How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

DC1 - 2 * 2 weeks self isolating due to cases in school - YR13
DC2 - none YR11

PropertyHelp · 16/12/2020 23:00

None. Y9 and Y8. They are in a super selective school so massive catchment area and bus/train transport for many. Tier 2 area.

I'm thankful the schools have stay yes open.

HazeyJaneII · 16/12/2020 23:01

Between Sept and half term, ds missed 15 days (symptoms and case in bubble). Since half term he hadn't been in.

Dds haven't missed any.

humtar · 16/12/2020 23:02

London primary DC is on his 3rd consecutive week, 2 weeks for a positive case in bubble, as soon as that finished we had a positive case in our house so off until the end of term. It'll be a 5 week stretch once you include the Xmas hols. Really hope they don't delay the start of the new term.

middleager · 16/12/2020 23:06

41 days, 6 isolations for one y10 (and a dose of Covid) since Sept.

20 days, 3 isolations for the other Y10 (different secondary) since Sept.

West Mids.

None so far, until today when my son woke up with a sore throat and a runny nose and we decided to keep them both off for the rest of the week.

yawnsvillex · 16/12/2020 23:10

None. Year 2.

AlwaysLatte · 16/12/2020 23:10

Oh I forgot - Ds12 woke up with a bit of a cough one morning and also had 3 days off while we waited for a test 3 months ago - negative, luckily!

middleager · 16/12/2020 23:11

That's 41 school days, 10 weeks of being confined to the home. I haven't heard of such a high figure and my DS has been so unlucky. 10%.of the form have it and both secondaries have mass cases since September.
My one DS has not managed a run of more than 10 school days.
We've also had two times where he's been sent back for a day each time.

BiscuitsUnited · 16/12/2020 23:11

Absolutely none.

Dc1 (primary) school had 1 positive test in another year group so that year was closed for 2 weeks.

DC2 (huge secondary) had 6 or7 positive tests but not in his year and no year group bubbles were closed, just close contacts told to isolate.

We are N West so was expecting more positive tests tbh.

10 WEEKS!

Wow

Babyroobs · 16/12/2020 23:13

DD aged 15 and in year 11 had to isolate for two weeks as one of her football team mates tested positive, then was back at school for 3 days then had to isolate again as someone in her bubble tested positive, so a month altogether. very worrying with GCSE's looming.

2magpies1pigeon · 16/12/2020 23:15

Year 11 - none.
University - 14 days self isolation due to a contact.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/12/2020 23:17

None. One in Primary, one is Secondary. Cases in both schools but mine haven't had to isolate.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 16/12/2020 23:18

Ds1 y11 - 2 weeks
Ds2 y8 - 4 weeks (and 2 days where he was actually ill)
Dd - first year at uni, 10 days with covid, 2 weeks isolating for a housemate, and 2 weeks where they all got sent home early

delilahbucket · 16/12/2020 23:18

7 days. 2 days off with a cold that I would never normally keep him off with, and then 5 days isolation with the other days in half term 🙄

Porcupineinwaiting · 16/12/2020 23:19

Ds1 5 days
Ds2 17 days

Plus loads of lessons when their teachers have been off sick/self isolating.

namechangetheworld · 16/12/2020 23:20

None at all - 5 year old is at a small village primary where there have been no cases at all.

Bythesea315 · 16/12/2020 23:21

6 weeks 😢 been really unlucky

MaddieElla · 16/12/2020 23:23

None. Year 13 and 9 secondary school.

Knackeredmommy · 16/12/2020 23:23

My daughter 2 weeks, she had it. My son in his GCSE year, 4 weeks.

WhoseThatGirl · 16/12/2020 23:25

DS 3 weeks
DD 2 weeks and an extra 3 days when they sent her home for feeling lightheaded and despite the fact she was fine by the time I picked her up, she’s has already had Covid and she had non of the symbols, I wasn’t allowed to send her back for 3 days?!
It’s better than the schools being closed though.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 16/12/2020 23:25

Primary school child two weeks isolating because teacher got covid. Now 3 extra days as school is closed.

Secondary child three weeks now because the first sent his whole year group home. Only about 80 were told they needed to isolate. My son didn't have close contact but no school anyway. Then they shut the school totally a week later.

My friends daughter is year 13 and had to isolate 3 times then they closed the school two weeks ago. So 8 weeks missed since September. This is a poor girls doing A levels.

WhoseThatGirl · 16/12/2020 23:27

DD missed out on more eduction too as her teacher had it and was off for weeks being very ill.

PandemicPalava · 16/12/2020 23:28

1 week isolating (plus half term)
2 weeks isolating ended Friday and then the school closed so all in all 4 weeks
