Family breaking lockdown rules

PandemicPalava · 17/11/2020 15:53

My family are not following the guidelines as they've had enough of it. I'm finding it really difficult.

Mum and sister plus family live together so are in a bubble with my Nan. However my Nan and mum have both had my other sister and cousins in their houses.

I'm so worried for them all. Walks outside would be fine but they're popping round for a cup of tea like there is no lockdown.

I broached it with my Nan earlier and she said her mental health and my cousins are more important than Covid and she'll suffer any consequences, health, legal or financial.

I'm so torn as I don't want anyone falling apart buy equally don't want anyone to fall ill. Nan is 82 and mum has asthma.

I don't know what to do or say. Probably nothing will make any difference and they're all adults. I just think it's insulting to all those struggling that they've just chosen not to bother and are being flippant about it all.

Urgh. Just needed to rant.

What would you all do / say if anything?

I’ll leave you be to wallow OP

TokenGinger · 18/11/2020 11:29
@TokenGinger so sorry for your loss, completely understand your Grandad's position. I feel like this is the stance my family are taking but what they're saying is that they don't care any more. Maybe if they articulated it to me I could understand but all I get is that they are bored and don't care any more
Thank you.

It's such bizarre times. I understand your view. Technically you're the one in the "right". But so many are going against the rules now that it's almost the norm to not be following.

Jroseforever · 18/11/2020 11:30

Would indicate you have raised it before?!

PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:31

@GabriellaMontez you can be independent and active and still be unable to make decisions.

I had to grow up fast due to their indecision and suffered as a consequence so maybe just maybe it is a struggle to live with and find any decisions they make easy to accept.

Maybe I do need to back right off. However, what the fuck do I do when they come to me because it has all gone to the shitter?

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:32

@Jroseforever you are a nasty shit so fuck right off

OP posts:
Choirbells · 18/11/2020 11:33

Pandemicpalava
I'm in total agreement with you, to many people are not following the rules, witch is exactly why we are still in this mess and why we will continue to be, for some time.

PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:33

@Jroseforever I asked my Nan about it after she volunteered the information.

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:33

@Choirbells seems we are in the minority and blowing it out of all proportion.

OP posts:
Choirbells · 18/11/2020 11:38

Exactly, it's such a shame and so sad that people are not doing what they should be doing

Bathroom12345 · 18/11/2020 11:39

I agree with Pandemic Palava. Jroseforver - you do realise that the more people who think the rules arent for them the longer the rest of us will suffer and the longer this pandemic will go on trashing the jobs, the economy etc.

In normal times of course having lunch with an elderly person is lovely. We are not in normal times. Why can people not see this. This isnt going to go away until we start to follow the policies.

When the media state that despite certain lockdowns the rates arent going down as expected.

ITS BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK THE RULES DONT APPLY TO THEM. DO WHAT THEY LIKE FOR THEIR OWN ENDS. SOME OF THOSE ENDS MIGHT BE WORTHY, THEY ARE LONELY, ITS ONLY ONE EXTRA PERSON THEY ARE MEETING, THEY ARE FEELING OK.

THIS THREAD SHOWS EXACTLY WHY WE ARENT MAKING SPEEDY PROGRESS IN GETTING ON TOP OF THE VIRUS.

GabriellaMontez · 18/11/2020 11:43

you can be independent and active and still be unable to make decisions.

It sounds like they're all clear in their decisions. You mean decisions that you agree with and have decided are correct and right.

You're gran sounds wonderful, keeping herself fit, healthy, social, active mind etc. I imagine myself doing what she's doing.

PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:44

@Bathroom12345 thank you I completely agree. It's shocked me to the core the responses I've got on here and the other thread about not isolating children is just as bad.

Under normal circumstances my uncle popping over is lovely, but I know he thinks it's all a joke and won't be careful around my Nan, still kisses her on the cheek and hugs her. He went to London at the beginning of the lockdown just before theatres closed, then had my Nan over and was kissing and hugging her, laughing about everyone being stupid to follow the rules. What's the alternative?

I'm just gutted that me expressing my concerns apparently is wrong and they're adults. Well so am I and if I want to tell them I'm concerned for them I will, whatever the fallout. It's very shit

OP posts:
Tararararara · 18/11/2020 11:45

It has no bearing on you.

But it doesn't have bearing on lots of people - namely myself and my colleagues. We can't just get on with our lives pulling double shifts and working 7 days a week, breaking under the strain of a heaving hospital. It isn't just about people dying, its about the ones in hospital beds, the cancelled operations because they've contracted COVID (and therefore won't recover as well), the wards having to isolate because Frank couldn't stay away from Maureen and now Sheila can't go home after her hip replacement and we can't allow the therapy staff in to support her, so her new hip won't be as painfree and mobile as it would otherwise be. It's Katie's husband having to isolate from her and their new baby because his Aunty Sharon he cares for broke lockdown and went to see Pauline and her son brought COVID to them all.

Names changed, but real life scenarios. I could fill the boards with them. Not death, not long COVID or life-long COVID related illnesses but caused by COVID non the less.

Shock

OP that is not nice !

TransplantedScouser · 18/11/2020 11:46

Meh.

I’m off to spend the weekend with a friend of mine (arguably best friend) I haven’t seen for 18 months (lives several hundred miles away ) - out last weekend planned was abandoned due to lock down 1 - not a cat in hells chance we are rearranging again

movingonup20 · 18/11/2020 11:46

Whether it's a big concern for their health is dependent upon the lifestyles of the people they are meeting eg if their visitors are wfh, no children etc then the risk is minuscule so mental health trumps this bug if the cousin/sibling has school aged kids and is a frontline worker it's quite different !

Jroseforever · 18/11/2020 11:46

Get some fresh air OP
Have a coffee
Zoom a friend

PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:48

@GabriellaMontez I don't think they are really. Of course I would prefer them to be on the same page as me, but it's their reasoning that's bothering me. It doesn't make sense, they're just fed up with it and bored. Not falling apart, not Ill, not anything other then can't be arsed with the hassle of a lockdown.

I do hope my Nan knows what she's doing and is happy with the consequences. She sounded happy today so maybe if she falls ill she will say it was worth it. My friend is a nurse said she wouldn't get a ventilator in the hospital as they're being prioritised for younger people. If this is her choice then so be it. It's her birthday next week so no doubt I will be the only one outside throwing a present through the window

OP posts:
Bathroom12345 · 18/11/2020 11:48

I am shocked too re the majority of the responses. No wonder our rates arent going down! With all the idiots stating they are doing what they like. Shame on them.

TransplantedScouser · 18/11/2020 11:48

She was on the shielding list last time due to having had cancer in the past and vein asthmatic. She’s 55 and obese with high blood pressure and I’m 45 and obese

We know the risks but like is too short and chances are we’ll be fine. I’ve had covid once anyway

PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:49

@Tararararara goodness this is awful and is EXACTLY why I am sticking to there rules. I am so so sorry you are dealing with the fallout of behaviour like my families

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:50

@GabriellaMontez I know it wasn't nice! She was gaslighting and was being a dick so I told her what I felt. Meh

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:51

@TransplantedScouser good luck and hope you don't impact lots of people in the process

OP posts:
PandemicPalava · 18/11/2020 11:52
