Extended School holidays leaked document (Scotland )

Peppafrig · 27/11/2020 16:12

What’s everyone’s feelings on the leaked document suggesting school holidays could be extended till the 11th January ? I think it makes sense to keep them shut for the week. Allowing everyone to not mix again for two weeks after the Christmas bubbles end . Seems like it could save a further even longer lockdown later on in January.

Ok so as I have insomnia I’ll wade in and guess that baws is a teacher Grin

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 11:07

Baws I get paid more than the average teacher and I’m part time. Not that that is relevant?

There is only one unhinged poster and it sure ain’t me. And I haven’t insulted you so enough with your insults and try act like a grown up.

Russiansilver · 29/11/2020 11:10

All those years of reading on here that it's fine to take your children out of school for holidays. Perhaps education is finally been given the importance it always deserved?

It's always been important to me. I don't think you can really compare taking kids out for a holiday on an average year with the government taking another week away from them when so many have been lost already this year. The real pisser is they are only doing it because they were too scared to tell people to stay at fucking home over Christmas.

DumplingsAndStew I think she thinks that you and I are the same person, and it’s my kids she feels sorry. Although I don’t know why she needs to feel sorry for them🤷🏻‍♀️.

I think I have been tagging her by highlighting her user name with “*”.

This!

Some people were going to do what they like anyways. Its what they always do. Some were probably going to have a small get together because they are concerned about the mental health of family members, which is totally understandable.

Others were going to have a quiet Xmas as it was the best thing to do.

Now the government across the 4 nations have legitimised us getting together at Xmas. So many more people are going to get together than before.

And the people who really don't care, well they'll have an even bigger party than they would have done!

Ps, my children have never had a day off for a holiday. Their attendance is always extremely high because as a family we really value education.

Covidnomore · 29/11/2020 11:39

You tag someone if you @ them.

So * is better.

Baws, your personal attacks are disgusting. No one was criticising teachers. As I said to the last teacher who came on shouting and swearing and accusing us of teacher bashing, this extra week off was neither decided by teachers nor for them. No one here is blaming teachers!!!! I assumed it would be home learning so surely if anything it will actually be stressful for teachers to have this threw at them and manage their own dc etc.

I don't understand why you need to personally attack parents who are worried about managing childcare and homeschool.

Your assumption that it is because we don't want to spend time with our DC is shocking. You don't have the empathy to understand that we have jobs that we are dedicated to, our work ethic means that we don't want to mess around our colleagues and we need to work to put food on the table? But no, you immediately jump to the assumption that we can't be bothered to spend time with our DC?

I genuinely hope and pray that you don't teach any of my DC. I don't think you do as my DC have fabulous teachers who have always been very empathetic to us.

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 12:15

PrivateD00r I was really unimpressed with her comments about my not spending time with my children. Vile to think that that’s the opinion that some people have of those of us who work over Christmas.

PrivateD00r · 29/11/2020 12:37

Very upsetting!!!! I wonder would that opinion change if they required our services over Christmas?

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 12:39

PrivateD00r I certainly hope I never require yours again😂

Possums4evr · 29/11/2020 13:26

I don't know Baws and haven't come across her on these threads before. I do know there are staff in tears on a daily basis in my school, another I know having panic attacks in the morning. I would be inclined to assume any irrational behaviour has this at its rout, though I don't know obviously.

Yes, fair point! I just get very offended when I see teachers resort to accusing parents of just not being bothered to spend time with their own DC. Talk about hitting someone where it hurts!

But I see your point, and I do empathise with anyone suffering with their MH, I think most of us have suffered this year, trying to juggle everything.

Nicknacky · 29/11/2020 13:49

Possums4evf Do you genuinely think that justifies her rudeness towards me, insulting me as a parent and ridiculing my job (when she doesn’t know what I work as)?

Everyone has stresses.

Iwonder777 · 29/11/2020 13:57

Will Scottish private schools be affected do you think?

Peppafrig · 30/11/2020 13:49

She didn’t seem to hint today if this was actually happening. When will the decision be made surely soon .

midnightstar66 · 30/11/2020 21:28

It's all been very quiet today hasn't it?! I work in a school and we are none the wiser. Before this was leaked the possibility of blended learning was mentioned as a possibility but nothing concrete on the 21st and 22nd so the local authority obviously has/had no clue either.

papaelf · 30/11/2020 21:41

Are we getting a level review tomorrow? Maybe it will be mentioned then?

dementedpixie · 30/11/2020 21:43

Level 4 staying where it is. Dont know if others will change

Peppafrig · 01/12/2020 13:20

I think she is talking to parliament at 2.15pm today

Awful!!!!! Children have paid enough for all this.

Scottish education was already in freefall - where will it be after this?!

christinarossetti19 · 01/12/2020 13:31

Surely it would make sense to reduce transmission in secondary schools in particular before families go and mix with other households.

It would be better for people to have reduced their risk of carrying the virus before they visit other households, rather than spreading it around in the first place I'd have thought.

Or maybe there's something that I've missed.

Sorry, repeated myself a bit there.
