How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

None

Xmasfairy86 · 16/12/2020 22:17

None - been lucky. year 7 and year 4. Other classes/bubbles/years have had time out though.

ShanghaiDiva · 16/12/2020 22:18

None.
Dd’s Year had to self isolate, but all learning and lessons continued online. Her school has had two cases this term.

Crumpetycrump · 16/12/2020 22:18

DD has had 2 periods of self isolation but one was over half term. So she’s missed 3 weeks although had online learning via teams etc for most lessons - Year 12.

MrsBlondie · 16/12/2020 22:18

None. One in year 3 and one in year 10.
Feel lucky but they both need school.
Have a bad feeling next term might not be so good.

Sewsosew · 16/12/2020 22:18

None

Chimeraforce · 16/12/2020 22:19

4 weeks since Sept.
Y9 didn't start until 17 sept
Then 2 weeks si
Then finished 1 week 1 day early for Christmas due to Insufficient teachers in the building. The other years are still attending. Dreadful.

SexQuestions · 16/12/2020 22:19

None - dc in yr4 and reception

SallyCinnamonYoureMyWorld · 16/12/2020 22:20

Dd has had two days off to be tested for covid, which came back negative. Then two weeks isolation because someone in her class had covid. Now isolating again as we are waiting for her brother's covid test to come back. If it's positive, we will be isolating for 10 days. If negative then not obviously.

Dadnotamum72 · 16/12/2020 22:20

None- yr5/9/10/ college. Still had the congratulation on 100% letter for dd which suprised me in the current circumstances.

jerometheturnipking · 16/12/2020 22:21

None for either primary aged DC.

lljkk · 16/12/2020 22:21

None, yr8, yr12, uni, other vocational training.
They haven't mentioned anyone they know being off, either.

Monkeytapper · 16/12/2020 22:22

None fortunately, year 6 & year 8

HairyFloppins · 16/12/2020 22:22

The last two weeks of term as her dad got it from work.

WyfOfBathe · 16/12/2020 22:22

my DC (primary and nursery) haven’t missed any. As far as I’m aware, there has only been one case in DD’s school, and it was a completely different year group

DH is a secondary school teacher and has had one period of isolation from being a close contact

RosesforMama · 16/12/2020 22:23

I have 4 kids in 4 different settings: a college, s sixth form college, a secondary and a primary. Miraculously we have not had any isolations. There have been plenty in the settings but none in their bubbles. Not all friends been so lucky - one friend's year 11 DC just starting 3rd isolation period this evening.

myhobbyisouting · 16/12/2020 22:23

1 day before half term and this week (through my choice to isolate prior to Christmas meeting with family)

TheVanguardSix · 16/12/2020 22:23

My eldest is on a gap year.
My younger two are still in primary (year 6 and year 2).
Both of my younger ones had a sore throat the second week of September. Stayed home about 3-4 days. Not covid. Both have been at school since the second week of September without any disruption.
We've had our first case of covid (a child in year 4) confirmed today. School's out tomorrow.
I think our school has done amazingly well. We're in Hammersmith, London.

Echobelly · 16/12/2020 22:23

There was 1 day right at start of term when DS was off with temp (on a Friday) and I had to have him tested, though TBH I would have kept him off school under normal circumstances simply because he was obviously not well, so I don't really count that!

2 weeks, some of the kids I teach have missed 6. Their bubble keeps getting hit

EndoplasmicReticulum · 16/12/2020 22:25

Each had four days waiting for test results.
Year 11 also just had 2 weeks isolation.

Echobelly · 16/12/2020 22:25

I'm also in London. It does look as though there are far fewer cases in primary - the effect on DD's secondary is much more pronounced.

I have heard 2nd hand reports of 'My friends' kid has missed more school than they've had', but I do wonder if they're exaggerations.

None (nursery not school)

FaintlyMacabre · 16/12/2020 22:27

All 3 had 2 days while waiting for a test result near the beginning of term- they all developed a hacking cough over the first weekend back. Other than that none at all. Their primary school got through the term with no bubble closures at all, the secondary had some bubbles close but not DS1s thank goodness.

AIMD · 16/12/2020 22:28

1 1/2 weeks before half term when the whole school was closed.

However covid diagnosis at the school has increased last couple of weeks with kids in multiple years getting positive.

I’m anticipating some sort of January lockdown and wouldn’t be surprised if it included a late school opening after the half term.
