FFS just because you CAN go to 'The Range' doesn't mean you should

Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

It's not the same as people just wondering around a warm shop fiddling with their mask because they are hot and sweaty and then touching an item they are looking at, etc etc!!!

So people magically don't get 'hot and sweaty' or 'fiddle with their masks' when 'wondering' (sic) around shops for arbitrarily defined 'essentials'?

I get why The Range is open - it’s a kind of ‘home improvement’ store and sells Christmas deccies so both positive for a November lockdown and people keep their jobs.

Everyone should go out and about freely obvs observing ‘hands, face, space’ and all that.

No need at all to be sarky and snarky towards OP - she has legitimate concerns about Covid and has lost loved ones (carer here - tested positive twice and bore witness to 30 god awful deaths - this is a fucking nasty disease - be warned).

So to conclude - nowt wrong with shopping a month before Christmas but observe those little petty rules pls - they DO make a difference xx🌈🙏

Im on maternity leave, my DP works very long hours out of the house and my older kids are at school. My baby classes have been cancelled. It's very lonely. If I want to go to a shop that is open then I will. This morning I went to home bargains for pet stuff and loved looking at the Xmas stuff whilst in there! I love their gingerbread candles they have at Xmas so I picked a few up (along with some other Xmas tat for my kids Xmas eve boxes) and I have them burning now. It has really cheered me up! I'm sick of people judging others for doing things you are allowed to do!

Writing in hybrid Shakespeare-Yoda speak does not an intelligent comment result.

If one had taken a sip of tea, spat it out one would have.

To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
Unless, perchance mine eye doth light upon some bauble
Some folly, some poor mans strumpet
Be gone thy cursed darkness Out out I say
Fot the Range o'er flowing with her bounteous fruitfulness
Doth beckon thee, poor fool.

Randomer, you are a genius!

If I spell this out very slowly, in short words: some people are less clever than other people. They need rules explaining several times. Wear your mask over your nose, not under it, and wash your hands at every opportunity. Talk to acquaintances from a distance.

I just eavesdropped my DS' university tutorial on an assignment. Dimmer students think university is a continuation of school spoonfeeding, with alcohol. Do learn to make coffee now.

Rabbitholebonkers · 06/11/2020 20:03

Sod the range.... B and M is open. I went the other day, now I didn’t need anything but that’s not the way B and M works. You go there, and B and M tells YOU what you need Grin.

FreshFreesias · 06/11/2020 20:04

@XingMing as you are much more intelligent than most people have you thought about applying to become a Covid Marshall? Then you would actually be paid to tell thicko people how to think.

And some people are more patronising than others.

You could not pay me my body weight in diamonds to get me to marshall anyone! But my comment was about the ability to hoist in information, not to follow instructions.

Why not? Given your penchant for listening in on your son's uni tutorials and for lecturing complete strangers on MN, it would seem you have a very dull and boring life. Wouldn't a bit of marshalling while away a few hours and take your mind off the alleged stupidity of others?
Covidiot · 06/11/2020 20:16

@IcedPurple you have just demonstrated @XingMing’s point beautifully

XingMing · 06/11/2020 20:17

If you all need to buy Christmas decorations at the Range, and it's open and legal, I don't have a problem with that. But I am not going to drive 80 miles to the nearest branch just to browse their aisles.

And with regard to my post about stupid above, it's about a university course, on which several students ask the same (rudimentary) questions every week to a lecturer (very patient, nearly saintly) who keeps reminding them that there are bullet points on a slide to refer to for guidance.

XingMing · 06/11/2020 20:24

IcedPurple, my son is doing a degree that is close to my own field, but as it's 40 years ago that I did mine, it's a rare privilege to be able to follow along, for free, with what has changed. I'm listening to what is being talked about, I don't engage or participate, but I do sometimes think that expecting 50% of the population to go to university is squandering resources on the ineducable. And, given that students have to pay their fees, an exercise in money-wasting.

small sacrifices like not going to Poundland or wherever for four weeks

What do you actually think will happen in 4 weeks? Covid disappears? Fuck all will happen, cases will rise again, but also more people will be depressed and out of a job. Lockdowns don't work, they just delay the inevitable and destroy the economy - which BTW will take off more life expectancy in the future. I'll be going out to B&M and Poundland daily to support the economy and not to sink into depression by sitting at home.

I only go to B & M to get shower gel but seem to never spend less than £20 for some reason. I love that place.

LOL, I love B&M. I went today and they had Chupa-Chups scented candles!
PinkPiranha11 · 06/11/2020 22:00

Ooh that’s reminded me, can’t wait to have a wander round Home Bargains next week. Thanks OP!

Nocto · 06/11/2020 22:19

I feel duty bound to report that Wilko is open, if anyone is interested. I had a good mooch there today.

PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2020 22:30

I’ve been disappointed with Wilkinson’s lately. B and M has overtaken them as my cheapo shop of choice.
