"Boris Johnson is holding a press conference with Sir Simon Stevens, the chief executive of NHS England, at 5pm, No 10 has announced."

What do we think he’s going to say? I’m a bit worried about what he might say.

But I can pretty much guarantee he won’t be on time at 5pm, I’m guessing more like 6!

I've noticed over the months all the experts stand ramrod straight with just their hands resting gently on the lectern - Johnson slumps and leans on it throughout.

@Calmandmeasured1

Plenty of digs at the awful Whitty/Valance graphs He made one comment about the graphs and was very open about it. No digs at all.
“I know that some of these graphs have been hard to understand”

One min later

“No projection, no speculation, just facts”

“Just facts”

Remember the graph projecting 50k cases by mid Oct

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:31

Look...

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 17:32

I give up on listening to it. The neighbours have some very loud fireworks. I'll follow it on here.

That was a projection about what would happen if cases continued to increase at the same rate wasn't it? It was made clear and eventually turned out to be an underestimate. The number of positive test results announced daily is not the same as the number of cases.

freddosfrogs · 05/11/2020 17:33

Are we becoming a new state of the USA which will be required to instantly vote for Trump in order to shore up his presidency?
I wouldn't put it past 2020 to deliver something so stupid now.

herecomesthsun · 05/11/2020 17:33

50k by mid October

look at the ONS survey figures. Just because SERCO Test and Trace failed to measure the numbers, it doesn't mean they weren't there.

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:35

I really like Beth

Brainwashed · 05/11/2020 17:36

NHS guy might be slick but his statement that concurrent flu and covid infections doubled mortality as if it were a proven fact was misleading. There is very limited and sometimes conflicting data on concurrent infections. Obviously reducing flu infections is a good idea but don't dress up the message with scary unproven "facts"

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:37

Ooh interesting question about stats and transparency

Splodgetastic · 05/11/2020 17:37

Boris is referring to Simon as Steven. Brain damage from Covid.

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:38

Our first alas

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:38

In fairness he is called Simon Stevens

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/11/2020 17:39

Probably just doesn't care enough to bother finding out what his name is.

I know, but the “lockdown/covid sceptics” gang, Carl Heneghan, Karl Sikora etc, made a huge deal of criticising those projections online. So I think he clearly wanted to avoid that.
the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 17:39

I do believe that Boris has long covid.
His been a lot worse since April.

jessstan1 · 05/11/2020 17:40

@Shesingsshangrila

He's going to say 'waffle waffle hands face space, all in this together, we can do this, save the NHS, save lives'. There'll be some graphs showing more doom and gloom predicted if we don't do what we're told. And that'll be it.
How did you know ? ;)
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/11/2020 17:40

Of course I understand people's frustrations with NHS test and trace Shock

Fuck off Boris.

Rafflesway · 05/11/2020 17:40

"Irrefutable fact"!

Yeah, whatever! Hmm

the80sweregreat · 05/11/2020 17:42

Lamp tests? Is this Aladdin 's lamp?

StealthPolarBear · 05/11/2020 17:42

OK I'm worryingly drunk already. Might need to slow down a bit

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/11/2020 17:42

stay at home, save lives, protect the NHS, but also blame them for our mistakes.

Fredocorleone · 05/11/2020 17:44

THeres an obvious drinking game here...

Down a shot every time Boris says “errr”, “erm” and a double shot for every “alas”

pontypridd · 05/11/2020 17:44

I hate this government. I hate this lockdown and I usually hate Boris but I’m amazed to say he’s warming to me this evening.

No idea why. It feels like he’s trying hard and coming across as believable and dare I say it sincere for once.

SheepandCow · 05/11/2020 17:44

He really should rest up if he does have it. Taking proper time out to recover and recuperate is so important.

If it's not Long Covid and instead just waffleitis, I'm pleased somebody is a worse waffler than me!
