Hasn't he already said we'll go back to the tier system .
It'll probably be tier 3 which isn't that much different from now except the shops will open and Restaurants can open but only in your own household. and we can't mix households still so not much different to now .

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

No, todays cases are really high so clearly it’s not working yet.

It would be awful on the NHS and people who can’t wfh if they relax over Christmas as it puts those people at huge risk afterwards if lots of groups mixing as they won’t be quarantined afterwards.

I'm pretty sure they will announce they have added several thousand cases that have been missed over the months... You don't nearly double the amount of cases in one day... If it has then we are all in trouble.
kittensarecute · 12/11/2020 18:23

@Forgetmenot157

I think it will end... Will be 6 weeks of less restrictions like the summer then 2 months of lockdown while all the elderly and vulnerable get vaccinated... Hopefully then minimal restrictions by easter.... I think most people could deal with that... Especially a third lockdown if we knew that the elderly and vulnerable were being vaccinated and it would likely be the last lockdown.
No, we can't keep having constant lockdowns. The economy and people's mental health would suffer.

Cases will have gone up due to mass testing in Liverpool .
Forgetmenot157 · 12/11/2020 18:27

@kittensarecute oh I totally agree it will be a disaster... The only other thing would be to fully isolate the elderly for January and febuary and March until they are vaccinated.

DonnaDonna01 · 12/11/2020 18:29

Lockdowns do not solve the problem of a pandemic, why the government can’t learn from the countries who have faired way better than us is a mystery. Money, time and effort needs to be spent on track, trace and isolate, we’ve got this whole thing very very wrong.

MercyBooth · 12/11/2020 18:43

They are expecting the public to let go of their livelihoods, sacrifice visiting their families and let go of some of their freedoms. In return they arent even willing to let go of their ideology. See Track and Trace.

itsgettingweird · 12/11/2020 18:55

He said we'd go back into tier system.

If that is true they need to be much more prescriptive about the boundaries, how you move tiers, how you get out if tiers and even things like number of people allowed let sq m in shops etc and pubs.

The main issue I've seen is that teens who behave anti socially were always removed from our shopping centre. Since COVID we just get told they aren't allowed. I didn't realise COVID meant you were no longer allowed to refuse to serve people? (I wouldn't serve the kids sucking lollies and touching displays in shops Covid or not!)

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 12/11/2020 18:58

I think it will go on until the 13th, be lifted over Christmas and go into tier 2/3 and then back into full national lockdown before the new year begins to avoid large mass gatherings.

No it will end on the 2nd as we have been told.
nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 12/11/2020 19:10

I'm really doubting it will tbh. They swore up and down that the first one would only be 3 weeks. They knew full well it wouldn't be. They were full of shit then and they're full of shit now.

If it does end on the second I think it will be short lived and we will be back in lockdown by January .

No they didn't. they said the first one would be REVIEWED after 3 weeks.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/11/2020 19:15

it'll all end in tiers

Now that's clever ... Grin Grin

notangelinajolie · 12/11/2020 19:19

Yes, but back to tiers. Uni students are being let out so we wont be seeing all the pubs and bars re-opening.

Whilst I agree they are full of shit, but. It quite as much as this forum I don’t think they’ll extend it as there’s not as much support now. Even from previous die hard Lockdowners or the mainstream media who aren’t, apart from the BBC, following the agenda quite so much.
3littlewords · 12/11/2020 19:34

We might be out of lockdown on 2nd Dec but sure as hell we'll be back in it 2nd Jan with all these idiots (on other threads not specifically here) insistent on the massive family Christmas because they think they are special and rules don't apply to them because its Christmas Angry

MercyBooth · 12/11/2020 19:34

There are a hell of a lot of people who didnt hear that then. Because a lot of shops in my area put up signs back in March saying.......closed for 3 weeks due to Covid 19 and government guidelines.

Bluntness100 · 12/11/2020 19:35

I think it’s pretty much guaranteed op. Yes we will be out and any areas with high cases will have a higher tier against them. But without a shadow of a doubt we will be back to tiers

JustBidenMyTime · 12/11/2020 19:36

Furlough is currently extended until March 2021 so I guess cabinet member Rishi Sunak knows something.

itsgettingweird · 12/11/2020 19:46

@JustBidenMyTime

In the their system some places remained closed or restricted. So furlough may be needed locally and regionally over the next 4 months but not nationally equally for all businesses.

Extending it saves coming up with another plan after December.

HotPenguin · 12/11/2020 20:01

I think it might change a bit after 2 Dec, but I don't think cases will have reduced enough to relax the rules majorly. I agree schools will continue to keep the R rate up. Maybe they will try and let more shops open. Christmas itself I think they can afford to relax the rules because schools and lots of workplaces will be closed.

Crunchymum · 12/11/2020 20:05

Out of lockdown into extended school holidays (I suspect a 4 week festive holiday!!)

Breaking news for Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Executive has this evening announced an extension to the fire break lockdown. Close contact services including hair and beauty salons will reopen by appointment on Friday 20 November.
The NHBF is extremely disappointed with this last minute decision and the further impact this will have on the industry. We are now in discussion with the NI Government to ensure additional financial support is available to businesses for the extended period of lockdown

That really didn't happen, are you deliberately rewriting history or do you just not know what you're talking about. No one ever even said it would be 3 weeks never mind swore up and down, whatever that means
Fortherosesjoni70 · 12/11/2020 20:58

@Chloemol

It’s in law to end 2nd December so if they want to extend it’s got to go back to MPs to vote. I think it will end, we will go back to tiers but there will be a tier 4 which is the same as the current lockdown for some areas
This for sure. However i do wonder about Christmas and shops. It will be tough for retail for sure.
