my company and thousands other will go bust.

BigSisLittleSisCardboardBox · 19/12/2020 08:11

I’m sorry, where are you reading this? Sorry you’re upset.

Frostythesnowwoman · 19/12/2020 08:13

It’s so hard, offering an unmumsnetty hug. Don’t think it’s been confirmed yet if that’s any consolation Flowers

FleeceNavidadToEwe · 19/12/2020 08:15

There’s nothing concrete yet, why not wait and see if it becomes official?

Lissy23 · 19/12/2020 08:15

Does anyone know when this is due to be announced? The uncertainty is killing me.

OP posts:
sashagabadon · 19/12/2020 08:15

I don’t think that’s true. There’s never really been a ban on travel in England anyway. What are your sources? Stick to the BBC

nannynick · 19/12/2020 08:17

Could a travel ban really be enforced? Police at every junction of the M25 asking everyone where they are going is not practical.

Frostythesnowwoman · 19/12/2020 08:18

They are considering travel restrictions, according to BBC, Guardian, Telegraph, all reputable sources. Due to the new strain.
But apparently no firm decisions made (this again from the BBC). Announcement possible later I’ve heard.

OP - can you distract yourself in any way? I’m anxious too and going to try to keep busy.

Nonamesavail · 19/12/2020 08:19

I dont think they even have resources to monitor it.

yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 08:20

The Christmas window 23rd-27th when travel & visits indoors are allowed is still open.

RedRiverShore · 19/12/2020 08:20

I have seen London and Kent mentioned, where in the SE, OP

starfish4 · 19/12/2020 08:20

Flowers OP, sorry you're feeling like this. My friend hasn't seen her Mum for a year. DC now isolating, husband has to work over Xmas, so window has gone for the long drive to collect her. I think there's going to be a lot of disappointment, frustration and on the other side worry from those not comfortable with the Xmas bubble.

Xmas won't be the same, trying to hold my head up high though. We still have eachother and all our friends and family out there, still have our jobs (one of mine is sure to go soon though), can have a nice meal and food, presents, carols, but...

madcatladyforever · 19/12/2020 08:24

I haven't seen anyone since February and will be spending Christmas alone as I'm working in the NHS. I think I've gone a bit funny, having long conversations with my deaf elderly cat.

DarceyDashwood · 19/12/2020 08:27

Sorry you’re upset OP. Flowers

The faffing about, leaks and procrastination this Gvt does every time it has to make a tough decision makes everything so much worse. Clearly the numbers are such that at any other point in the year we would not be allowed to be mixing households indoors but because they don’t have the balls to stop it because they don’t want to be seen to “cancel” Christmas we are heading for disaster. Jan/Feb is going to be grim.

For what it’s worth I don’t agree with splitting the nation up for big decisions/travel bans or lockdowns. What happens in one part of the country usually follows to others

DianaT1969 · 19/12/2020 08:34

Why don't they travel up to you tomorrow OP? Do you have space to host them for a week?

Lissy23 · 19/12/2020 08:37

It’s in all major news sources - as speculation. Unfortunately this is how news seems to work these days - leak, speculation then confirmation once everyone is already extremely anxious yet resigned to terrible news Sad

See here for example

Silvercatowner · 19/12/2020 08:41

@Silvercatowner there was a guardian article and a thread on here

Well bloody link to it instead of spreading speculation.

likeamillpond · 19/12/2020 08:41

I don't think they will ban people from travelling.
Strongly advise maybe.

Frostythesnowwoman · 19/12/2020 08:43

@Silvercatowner I’ve linked to it above

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 19/12/2020 08:43

Just ramping up the fear and scaremongering. What a despicable lot the Govt and media are.

OP, just do what you need to do. They can't stop you.

Silvercatowner · 19/12/2020 08:45

Just ramping up the fear and scaremongering. What a despicable lot the Govt and media are.

And some posters just revel in the catastrophising.

Frostythesnowwoman · 19/12/2020 08:46

@forwardsbackwardsrebound I’m no fan of the government (the opposite!) but the Christmas relaxation was obviously a terrible idea - it should have been contingent on infection rates from the start. These are now rocketing and we have a more virulent strain raging in the SE, it’s not scaremongering just scientific fact unfortunately .

What is awful is the way they’ve got people’s hopes up only to have to dash them at the last minute.
