That really didn't happen, are you deliberately rewriting history or do you just not know what you're talking about. No one ever even said it would be 3 weeks never mind swore up and down, whatever that means

There you go. Right there in the title. They did initially say 3 weeks. Were you being rude deliberately or were you just not brought up very well?

shinynewapple2020 · 12/11/2020 23:20

It will return to Tiers system . I expect my area to be in a higher Tier than it was previously , unless we see a big reduction of cases over the next couple of weeks .

Maybe a loosening of some restrictions for just a couple of days around Christmas.

DonnaDonna01 · 12/11/2020 23:47

Quite a lot of people are hearing about the furlough extension until the end of March and linking it to the end of lockdown but if we look at the first lockdown restrictions started to ease in June but the furlough scheme continued until the end of October. So a similar timeline. Regardless of lockdowns, treatments and vaccines some areas / groups of people will continue to have restrictions past the end of March I would think.

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 13/11/2020 09:37

Can’t decide. I think they will reopen everything but I think they’ll get the schools to close earlier for Christmas

puffinkoala · 13/11/2020 12:51

I agree it will officially end but there will be a new tier system (it was repealed by the legislation introducing the lockdown) with most areas in stricter tiers than they were pre-lockdown (except for maybe any places that were in tier three before where cases have started to come down).

CKBJ · 13/11/2020 15:23

Definitely end 2nd of Dec but and this is a big but the tier criteria will be stricter and will basically mean we will be in a lockdown albeit without the name.

islockdownoveryet · 13/11/2020 18:34

Yes but in tier 3

Gillian1980 · 13/11/2020 22:54

I think they may extend it by another week or two.

I expect them to make some kind of guidelines for Christmas.... like allowing 2 households to mix indoors. They know that millions will break a lockdown over Christmas so it will look like they’re maintaining control.

I fully expect a further lockdown in January, after a relaxing over Christmas.

No it will end on Dec 2nd as we have been told.
SomelikeitHoth · 13/11/2020 23:35

Definitely ends 2 Dec then probably back to tiering

ChasingRainbows19 · 13/11/2020 23:35

We’ve been in further restrictions on greater Manchester since July, the new lockdown feels the same with exceptions such as hospitality/gyms/hairdresser etc . Lots of shop still open, lots of cafes etc doing take aways, buses busy.

I don’t think the lockdown will be increased: the economy will need the Christmas trade. I do think we could have a very bad January though for case increases and hospitalisations, post Christmas mixing and heavily in flu/winter season.. As cases increase I think many places will come out of lockdown on a higher tier level.

N0rthern · 14/11/2020 11:25

Where I live (West Yorkshire)was just about to go into tier 3 then lockdown was announced. Rates have continued to go up, but this is late October figures we’re seeing now. Currently at approx 450/100k. I am keen to know what December is going to be like as trying to think what might be possible for Christmas- e.g outside gatherings. It’s hard to not let it get me down :(

Ihaveyourback · 14/11/2020 12:07

Tier system, shops open, hairdressers and restaurants at a stretch. Pubs will remain closed.

I know our theatre thinks it will be open for christmas, I have just received confirmation they are planning to go ahead.

IrkedEssex · 14/11/2020 14:48

In The Times today it said that Sage thinks the lockdown should end in three weeks. It also said Sage thinks Tier 1 is useless. According to the report it is looking like the best anyone can hope for is something like the previous Tier 2 with a possible relaxation for Christmas depending on numbers.

ifonly4 · 14/11/2020 14:54

No one else has mentioned it, but I'm sure they said on the tv last week that the tiers would be tweaked, so guess they'll be tightened up especially if they're planning to give a bit of leeway for Xmas.

HelloMissus · 14/11/2020 19:50

We’ll be back in tiers with no mixing between households either indoors or out.
So we can go to restaurants etc with our household.
Then a relaxing for a couple of days at Xmas with Boris begging us to be sensible. Cue Mumsnet Covid police telling anyone having their mum over that they’re literally killing people, that having their cousin who lives alone in for dinner is utterly ‘selfish’ whilst loving the fact that they don’t have to see anyone.

Stellaris22 · 14/11/2020 20:05

It will end as it has to.

But after the whole country driving back and forth, everyone crammed into cars and huge mixing of households, we will end up straight into another lockdown. Only this time the schools could be closed.

All because people are selfish. Yes it's tough, yes it's been a long and hard year. But why this means people will ignore the virus just to share a dinner is beyond me.

Personally I think family bubbles shouldn't travel and dangerously mix, so we can let those living alone or genuinely have exceptional reasons to safely mix, are able to do so. But hey, that would be showing empathy.
