How many times has your family isolated

A lady on another thread said they have been isolating on and off since September, as childrens bubble at school kept having cases. I wonder is this normal? My family and I haven’t had to isolate at all yet, which I know could happen at any time. How many times have you had to self isolate since September and what area are you in?

Once in March due to one child having a cough. Didn’t test and then lockdown started anyway.

Once for a few days in September due to same child having a terrible cough. Got negative test so it was less than a week.

Essexgirlupnorth · 29/11/2020 09:27

Manchester Tier 3 one in September woke with a cough got a negative result.
Child is at primary her bubble hasn't had to isolate yet but year 6 has twice, plus year 3, nursery and reception once.
Work for NHS and now we have been given lateral flow test to test ourselves twice a week.

None. Surrey.

Interesting that respondents are mostly none, but those that have, have been multiple times, with multiple tests, and mostly negative. I wonder whether a lot of this is driven by overly cautious nurseries and schools.

Yes, we have had one incident where I think the school was on high alert, as they had a positive case the week before. It was clear to me that dd didn't have any symptoms, but since kids can be asymptomatic, we obviously went and had her tested. School claimed she had a temperature but we took it as soon as she got home, about 20 mins after they called, and it was 37, so normal. I'm sure they weren't lying or anything, but the test was negative in the end. I guess this will happen from time to time. Just how it is.

None, 2 kids In senior school one at college, one a teacher.

wonkylegs · 29/11/2020 10:22

We had a short isolation twice whilst waiting for test results (DH a dr so being extra careful but negative each time)
Each child has had a separate 2 week isolation - primary school one whole year off, secondary just those within 1.5m of the positive kid & DS sat next to him.
Primary school one was harder to manage, secondary one was easy as they have finally sorted the tech out and he just had to long on and sign in and do his lessons to timetable as if he was at school.

letsmakethetea · 29/11/2020 10:23

None of us have had to isolate or have a test.

Miseryl · 29/11/2020 13:21

Not once which is surprising. Two of us are key workers who worked onsite throughout lockdown. The other two in our household are school kids, the youngest attended nursery throughout lockdown as a keyworker kid. We live in a tier 3 area as well. We have been incredibly lucky.

elliejjtiny · 29/11/2020 13:24

12 year old ds once, the rest of us none. South west

Petitmum · 29/11/2020 13:26

South West Wales

All isolated for a few days while waiting for my test result. (negative, I had sinusitis)
DD has been sent home from school twice (year 11) 3 days first time, four days second time.
DS had to isolate for 10 days including half term due to cases in his class.
DD was tested due to symptoms and we isolated for 24 hrs (neg result was back quickly)

Petitmum · 29/11/2020 13:29

DD year 11 was able to go back after a few days each time as Track and Trace / Public health were able to identify close contacts.

DS school had 5 cases last week and DDs school have had multiple cases too, I know of a few teachers who have tested positive.

wonkylegs · 29/11/2020 16:54

@Baaaahhhhh I'm surprised we've actually not had more times of SI we know lots of positive cases, we're in the NE and DHs hospital has had big outbreaks with lots of staff and their whole family's affected especially in his department. We've had a lot of poorly friends.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/11/2020 18:02

None yet.
Two DCs at a small primary school. Not in the two classes that isolated around half term.
DH WFH
I'm a SAHM.
The majority of our social contact has been outside since March, family is at a distance.
I shop late in the evening when it's quiet.

We spend very little time in an environment of significant risk of transmission.

Olivia333 · 29/11/2020 18:14

DD 11 once
DD 9 once
DS 1 once
All isolating due to cases in their schools/nursery

CarlottaValdez · 29/11/2020 18:19

1.5 days while we waited for DH test result which was negative.

coastergirl · 29/11/2020 18:25

Text received yesterday saying my 5yo has to isolate for almost 2 weeks. This is our fifth time, I'm so fed up. I work in a school and have had two periods of isolation from colleagues testing positive. 5yo has had to isolate twice due to school staff testing positive. 1yo has had to isolate once due to nursery staff testing positive. I'm a single mum and it all falls to me when they are off. I've been back at work for two days this time, now off for another two weeks. I know it's necessary, but I'm struggling. Work is what keeps me sane.

coastergirl · 29/11/2020 18:25

Sorry forgot to add, in the north west.

LadyCatStark · 29/11/2020 18:27

None. North West with low cases but tier 3. DH have been WFH throughout and DS has been at secondary school since September.

Lovelydovey · 29/11/2020 18:30

One. In London. Both DH and I have been working from home for the past 9 months and both DC went back to primary school in September. But DC2 is currently isolating after a positive case in his class. But I know some of the local secondary schools have had it much worse.

NaughtipussMaximus · 29/11/2020 18:30

We haven’t done yet. Well, I suppose we did for a day - DS started with a cough one afternoon in the summer, we took him for a test first thing the next morning, got the results the following morning (negative).

Haven’t had a case as his school yet, so no bubbles have burst. We live in an area with comparatively low cases though still tier 2 post lockdown.

PlateTectonics · 29/11/2020 18:32

I'm in Hertfordshire and have two DC in secondary school and one in primary school. One of the secondary age DC has had to isolate once.

PolarnOPirate · 29/11/2020 18:32

None, Surrey, one child in nursery with no cases, 1 child in 2-form entry primary with no cases too. Other local primary is only an infants and has had a few cases, think our school has done an amazing job.

Angel2702 · 29/11/2020 18:37

None yet but can’t see it lasting. From having maybe five cases since September and only close contacts sent home the kid’s high school has 16 new cases with 9 still awaiting results. Whole of year 11 and 9 isolating and we will be told which students from other year groups will be sent home to isolate tomorrow.

Think the school wanted to switch to online learning as multiple year groups affected but weren’t able to.

m0therofdragons · 29/11/2020 18:37

Three times - May when dh had pleurisy, end August as dd2 had temp, September as dd1&3 had high temp and cough. Only 24 hours each time as all got negatives really quickly.

multivac · 29/11/2020 18:40

Not once yet. The boys' school hasn't had to send any students home; three +ve cases so far, all support staff with no close pupil contacts. I'm WFH and MrM can't work at the moment (live music industry). South East.
