If the vaccine was immediately available for everyone - would you have it?

Not after an argument I’m just genuinely wondering! I have spoken to two friends and one would have it and one wouldn’t. If the vaccine (still with 90% effectivity) was available for everyone in the UK, would you have it straight away?

Absolutely, first in the queue. I’m 36 and have parents in their 70s in poor health. The technology in this vaccine has been in development for many many years with other SARS-Cov viruses. I have the flu have every year with no ill effects, mild side effects following the Pneumonia jab...I’m a firm believer in vaccines and have no issue with this one. I’m university based and know some scientists involved in the various trials across the U.K. and Europe.

I'm quite wary of the potential side effects to be honest- immediate and longer term.

HitchikersGuide · 09/11/2020 17:18

I'd happily wait my turn for as long as it takes to allow those more worried about Covid to get in there first, but basically neutral on it: very pro-vaccine in general but have never bothered with a flu jab and wouldn't bother with this one unless I was told I had to in order to be able to do something eg travel.

  1. has it been peer reviewed?
  2. has it been tested on XYZ medical conditions (incl. mine)?
  3. Is the data and criteria system transparent and available?

If yes, then I'd read through and decide based on that.

Eviebeans · 09/11/2020 17:21

No. I would be more worried about potential side effects of the vaccine than Covid. Would wait to see if there were any major side effects first. Usually these things have a lot more testing and trials before being rolled out. I feel that to have it now would be taking part in a giant clinical trial

fififorgetmenotforgot68 · 09/11/2020 17:22

Nope !

ForBlueSkies · 09/11/2020 17:22

In a heartbeat.

TheDogsMother · 09/11/2020 17:25

Yes I would

CarrieBlue · 09/11/2020 17:25

Sleeve is rolled up ready

Runningoutofnamestochange · 09/11/2020 17:27

Yes

AndIquote · 09/11/2020 17:27

I'd see how everyone else gets on with it first.

Benjispruce2 · 09/11/2020 17:27

Yes.

GabsAlot · 09/11/2020 17:28

id rather wait a few months see how the side effects are

im not anti vax

mrshonda · 09/11/2020 17:29

Yes

amylou8 · 09/11/2020 17:29

Nope! I would not trust Boris et al to tie their own shoe laces, I'm in no hurry to have their rush job vaccine. As a fit 40 year old female my risk from covid is tiny, probably much smaller than the side effects of a vaccine. If I was a 60 year old over weight smoker with diabetes my risk assessment would probably reach a different conclusion.

FourTeaFallOut · 09/11/2020 17:30

Yes. I've already ridden on the backs of those who were brave enough to make themselves available for the vaccine trials. I'd be happy to take the vaccine the moment it is approved.

littleloopylou · 09/11/2020 17:31

No. I'm uncomfortable about using such a new vaccine.

PurBal · 09/11/2020 17:31

No. But only because I'm pregnant and we don't know enough about it. But if I wasn't pregnant I probably wouldn't be allowed to get it, don't fall into the high risk groups.

GlowingOrb · 09/11/2020 17:31

Is like to not be at the front of the line because I’ve had some bad reactions to vaccines in the past, but I definitely want to get it.

MillieVanilla · 09/11/2020 17:32

Well just discussed it with DP and apparently I'm mad and no way is he having it cos Boris is a twat and he doesn't trust them.
He got quite animated actually, voicing concerns over stuff from olden days such as thalidomide. Apparently I can do what I like but is he fuck having it.
Anyone elses house split 50/50?

hollyjess · 09/11/2020 17:33

God no.

m0use · 09/11/2020 17:33

Not immediately- I'm low risk, so would wait until the 'rush' was over, and people who are more vulnerable had a chance to get one

SorrelBlackbeak · 09/11/2020 17:34

This.
BloomedAgain · 09/11/2020 17:34

Yes

Mydogisagentleman · 09/11/2020 17:34

No question. I would be happy to pay for my family and me to get it
