How many times has your family isolated

A lady on another thread said they have been isolating on and off since September, as childrens bubble at school kept having cases. I wonder is this normal? My family and I haven’t had to isolate at all yet, which I know could happen at any time. How many times have you had to self isolate since September and what area are you in?

None. East of Scotland. 2 school age children and I work in early years with 30 kids.

Shitfuckoh · 28/11/2020 18:39

3 year old needed to isolate first.
Upper Primary school childs school closed for the full week before half term.

Then the upper primary school child needed to isolate and his school have burst bubbles all over the place. we're in to the last couple of days now but he still won't be returning to school yet.

DS2s class haven't had to, yet.

North East.

None. Greater Mcr. Tier 3

WankPuffins · 28/11/2020 18:44

Zero.

Currently 3rd highest rates in the country.

One at primary, one at secondary. Very surprised.

Possums4evr · 28/11/2020 18:46

Three times, always due to a symptom in one of us though not close contacts

FrightClub · 28/11/2020 18:50

None, rural West Mids. Only one person we know locally has tested positive since March.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 28/11/2020 18:52

Had to isolate for the full 14 days once due to positive case in class.
Taken 4 tests since March and had to isolate until received negative result and felt well enough each time.

MrsHarryKane · 28/11/2020 18:53

Not at all.

HadEnoughOfBears · 28/11/2020 18:55

None.
DH is working from home, I work for a children's charity, kids (Primary & Secondary) have been back at school since 11th August.

None. SE London.

Twice for a few days due to symptomatic family member awaiting test results in the early autumn. Nothing since and we live in a fairly low risk area, though bubbles just started popping at school so I’m braced for a child to have to isolate any day now.

Friolero · 28/11/2020 18:59

All of us for a couple of days waiting for DS test result (negative so free to go out again after that).

DS1 and DS2 been home for 2 weeks each due to a positive case in their classes.

DS3 ok so far so keeping fingers crossed for no more isolation!

3 times. West Yorkshire. 1 bubble closure, 1 contact trace and last week when we all developed dreadful heavy coughs (not covid thankfully)

Small school, we both wfh, and are pretty stringent with rules, we haven’t seen family in months and months.

We went to a family small restaurant once (which I think is where we was contact traced from). Pure rotten luck!

shazshaz · 28/11/2020 19:06

3 times here. Twice due to classroom cases and 1 time as a family while we waited for my results. Eldest DD has also missed an additional 2 weeks of school because of covid related staffing issues.

PTW1234 · 28/11/2020 19:06

I also know multiple people who have sadly died (all over 50), a large portion of work colleagues have also tested positive (even though wfh!), there has been plenty of parents in our small rural school that have it as well. Although a lot of parents at school are clinical staff in variety of NHS roles

Not a single time

Lindy2 · 28/11/2020 19:17

In April DD and DH both had a high temperature for a day. It didn't make much difference to DD as we just carried on homeschool as usual. DH had to have 2 weeks off work though. It felt very odd to do that as he was fine after a couple of days. He couldn't risk taking Covid into his workplace though. Tests became available to key workers just before the end of his 2 weeks so he did have a test as soon as he could which confirmed negative.

middleager · 28/11/2020 19:18

I think I'm the lady OP refers to.
I feel really unlucky now. We are in Birmingham and DS1 is on his 4th lot of self isolation due to school (he'd just been found out about the fourth lot as his classmate tested positive) when he then tested Covid. There's currently three active cases in his form. (y10) and have been dozens across school.

My other secondary school child (different school) has had one lot and now this, so two lots.

I have said that I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe and that we have been exceptionally unfortunate. My one son barely manages one week back and he's sent home again. That's ten weeks for him now since Sept of not being able to leave the house.

It's really depressing and I cannot go on living like this on a perpetual cycle. I just don't know what to do.
He loves school and is really deflated now too. He is normally so confident, so sporty and I have tried to remain optimistic, but now catching Covid on top of it all, is the final straw.

I have tried to explain to relatives with children in other parts of the country, but I think they find it hard to imagine as they haven't had one lot.

I also work with 20 schools in three regions and all of them are suffering. I'm hearing of 1 or 2 periods of self isolation, but four and now Covid.

I'm at my wit's end.

FranticBanana · 28/11/2020 19:18

One short (child with symptoms, took 4 days to get negative result), one nearly 2 weeks (bubble burst) plus 2 weeks with covid. Secondary aged child’s school also closed to that year group for a week. We’re in Bradford.

Oblomov20 · 28/11/2020 19:20

None. Ds1 & Ds2 both had to isolate as a close contact, for 2 weeks, at different times. But neither was ill, showed signs. Was mostly inconvenient. Dh and I haven't had to at all.

timeforanewstart · 28/11/2020 19:20

2 days once whilst we awaited my test , ds1 at college 2 days week , ds2 at school year 11 , no pupil cases at his school so far but only a matter of time
Been cases at ds1 college but not in his class or block

Millie2013 · 28/11/2020 19:22
