My local surgery can rattle through all the flu jabs in two days...one day for over 65s, one day for under 65s.

I know the 15 minute "make sure there's no reaction" time will slow things up a bit, but I choose to believe that, as long as there is lots of vaccine available, HCPs are kind of practiced at this and will gallop through the population at speed! Fingers are of course, crossed!

I would love it if the Queen had the vaccine during her Xmas day speech. And nobody could accuse her of jumping the queue.

A great thread, lovely to see some positivity on MN for once.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 16/12/2020 17:46

They seem to be doing pretty well despite the difficulties though don’t they?
Am I right in thinking once the storage and distribution issues are sorted actually getting it into people’s arms is no harder than for flu vaccine?

FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 17:46

Which is exactly what ChineseChicken said, but her post didn't appear until I had written mine.

Not copying, honestly, Miss!

Great minds think alike etc, FuzzyPuffling!

TheChineseChicken · 16/12/2020 18:09

Well I did say that but it was an assumption - I don’t really know!

Fizbosshoes · 16/12/2020 18:13

On a more pessimistic thread someone said it would take 20 years to vaccinate everyone Confused

That’s really tickled me
FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 19:16

I read the "20 years" post too. WTF!!!!

thank you for good luck wishes guys.

We're going to start running together tomorrow. DP has actually made a firm promise, so this is good news in our household. We'll be one of those intolerable couples. I think it will make the winter more bearable though and I am a bit too scared to run on my own at the moment. I'd love to run with him twice a week.

Also, I can't wait for everyone to be vaccinated, or enough people that we can have our lives back as they were.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 19:26

"The Intolerable Runners"!! Good luck and mind your knees!

Thank you, We will be intolerable and fit and it will be great, but for the first few months we'll be those really unfit weird people who keep slipping on the ice.

20 years!!! Grin
FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 20:06

When DH was so ill with cancer I had to learn to inject him. I had one supervised go (under the watchful eye of a nurse) then "Off you go home and get on with it"

I could do vaccinations! (it was quite easy!) I wouldn't take 20 years, promise.

OP posts:
chri55ie · 16/12/2020 20:12

Yes me too...I had to inject myself whilst pregnant and I consider myself a dab hand at it! So much so I have volunteered to help though have no professional medical experience (apart from on myself!).

Sure I could do it quicker than 20 years on my own!

FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 20:54

Chri55ie, your country needs you!

OP posts:
tootyfruitypickle · 16/12/2020 21:00

I’ve just remembered that I had to inject myself during a treatment I had too! Grab a load of stomach and stick the needle in! Had completely forgotten about it ! You’re right , the medical bit is being around for any reaction surely?

chri55ie · 16/12/2020 21:09

I’m still waiting to hear....think it was a ‘ don’t call us we’ll call you’ situation!

FuzzyPuffling · 16/12/2020 21:13

At this rate they will clock on to the fact that half the country can do vaccinations and just pop them in the post! Speedy!

Defenbaker · 16/12/2020 21:45

Such brilliant news that the Oxford vaccine approval might happen on 22nd... what a great Christmas present! Smile It seems to be much easier to handle than the others, as it doesn't have the same storage requirements. The scientists have come up trumps this year, and possibly have learned all sorts of things during the research process that may be useful in treating other diseases, too. Maybe some of the scientists might receive New Year Honours, along with some of the retired medics who returned to the NHS to help, at great risk to their own health. (I wouldn't have been so brave.)

Blerg · 16/12/2020 22:04

Ooooh where did you see that @Defenbaker?

tobee · 16/12/2020 22:35

Sorry this is from The Sun via Apple News re British army disinfectant spray that kills Covid in 60 seconds:-
