Feeling utterly gutted and so sad, can’t stop crying

I just read the latest, that people won’t be allowed to travel to and from London and the South East. I haven’t seen my parents since July, they live in the south east and we live in Yorkshire, they haven’t seen their Grandson (my DS) since then either.
My existing anxiety and depression has been truly awful throughout all of this and the one thing that was getting me through was the thought of seeing them at Christmas time. They were going to travel up within the ‘allowed’ days. But now it doesn’t look like it’ll be happening, I’m more than devastated. I know there are bigger things happening in the world, but I just feel so sad.

Paul Brand @PaulBrandITV
BREAKING: The Prime Minister will hold a press conference this afternoon alongside the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Advisor, as serious concerns grow about the new strain of Covid-19.

PM is about to speak to the cabinet first. Brace for bad news I’m afraid.

The Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty has just released this statement saying the evidence suggests that the new variant is spreading more rapidly, though there is no evidence yet that it is any more deadly or affects the efficacy of vaccines, but more research is being done.

@Silvercatowner

Yes, pp posted this link which discusses new strain and possibility of restrictions being changed over Christmas. Bit embarrassing calling people stupid when you have such poor comprehension skills, isn’t it?

Fuckssake NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED. Are people so ghoulish they actually WANT this to happen? I despair, I really do.

I normally like cat people, but you seem very angry.

People aren’t being “ghoulish” or “wanting this to happen”. They are airing their feelings about what is being discussed in the news at the moment (looks like there may be a press conference later today).

Go stroke your cat, it might bring your stress levels down a bit.

ah lovely, I know it is really difficult. the uncertainty being the worst. once you know something you can adjust to it and make the best of whatever it is. felt the same with not letting the children go back to school in January. waiting to hear if ds will be allowed due to disability.

CheltenhamLady · 19/12/2020 13:43

I suspect they will try to curtail travel, but whether people will comply at this late stage is an unknown.

What time is the press conference?

Bagamoyo1 · 19/12/2020 13:48

@madcatladyforever

I haven't seen anyone since February and will be spending Christmas alone as I'm working in the NHS. I think I've gone a bit funny, having long conversations with my deaf elderly cat.
Why haven’t you seen anyone since February?

@RedToothBrush - you say the OP's parents should't make one return car journey, because Covid doesn't know they are parents, or that it's Christmas. If you had a child at university, I take it you'd accept them travelling home for a Christmas break?
Lots of travel goes on despite Covid. Let's not pretend it doesn't. We all assumed MPs were following the rules, and working remotely, until scandals are uncovered, such as the Scottish MP who popped down to London whilst waiting for results of a test.
Thousands of HGV and van drivers are travelling long distances up and down the country to keep stores stocked with clothes and food on supermarket shelves. They don't do it once, like the OP's parents are planning to do, they do it for every day.
I'm not a Covid rule breaker, but it currently isn't illegal for the OP's parents to drive to her home. She seems to be having a MH crisis, because she keeps posting here about rules and is struggling to action anything. Caught up in the fear of Covid.

I will await the press conference at 4pm.

It sounds a lot like it will be illegal shortly.

Miamarshmallows · 19/12/2020 15:58

Looks like the South East and London will have Christmas cancelled. Absolutely heartbroken. Also don't see how this can be policed in practice as well as how uni kids are meant to get back to university, people travelling for business etc. An absolute shitshow.

CheltenhamLady · 19/12/2020 16:35

Not great news for the South. Tier 4.

Complete and utter mismanagement.

Complete and utter mismanagement.

Not all of the south.
Miamarshmallows · 19/12/2020 17:43

I'm confused. Can we still meet for Christmas day with family but not the rest of the 5 days?

badpuma · 19/12/2020 17:45

It's up to three households on Christmas Day only in tiers 1-3. I don't think tier 4 can meet anyone.
