Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

Lol at B & M telling YOU what you need...same as the middle aisle is Aldi then!

I am confused now...

I should not go out and shop because that's selfish and spreads the virus.

Getting an online delivery is bad and selfish because now other people are putting themselves at risk doing my shopping for me.

Maybe I should have stoked up for the month last week?...Oh wait...

shinynewapple2020 · 07/11/2020 09:51

Lol @Streamingbannersofdawn I think the answer's click and collect Smile

WanderlustWitch · 07/11/2020 10:00

B&M and Home Bargains are the best of the bunch I think, followed by Wilkos. Guess where I'm going today Grin

Figmentofmyimagination · 07/11/2020 13:20

I really need to go to pcworld because my laptop has broken and I want to get it repaired. My work can’t afford to supply laptops so we use our own.

I don’t really understand why pc world isn’t an essential store if we all have to work from home. I can’t tell whether click and collect extends to their laptop repair service.

HeyBaby2020 · 07/11/2020 13:34

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother

I'm with you OP. The more people go out, the harder it will be to contain/stop this virus. The virus doesn't care why someone went out.
Fuck your lockdown
HeyBaby2020 · 07/11/2020 13:36

Worse things in life than bloody covid lol

thenightsky · 07/11/2020 13:43

@PurpleDaisies

I’ve been disappointed with Wilkinson’s lately. B and M has overtaken them as my cheapo shop of choice.
Yes, Wilko/Wilkinsons has got a bit expensive of late I've noticed. I'm a big B&M fan myself too.

However, Boyes beats everywhere else for me. It reminds me of the old Woolworths.

Vintagevixen · 07/11/2020 13:49

If you're going to get angry OP get angry for the following reasons:

  1. The government that outsourced test and trace to their mates, resulting in a failing system.
  1. The government that insisted on discharging the very vulnerable they were supposed to protect back to care homes to infect more vulnerable people they were supposed to protect.
  1. The government that is trying to repeat step 2 at present, with plans to discharge care home residents back again into so called Covid zones in care homes - which wont work (see point 5.)
  1. The government that has consistently underfunded the NHS and in particular critical care (I know as am an ICU nurse) beds over many years, reducing the capacity to cope EVERY winter.
  1. The government that got rid of bursaries for nurse training, hence contributing to the shortage of nurses, the same nurses and HCP's who are supposed to look after Covid patients and/or staff these so called Covid zones in care homes and critical care beds.
  1. The government who had no plan for when students returned to uni in September even though they had been pre warned that this was likely to be a super spreading event.
  1. The government who cant even wait to see if tier 1 - 3 restrictions work, who can't interpret figures or take advice from more than a narrow range of scientists, won't release relevant info for scrutiny but just rush us into a second lockdown, seem to believe in Neil Ferguson to the exclusion of all despite the fact he got death predictions wrong on foot and mouth, swine flu and others. Wont even do a simple analysis on the costs of lockdown (including non Covid excess deaths).

But instead you're getting angry at people going to the Range, keeping social distance and taking precautions, and blaming them?!

Exactly this. Word for word.

Quaagars · 07/11/2020 14:01

Fuck your lockdown

Don't hold back lol
Honestly, I'm sticking to the rules, but there IS NOTHING WRONG with going to the shops.
Just be sensible, wear your mask where poss, and do the social distancing thang.
No point stressing over trying to control others, that way smoke from ears happens.
Don't be a FUMMIN person.
I want it all to go away as much as everyone else, but all this pissing competitive martyrdom and misery is starting to reet get on me tits.
I think the very real impact on people's mental health all this is having is just as important too.

MadameBlobby · 07/11/2020 14:13

Excellent post @Vintagevixen

Iheartmysmart · 07/11/2020 14:21

Great post @Vintagevixen
Does anyone know if B&M sell knitting needles? Fancy knitting myself a tea cosy but can’t find my needles! I know I can get wool there but didn’t want to join a massive queue on the off chance.

MercyBooth · 07/11/2020 14:30

Fantastic post from @Vintagevixen Agree with every word.

SummerHouse · 07/11/2020 14:35

Well said indeed @vintagevixen

We are privileged to have you in our NHS.

OhDear2200 · 07/11/2020 14:38

@Vintagevixen 👍👍👍

I’m worried at how as a society we are turning on each other. It’s scary, where does it stop?

And conveniently it takes focus away from the massive mistakes being made by the government.

Vintagevixen · 07/11/2020 14:41

Yes the old divide and rule - its a classic tactic used for centuries.

Diverts attention away from the real causes and gets us all to blame each other.

Sigh.

Sigh.

How the government are treating us is the classic behaviour of a perpetrator in domestic abuse.

Blaming us for their cock ups
Refusing autonomy of action
Financial abuse - refusing to allow people to work and earn money
Gaslighting - with inaccurate and misleading graphs
Telling us one thing, then changing their minds - and blaming us.
etc etc

TheOrchidKiller · 07/11/2020 15:15

@Iheartmysmart
Ironically, you can buy knitting needles at... The Range. Smile

Iheartmysmart · 07/11/2020 15:19

@TheOrchidKiller I got some! Thank you! Murdered a few grannies on my travels.

WanderlustWitch · 07/11/2020 15:49

In case no one knows, Boyes is still open too and they definitely sell knitting needles and a lovely selection of wool and art/craft/stitching supplies.

WanderlustWitch · 07/11/2020 15:49

Also what @NannyGythaOgg said.

PurpleDaisies · 07/11/2020 15:50

I have never heard of Boyes...

dementedpixie · 07/11/2020 15:51

Nope never heard of Boyes either

TheGreatWave · 07/11/2020 15:56

@PurpleDaisies

I have never heard of Boyes...
Boyes is a golden northern secret.
thenightsky · 07/11/2020 15:56

Boyes is fab. As I said earlier, it is very much like the old Woolworth shops. I got a massive tub of Vanish White washing powder the other week for £5. Normally £12 in Tesco.
