Does anyone think that England will definitely be out of lockdown after 2nd?

No. I think the government will use the apparently imminent vaccine as an excuse to extend it for a couple more weeks at least.

MummaBear4321 · 12/11/2020 15:14

I think it's likely to end as I think they know there will be major backlash if they dont give people Christmas with their families at least, but I reckon if the 2nd lockdown does end, there will be a third lockdown in January.

3littlewords · 12/11/2020 15:14

We may all/mostly be in tier 3 but yes lockdown will end for economic reasons if nothing else. Christmas is a time people spend the most money businesses will be open again so we can recoup some of the lost revenue throughout the year

Viv0321 · 12/11/2020 15:17

So does tier 3 mean hospitality will be open? Xmas events etc?

OP posts:
3littlewords · 12/11/2020 15:20

Pubs are closed, restaurants can open, no household mixing indoors

tortoiseshell1985 · 12/11/2020 15:23

No I don't

Dadnotamum72 · 12/11/2020 15:32

Yes probably but with a new tier 4 for some areas.

On a slightly different note I keep seeing places saying they are reopening on the 2nd but it's until the 2nd so reopening would be be the 3rd? Has boris confused the message on when it finishes?

PurpleDaisies · 12/11/2020 15:33

Yes, back to the tier system.

WoodYewBee · 12/11/2020 15:52

No not with the cases/ deaths all rising

Bushola · 12/11/2020 15:56

I think they will go back, but as Dad above says an extra Tier, expect him to come back on TV around the 27th though and shake his fist.

We MUST now take action, you must stay at home, protect the NerHurSt etc etc save lives, control the vaccine, sit in the sun etc etc

HopeAndDriftWood · 12/11/2020 15:56

They seemed to be reporting yesterday that we'd be out, but the country would be split into four or five bigger regions, and they'd be introducing a tier 4 which is essentially the lockdown we currently have. I presume that's come from somewhere, as everything else that has been leaked has... And they were quite specific about some things, like the new regions being announced the week before lockdown ends.

So yes, I suspect we'll have ended official lockdown so Boris can say he was right and it was only needed for a month, but the regions will be re-defined and we'll all be in tier 3 or 4 for Christmas.

CarlaH · 12/11/2020 16:00

This doesn't feel remotely like a lockdown. Plenty of traffic on the roads, people reporting that those who can't go to shopping centres/restaurants/pubs/lesiure centres/soft play etc just go to a supermarket or The Range for entertainment rather than staying at home.

Loads of people on here and in my personal experience are continuing to meet up with family because they won't be told what to do.

Schools and universities still open.

So many opportunities for the continued spread of the virus.

Hard to see it will make that much difference really.

ifonly4 · 12/11/2020 16:02

I reckon it'll end. There's talk of adjusting the tiers which we will then be put into. Even if there's some loosening of restrictions for xmas, there will have to be restrictions as they can't have everyone mixing with a few different households otherwise we'll be locking down again in February. Also Eid and soon Diwali have been affected which are important to cultures who celebrate them and it wouldn't be fair to just let everyone else mix for Xmas because it suits the rest of most of us.

3littlewords · 12/11/2020 16:08

Surely we are in tier 4 now! Tier 3 is still very restrictive but with non essential shops gyms and hairdressers open. In terms of mixing with others its pretty much what it is now

BurningEars · 12/11/2020 16:17

No. I think things will only get tighter as this ‘lockdown’ won’t have the desired results.

LazyName · 12/11/2020 16:23

I thought I heard on the news legally ‘lockdown’ ends on 2nd but we will definitely be in tier 2 or 3, or basically another lockdown if they invent tier 4 Angry

helloxhristmas · 12/11/2020 16:27

No. I expect tier 4,5...

ktp100 · 12/11/2020 16:42

No. Especially now they're saying vaccine in the spring and furlough been extended to March.

They're not expecting things to get better for months yet.

frozendaisy · 12/11/2020 16:44

Out of lockdown, into tiers, little discernable difference.

ktp100 · 12/11/2020 16:44

I think it's likely to end as I think they know there will be major backlash if they dont give people Christmas with their families at least, but I reckon if the 2nd lockdown does end, there will be a third lockdown in January

A major backlash is better than more people dying, as is not seeing our families over Xmas.

Chloemol · 12/11/2020 16:52

It’s in law to end 2nd December so if they want to extend it’s got to go back to MPs to vote. I think it will end, we will go back to tiers but there will be a tier 4 which is the same as the current lockdown for some areas

Delatron · 12/11/2020 16:54

Many people can’t really equate lots of people dying with their own individual behaviour though. So there will be a backlash if it continues. There is no appetite on the whole for this second lockdown. Many more places are open. I am seeing groups gathering, play dates going on.

We had one shot at lockdown. We didn’t use the time effectively.
Most people have had enough now and the government knows it.

We will go back to tiers with no households mixing but many will ignore the rules.

Crakeandoryx · 12/11/2020 16:56

Yes we will be out of lockdown and regional tiers will come back into play. I doubt anywhere will be tier 1 with the majority in 3 until Christmas week when it might be reassessed.

PuppyMonkey · 12/11/2020 16:57

I don’t know, I just can’t imagine them saying “yes all the pubs can open again now” just in the run up up Christmas when everyone will think “let’s party!”

What could possibly go wrong? Confused

Delatron · 12/11/2020 16:59

Well remember the summer and eat out to help out! Encouraging us to go on holiday. Then...

I saw in the paper eat out to help out was coming back. This rollercoaster seems like their strategy! Open up, encourage people out, whoops you naughty lot the infection rate has increased, back inside. And repeat.
