What it says. Children have already been impacted by prolonged school closures, individual isolation, inadequate teaching, isolation from peers and this will have impacted on their education, psychological and social development and mental and physical health. It is concerning for the majority of parents that there is a push for schools to close.

Please no derailment. This is an important issue that will affect a whole generation. There are numerous threads here about enforcing restrictions and limiting access to schools so please discuss concerns about these issues elsewhere.

@DianeChambers - that’s a random segment of a quote if ever I saw one. Who do you think you are addressing it to? And of course there isn’t enough cleaning going on in schools - cleaning costs money they don’t have. As does forcing open windows that have been sealed for years. As does providing masks for children who don’t turn up with their own. As does staff absence. As do all safety measures.

Bollss · 02/12/2020 22:29

@TaxTheRatFarms

Well yes, given that they haven’t ever caged children during the whole course of the pandemic?

Your hyperbole is slipping dangerously close to xenophobia there. What’s the point? Do you have to lie or exaggerate to get people on your “side”?

Xenophobia? Grow up.

I don't have "a side"
TaxTheRatFarms · 02/12/2020 22:53

I’m already grown up thanks. You can tell, as I don’t describe safety measure as “shoving” kids behind a screen, or as “caging” children. What is the point of all the exaggeration? It’s ridiculous.

I wouldn't "place" children behind plastic screens that resemble cages, either. And exaggeration?? You accused me of xenophobia which was a pretty big exaggeration, wasnt it?

Why can't you just accept that some of us don't agree with treating children like that?

herecomesthsun · 03/12/2020 07:22

but they don't look like cages. Cages have 4 sides, not one.

They didn't have 1 side Hmm

In my opinion, and remember, I'm allowed one whether you like it or not, they resemble cages.

herecomesthsun · 03/12/2020 07:28

It is a fact that if a cage is to be effective, it would need to be enclosed all around (and probably t the top as well) and these screens are not enclosed all around?

So they don't much resemble cages therefore, except in your imagination, which you are of course entitled to have.

Why can you not accept my view?

I don't like it, in my opinion they resemble cages. They don't exactly say "freedom" do they. I wouldn't want to spend all day like that so I wouldn't do it to my child.

You like it, fine, your choice but stop telling me I'm wrong because you don't agree.

Judging by OP’s other threads she doesn’t want students to have to isolate if they’ve been in contact, only if they’re positive plus she doesn’t think they should be made to wear masks. So, she’s not after safe schools, she just wants them open come he’ll and high water😡

Well, that’s not what she’ll get then, is it, as there will be so many people getting ill that schools will be closing altogether due to lack of staff.

Exactly!! Unfortunately this OP has shown in many other threads that she lacks ANY understanding of the wider picture.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 03/12/2020 08:02

Wish my dd2 school had sent the entire year home when it had its first case of COVID, she might not have got it (along with several others and their families) meaning my dd1 also now has to isolate and miss school.

What a twatty thread. Is there anyone who doesn’t want schools to be open and safe?

LadyPenelope68 · 03/12/2020 08:07

@TrustTheGeneGenie
the reason a lot of people want that is so they can work, and pay their bills and feed their children
Wondered how long it would be before you spouted this again. What you really want is free childcare and did the well-being of adults and children in school. Nice.

The original poster! She just wants them open, not bothered about safe!

Sorry, what? I don't need free childcare, I can work from home or alternatively pay for ft childcare like I was doing pre September.

A lot of people aren't as privileged as me and need their kids in school to work. Don't pretend poor people don't exist. And if you don't think schools childcare, tell the government because they think it is and make you job search when your child goes to school.

The ignorance here is astounding. Angry

@TrustTheGeneGenie

Definitions of words do have commonly agreed meanings.

----------------------

Cambridge Dictionary:

cage
noun [ C ]
UK /keɪdʒ/ US /keɪdʒ/

B1
a space surrounded on all sides by bars or wire, in which animals or birds are kept

----------------------

So

  • not surrounded on all sides
  • not bars or wire

ergo not a cage (except in your individual imaginative interpretation to which you are of course entitled)

herecomesthsun · 03/12/2020 08:20

People who need kids in school in order to work, they need the schools to be safe, otherwise the schools will shut.

Safe meaning somewhere where good covid mitigation is in place. Masks. Ventilation. and so on.

Bore off. Stop dictating that people can't have opinions Xmas Biscuit

lol.

When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less. ' 'The question is,' said Alice, 'whether you can make words mean so many different things. '

Yes, the ignorance of those with the same view as you is astounding. You’ve no idea how schools work and what staff are trying to do to make them safe all while still wanting them open.

Yes, I do. What's that got to go with pretending poor people don't exist and accusing me of needing school for childcare, wrongly?

Oh wait! Nothing! You've realised you're wrong and tried to throw that at me instead.

borntobequiet · 03/12/2020 09:56
