Thanks for the new thread. Hopefully we can start filling it with good Oxford vaccine news

JemimaPyjamas · 14/12/2020 14:05

Place marking! I did also write a post on the last thread but it didn’t load. Bugger! It was about the anti-vaccine rubbish I was being ‘told’ so nothing important!

sashagabadon · 14/12/2020 14:07

Just heard nice radio interview with a gp (in north somewhere). Anyway he’s been ringing around to get people in and says everyone is very excited, some burst into tears!
So sounds positive and people will come forward pretty easily when it’s their turn Smile

I've just had a doorstep conversation with an older lady from our village who was doubtful about getting the vaccine (She'd heard a report it would give her dementia - new one on me) but after our conversation she said she was reassured. I need a job as a "Vaccine persuader"!

Loopyloui · 14/12/2020 14:25

You don't need to persuade me Smile

feelingverylazytoday · 14/12/2020 14:29

Thanks for starting the new thread, OP.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2020 14:29

Thanks Fuzzy, good to keep it going

bloodpressureboiling · 14/12/2020 14:39

Thank you for starting the new thread. Positivity very much required. I had my first vaccine last Wednesday. There is some research to suggest that 7 days after the first vaccine, you will start to get some immunity. ( obviously will need to get second dose to be certain) I feel great, and as each day passes, more reassured. Fingers crossed that the vaccines will be rolled out quickly and efficiently and given to those most in need.

Jrobhatch29 · 14/12/2020 14:45

Thanks for the new thread Smile

Plibber · 14/12/2020 14:50

Thank you for the new thread, @FuzzyPuffling These threads are a life saver - I'm mostly steering clear of the rest of MN at the moment!

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 14/12/2020 14:52

I AM READY FOR AN OXFORD ANNOUNCEMENT NOW PLEASE Grin

chri55ie · 14/12/2020 14:54

Please let it be this week!!!!

tobee · 14/12/2020 14:56

Just had my zoom art class. Nurse working in big London teaching hospital with added health condition in my class has had the vaccine! First person I know in rl! She said no side effects for her.

Hoping my elderly parents (in 80s and quite frail) will hear soon!

2020CanDoOne · 14/12/2020 14:57

Thanks for the new thread - only look at this one now and avoid the rest of MN x

GrumpySausage · 14/12/2020 14:59

Thank you for the new thread. This thread is my calm in the storm. Thank you for all your contributions.

chri55ie · 14/12/2020 14:59

The only place I look at too.,,I ventured onto the other threads last night and that was a big mistake!

FuzzyPuffling · 14/12/2020 15:01

I must confess I am getting impatient to gave a vaccine. DH is Cat 4 and I'm Cat 6 so it will be ages yet, but we've been avoiding people for almost 10 months and I can't wait to feel confident and get out of the house!!
Lovely to hear positive vaccine stories though.

Scotland update today is that 18,000 people here have had their first vaccine so far, and vaccinations in care homes have started today.

My Dh and I are in a very similar situation! Hoping the cat 4s will be up soon in the new year!

yearinyearout · 14/12/2020 15:14

I know of several over 80's getting their vaccinations this week. I did wonder whether they should be giving vaccines to younger people with health problems though (my dm is in seventies with health problems) I expect that would be too complicated maybe?

IcedPurple · 14/12/2020 15:27

Good for you. I suspect that many of the people telling pollsters they will refuse to take a vaccine may feel differently a few weeks or months down the line when they've seen thousands have it with no ill effects. This will be especially true if businesses or airlines make vaccination a requirement. I could be wrong but I don't think 'anti-vaxxers' will be all that many.
FuzzyPuffling · 14/12/2020 15:47

My elderly friend was concerned because she is "Allergic to oranges"...when I dug a bit deeper she feels a bit ill after citrus fruit, has a flu jab every year and didn't know what an epipen is. I felt fairly sure in reassuring her that she'd be ok.

Especially when I said that the two people who'd had a reaction were both ok now! She lives with her daughter and son in law, both very educated people; one in a health related profession. Why aren't her family helping her to separate facts from fiction?

Anyway, that's not good news so I'll pipe down now!!

JemimaPyjamas · 14/12/2020 15:52

@IcedPurple I hope you are right. The woman I had the argument with (that I talked about on the other thread) kept repeating that it's only a 'pretend choice' because if you don't have it you can't fly etc etc so they are making it 'mandatory through the back door.' This, while paranoid nonsense, has slightly more logic to it than some of the other rubbish she was spouting but I hope the more gullible don't listen to this kind of thing too much.

OrangeBananaFish · 14/12/2020 16:12

Thank you for the new thread.

Yes I am just posting to get it to TIO, but do want to say thanks too. I've been very low recently so need this.

TeaInTheGarden · 14/12/2020 16:55

Thanks for the new thread. Everything crossed this will be the tread we can celebrate oxford approval and roll out 🤞🏻🤞🏻
