How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

No burst bubbles. A day or so waiting for their own test results

cliffdiver · 17/12/2020 06:25

DD1 3 days this week (positive Covid in bubble)

DD2 3 weeks since September (x2 positive Covid in bubble)

I'm a teacher, my bubble has managed to stay open.

Sittinbythetrees · 17/12/2020 06:25

1 day waiting for own test results. Yr 6 and 8.

Plsv87 · 17/12/2020 06:31

None. She missed 2 days due to a stomach bug, but that's it.

Havenly · 17/12/2020 06:38

2 days ill plus 6 days self isolating in the first half term. Ten days self isolating in the 2nd half term.

There has been cases in their schools but not in their bubble/close contact.

megletthesecond · 17/12/2020 06:43

2 DC's in Hampshire secondaries.

4 days between them. I really don't know how we've been so lucky. DD was a bit under the weather so they were both off while we waited for a test result.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 17/12/2020 06:45

Forgot all the missed lessons for my year 12.

musicinspring1 · 17/12/2020 06:45

Year 1 - bubble closure so SI for 14 days (1 positive case in class)
Year 6 and 4 - none - am surprised !

PolarnOPirate · 17/12/2020 06:46

None but they're 5 and 3 (year 1 and 2 separate nurseries as he switched at start of dec)

munchbunch12 · 17/12/2020 06:50

So far it's DS (Y8) 1 week due to staff shortages. DD (Y1) 2 weeks due to isolation as a contact.

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 17/12/2020 06:53

My son has been off school since March due to shielding, don't even get me started on his school, they had to provide remote education for him and have done nothing for him. I have done his schooling with him.

Diddlysquatty · 17/12/2020 06:54

2 days each (year 1, 5, 8) for isolating
Plus another day each for being ill with a cold

LegoPandemic · 17/12/2020 06:54

None feel pretty lucky we’ve made it until Christmas without being affected at all , a whole full term done with no problems which was more than I was anticipating

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 17/12/2020 06:58

1 week when we actually had COVID. The 2nd week was half term. We've been lucky, they've done a really great job at trying to prevent transmission in our school. kids having a very Scandi model of education this term - lots of outdoor activities and warm layers.

Passthecake30 · 17/12/2020 06:59

Yr 6 - none
Yr 8 - the year group homeschooled for the first week, while the school got the rest of the years used to the one way system etc. No Covid in that year (yet)

TheAirbender · 17/12/2020 07:03

None, it’s an all through nursery to Y13 school and there’s been no cases in their school. We live in Dubai where face masks are compulsory for Year 2 and up and bubbles are very small.

FrancesHaHa · 17/12/2020 07:05

2 periods of self isolation here (primary). One 14 days and one 10 days. All of the years in the school have been off except one at least once, a couple of years have been off twice - London

MarshaBradyo · 17/12/2020 07:07

Zero due to Covid
1 Dc had cold or something for a few days

Incredibly lucky - London
