Extended School holidays leaked document (Scotland )

What’s everyone’s feelings on the leaked document suggesting school holidays could be extended till the 11th January ? I think it makes sense to keep them shut for the week. Allowing everyone to not mix again for two weeks after the Christmas bubbles end . Seems like it could save a further even longer lockdown later on in January.

Now it means I have no choice. I cannot isolate as a precaution. Its shit.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 03/12/2020 17:44

But you know, its a case of I am alright jack.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 03/12/2020 17:46

I may be sensible. So may you. However others may not be. Thats the problem. They may pass it to you and your family!

Mistressiggi · 03/12/2020 17:54

I'm sorry, fortheroses, it's just awful. They should never have planned a relaxation over christmas if they weren't willing to alter school dates.

mondaywine · 03/12/2020 17:56

Really what learning? The last two days before Xmas. Crafts, DVDs and playing. Let’s not pretend this is about anything other than childcare.

Cismyfatarse · 03/12/2020 18:20

Not all classes are doing cutting out and watching films. My Higher, N5 and AH classes will be working up to the last minute. Younger classes in S1-3 will have things organised well ahead so they can do something a bit less critical but it will be watching "Christmas Carol" having read the play version.

If children in primary do that - brilliant. Learning should be fun but I can't lose time with older classes.

Mistressiggi · 03/12/2020 18:22

Well my higher class won't be working on the Monday and Tuesday because I can guarantee now that many of them won't be in - if they're in, absolutely I will teach them but if many families vote with their feet and keep them off then I cannot cover new ground. Some revision at best.

JamesMoriarty · 03/12/2020 20:08

Having an extra day of Christmas fun in school is still beneficial to many children even if that's all they're doing.

I wish our poor head who is now going to have to be available on Christmas Day to Test and Protect was getting to have the holiday she sorely needs. Guidance is coming in daily which is restricting what we can do in those last two days and around parties, fun activities etc.

Possums4evr · 04/12/2020 08:30

What would happen if the heads just didn't do it? They are officially on their holidays, they are not on the clock. They could pass the relevant info over to someone else who is being paid (class groups, seating plans) and let them deal with it.

I hope they do! PHA should be the one calling parents on Xmas day telling them their DC have to isolate, not a head. It is a disgrace! No teaching staff should be working Christmas Day never mind having to do a such a horrible task.
Possums4evr · 04/12/2020 11:09

Thank you Private. I don't normally speak out in support of our heads that much! But I think they've had a very raw deal this year. They won't refuse to do this as the stakes are so high, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of them burn out rather than getting Covid.

mondaywine · 04/12/2020 15:17

Agreed. I have a super head. She’s been worked to a nub this year. They are having to actively say they refuse to do it. Can you imagine any of them doing that?

PrivateD00r · 04/12/2020 17:43

I hope they all refuse. School staff don't work Christmas Day, PHA staff do!
