Mockdown

Seriously, food market in Chelsea today. Holland and Barrett and Rymans open on the High St. The parks are rammed, households playing football and chatting.

And my child has to stay at home for 2 weeks, missing school, interaction and fresh air for one potential close contact. I am happy to do this, but it's galling in the middle of the rest of the Mockdown.

Human beings acting like human beings by the sound of it.

CrumbsThatsQuick · 07/11/2020 21:23

Yes! So why are we pretending to be locked down.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2020 21:26

Hopefully the majority will see sense, my local town centre was deserted today including Holland and Barrett.

Rosehip10 · 07/11/2020 21:35

You were out to see all these activities? So why shouldn't other people be...

CrumbsThatsQuick · 07/11/2020 21:40

No, just went to my local park for a walk and friends send photos of the food market and high st.

There’s too many people on this planet for us to socially distance properly and for long.

That’s all I could conclude today when we went out on what is usually a quiet walk - this time in crowds.

This virus wants to reduce the size of the human race. I guess that’s what it’s here for.

We have no control and there are too many of us.

It’s a waste of breath complaining.

Rabbitholebonkers · 07/11/2020 21:43

So let’s get this straight, you were clearly out and about, having spectated all of this?

Jeez, have a day off.

Why are people stopping to take pictures in a very crowded place?

CovidClara · 07/11/2020 21:49

Loads of people have had covid and see little point in staying at home. We haven't really been out (walking dog and supermarket) but we have all had covid in the last 4 weeks in our house.

And I did go into Poundland today when walking the dog (the shame)

CrumbsThatsQuick · 07/11/2020 21:50

Not sure.

I am just wondering if lockdown is somehow increasing interaction rather than reducing it. Seemed that way in the (usually much quieter) park today.

I don't know if it was the same food market you're talking about, but I saw someone post about one on Insta (a celeb) and he put a video on and it was so crowded, very few masks, no distancing.

I couldn't believe it was allowed when so much else isn't at the moment.

Sorry to hear that....hope you're OK and recovering.

I wouldn't go to a park at the moment, but look for a place to walk where there was not likely to be lots of other people.

Topseyt · 07/11/2020 21:53

There's nothing wrong with any of those things you mention. Nothing.

This lockdown is ridiculous and very damaging to people's livelihoods. I'm glad so many businesses are now finding a way to stay open and stick two fingers up to it.

ssd · 07/11/2020 21:53

We aren't in lock down here. Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow today was fairly quiet. One of the main streets, usually busy.

I was thinking the same when I saw the photos.... few masks, lots of people.

Also, it's very difficult of you are a small independent business when all the large chains can be faux essential and open.

The thing is... People are allowed outside.
Where else is there to take the kids, everything is shut. Farms, softplays etc.
The only place we've left is parks, of Course its going to be busy on a weekend.
Kids need fresh air, wearing out.

MushMonster · 07/11/2020 22:02

Food markets and Holland and Barret are allowed to open as they sell food and essentials.
Same for parks. They are allowed to open this time around.
Not sure about playing football.. I have not read the England rules because I am in Wales.
It has been a lockdown "light", mockdown made me laugh Grin, as in many more things were open compared to the first lockdown. But we have stuck to going out as less as possible and keep social distance. It was easier than the heavy lockdown days, with no fish and chipsSad
I would rather have this mockdown version than the everything shut for 3 months one

MushMonster · 07/11/2020 22:04

If they were not keeping their distance and not wearing masks, they are in the wrong indeed, and going against the purpose of it all.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 07/11/2020 22:05

My local Botox clinic has announced they're open. They are allowed because they're healthcare providers. Hmm

Chessie678 · 07/11/2020 22:06

It sounds like the majority of these people are just doing normal legal things. It's just that they are all doing the same things in the same place because so much is closed. There's really no reason for retail to be closed anyway as so few cases are linked to it - we saw no spike in cases when retail reopened in June even without masks.

BelleSausage · 07/11/2020 22:11

Is there a special dispensation for cyclists?

Our village was quiet except for the two massive groups of cyclists al standing around in groups of 12 having their coffee break and clogging up the path.

London today. Mockdown forcing more people contact... I give up!

We are seeing the same here in Italy. All commercial centres are closed at the weekend for a month to reduce crowds. So all those people who would go to a commercial centre are coming to our tiny village for a peaceful walk...except thousands of people had the same great idea and the mountain trail resembles Oxford Circus. Worse still, they are city dwellers who think because it's the countryside, masks are not required. You can tell the locals, as they are wearing masks. I don't blame individuals for coming here I wouldn't have expected to find crowds like that either!
