How much school have your kids missed due to COVID this term?

Either being ill, schools having to shut or isolating as a contact?

I think we've been quite lucky. Both kids missed 2 days before half term as I was waiting for a test result (negative luckily), DD (in Y8) recently had a contact and was off for a bit but luckily the contact happened just before two days of planned school closure (nothing to do with COVID) so she only missed 7 days of school.

I have friends whose kids have been in and out loads and missed more school than they've had.

DD's secondary is small and split over two sites, so it was doing OK, but things really ramped up suddenly after half term and they had to move around curriculum because of teachers being off.

DS's primary seems to have not been affected much - a few kids being off waiting for test results (all negative).

I never believed in Sept that schools would make it to half term let alone Christmas without all shutting. I have kept back some days of holiday I can carry over as I fully expect some kind of shutdown or extended holiday Jan/Feb.

@humtar

London primary DC is on his 3rd consecutive week, 2 weeks for a positive case in bubble, as soon as that finished we had a positive case in our house so off until the end of term. It'll be a 5 week stretch once you include the Xmas hols. Really hope they don't delay the start of the new term.
Had a email from our secondary already murmuring that they are working on a strategy for what will happen in January.

I think my teenager's school are definitely not back the normal first week in January by the careful wording she used. She definitely will fight to keep the school shut.

My kid is basically stuffed no matter what the government want. Son has been three weeks already with no school, he hasn't had covid or been a contact asked to isolate. They just sent his year group home and then later shut the whole school.

None, DCs are Y4 and Y7. Years 5, 8, 10, 12 and 13 have all had two week isolations each (Y8 x 2). 5 student cases since September in the Secondary School, one teacher in the primary. Wiltshire. Cases pretty low in the county now.

CazM2012 · 16/12/2020 23:39

DD1 - 2 weeks. DD2 - 2 weeks. DS - 3/4 days. DD3 - 2.5 weeks. All isolating, or unable to get them there due to siblings isolating or nursery closure for youngest, these were over 6 different weeks so almost 50% of the term Sad

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 16/12/2020 23:41

The last 3 days of term as the council have shut all primary schools. None apart from that.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 17/12/2020 00:02

None for own child.

A third of kids and staff were off at one point 3 weeks ago in the school I work at.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/12/2020 00:10

Two DDs in sixth form.

Schummakker · 17/12/2020 00:14

Four weeks.

Babyiwantabump · 17/12/2020 00:16

None - reception, year 2 and year 11.

frustrationcentral · 17/12/2020 00:22

DS1 - 2 weeks off college due to being a contact

DS2 - 1 day off school due to DS1 being off and wanting to check the situation for DS2.

Both schools/college have had very few cases

YerAWizardHarry · 17/12/2020 00:23

None. I'm a student teacher and my placement class missed 7.5 days.

AlexaShutUp · 17/12/2020 00:47
  1. Whole year group was told to stay at home for one day while they decided who had been in close contact with confirmed case, but dd was allowed back to school after that.
Shinyletsbebadguys · 17/12/2020 00:58

We have been really lucky with 1 day. Granted it was the first bloody day of term which wasn't great for ds1 but ds2 had had a temp so we needed to get a test. Tested negative and after advice from 119 and school agreement went on day 2.

I am surprised to be fair. Although probably shouldn't speak too soon as they still go in tommorrow but it's the last day and all Currently seems well .

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 17/12/2020 03:32

DD y10 none, DSy9 2 isolations so far.

PhilCornwall1 · 17/12/2020 04:59

None for my youngest, school has been covid free.

Eldest is at college, I think he said there were a few cases, but he's so laid back about everything it could have been half the college infected and we'd never know.

CarlottaValdez · 17/12/2020 06:04

None at my London primary, we’ve been very lucky.

Useruseruserusee · 17/12/2020 06:06

2 days isolating waiting for DHs test result.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 17/12/2020 06:07

Six weeks each. Isolating as a contact mostly, as well as waiting for test results once.

TimeQuest01 · 17/12/2020 06:09

None (primary)

Brown76 · 17/12/2020 06:10

4 weeks, primary in Tier 3.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 17/12/2020 06:15

In the north here, 2 in secondary school - 1 missed 4 weeks (2 x family positives) and the other missed 5 weeks (above plus she was a close contact, 1 week was half term.)

MrsJonesAndMe · 17/12/2020 06:17

Primary - none
Secondary - a week with online provision.

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/12/2020 06:17

Two weeks right at the start due to the only case in the school this term which was ‘inconclusive’

louisejxxx · 17/12/2020 06:18

None - year 3 and year 6

HmmSureJan · 17/12/2020 06:19

Four days. She and her classmates were informed and told to isolate due to a case in her form on the day we broke up for half term. So she had half term off and then four days the week after, back in on the Friday morning. Think we've been quite lucky.
