If the vaccine was immediately available for everyone - would you have it?

Not after an argument I’m just genuinely wondering! I have spoken to two friends and one would have it and one wouldn’t. If the vaccine (still with 90% effectivity) was available for everyone in the UK, would you have it straight away?

Not immediately. I would see how the ones who had get along and if there are some unexpected reactions to it. I won't be offered it straight away anyway so I can wait.

Chloemol · 09/11/2020 17:37

Undecided at the moment, particularly as the latest one being 90% effective seems to be based on a sample size of 94!

Northernsoullover · 09/11/2020 17:38

Yes, those of you who want to how everyone else gets along with it is 43,000 not enough?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/11/2020 17:38

Nope. I'm very low risk so won't have the vaccine unless it becomes mandatory. Then again, I don't have the flu jab either.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 09/11/2020 17:39

@amylou8

Nope! I would not trust Boris et al to tie their own shoe laces, I'm in no hurry to have their rush job vaccine. As a fit 40 year old female my risk from covid is tiny, probably much smaller than the side effects of a vaccine. If I was a 60 year old over weight smoker with diabetes my risk assessment would probably reach a different conclusion.
Neither would I, but fortunately Johnson has nothing to do with the production and licensing of the vaccine.
JamminDoughnuts · 09/11/2020 17:39

Of course, my colleagues don't want it but do have the flu vaccine,
It is a no brainer

CaraDuneRedux · 09/11/2020 17:40

Yes.

Anticipating being way down the list of eligibility, though.

BackforGood · 09/11/2020 17:47

No ....I worry it is being rushed through and that any long term implications on health are being swept under the carpet.

This ^
It normally takes YEARS for a vaccine to be properly trialed and tested.
Statistically (and yes, I know there can be exceptions) I don't fit into any of the reasons that would put me 'at risk' from COVID, so, at present, I'd wait until some real scientists can convince me it is a safe and sensible thing to do.

Dinosaur19 · 09/11/2020 17:48

HitchikersGuide
I'd happily wait my turn for as long as it takes to allow those more worried about Covid to get in there first, but basically neutral on it: very pro-vaccine in general but have never bothered with a flu jab and wouldn't bother with this one unless I was told I had to in order to be able to do something eg travel.

I think this also sums up my thoughts excellently

I’m CEV, and awaiting info on whether this type of vaccine is likely to be safe (Blood Cancer UK usually put out good info on this, but I’ve yet to see an update since today’s announcement)

I hope, if I can have it, I can move from shield type restrictions to the sort of ordinary lockdown most MNers are living with

Crazycatlady83 · 09/11/2020 17:51

Yes. Applied to be in a trial but wasn’t lucky enough to be chosen.

Crazycatlady83 · 09/11/2020 17:53

Of course it won’t be “mandatory” but I think it will be required to do things like travel. Countries with low rates don’t want imported cases and I think will still only want people if they provide a negative test or a are vaccinated

AgeLikeWine · 09/11/2020 17:55

Yes, absolutely.

I’m over 50 and asthmatic and having been ultra-cautious since the start of March, I want my life back. I have the flu jab every year with no significant adverse effects, so I have no concerns.

Bring it on.

wizzbangfizz · 09/11/2020 17:57

Nope.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 09/11/2020 17:57

Yes, in a heartbeat. I have only been able to see my family face-to-face once all year. I'm so fucking sick of this now...

Dinosaur19 · 09/11/2020 17:58

How would other countries enforce a ‘no entry unless vaccinated’ rule if it came down to it?

OP posts:
Loveable1 · 09/11/2020 17:58

No we will not be and we are high risk.

SimonJT · 09/11/2020 17:58

Places already have this for yellow fever, you have to have your certification of vaccine.
TheKeatingFive · 09/11/2020 17:59

Something like a vaccine passport. An official document you’d have to show before getting on a plane.

Lindy2 · 09/11/2020 18:00

Yes. If proved safe I will get vaccinated and I'm delighted that my elderly mum is likely to be protected fairly soon and have some of her normal life back.

ConnellWaldron · 09/11/2020 18:00

Yes. Immunologist friend (unconnected to this vaccine) has no concerns about its safety.

WankPuffins · 09/11/2020 18:01

No.

(Have you seen I Am Legend? Grin)

But seriously, no. And I wouldn’t let my children have it either (not an anti vaxxer).

dangerrabbit · 09/11/2020 18:01

Yeah of course. Why wouldn't I Hmm

AwFeebs · 09/11/2020 18:01

Yes. This vaccine may of been developed more quickly than usual but that was always going to happen when the whole world was working on it. Everyone had a common aim.

Olmec8 · 09/11/2020 18:03

I won't be kicking their door in for it but yes, if available, I'd have it. I'd be very surprised if I'm on the list.
