FFS just because you CAN go to 'The Range' doesn't mean you should

Nor any of the other shops unfairly dodging the lockdown closure by claiming they are essential (someone on another thread's, local shoe shop, local branch of Next) etc.

It's bloody ridiculous. The more we are out and about, the more this virus has a chance to keep spreading. Don't click and collect from your local business, place orders online from them or phone up and arrange delivery.

Just stop f**king going out. If you don't HAVE to go out for work, essential shopping - ie food or medicine, just stay at home.

If you don't, don't moan when bloody Boris is on our screens on 2nd December saying the lockdown is extended.

Just because you can type a goady, moany, guilt-tripping thread on the internet, doesn't mean you should.

It's what the internet is for surely?

And it's a thread born of frustration. Total and utter frustration at the stupid, selfish behaviour of people in the UK (as so beautifully demonstrated by poster on this thread).

If you lose a relative or friend or someone you know does, do remember that you were part of the body of people who felt going shopping was more important than contributing to the national effort to stop the spread of the virus Hmm. Really, do remember that.

Defo going to have a trip to the range at some point to have a browse of the Christmas decs. Thanks for the idea OP!

This lockdown isn’t going to work in the slightest, the virus is spreading because schools are open, everyone I know that has contracted the virus has been linked back to schools. But the kids need their education so we just need to get on with it. It’s just such a shame some businesses have been sacrificed in the meantime just so it looks like Boris is doing something,

ReneeRol · 05/11/2020 08:02

Misery loves company, I won't be joining you.

middleager · 05/11/2020 08:03

I read on another thread that retail staff are going in to manage click and collect.

You are advising against click and collect.

Surely, keeping businesses afloat and jobs retention is vital right now. Businesses rely on click and collect. It is a major lifeline to those businesses and offers job security. Why would you advocate for its removal when people's livelihoods depend on this?

fizzyp0p · 05/11/2020 08:03

Nah you're alright. I worked through the last one came in to contact with lots of people. Go out on long walks, pop to the shops for a chocolate bar only. And I shall continue to do so. Sometimes I went to the shops twice, before and after work. No mask, weren't required then.

ivfbeenbusy · 05/11/2020 08:03

People just aren't interested this time round. Death rates are low in almost every age group other than the over 80s, survival rates in ICU are twice that from March. Numbers of cases are up because we are testing more. If we don't treat this like just another flu then there'll be nothing left of our economy for decades.

Hyperbole! Covid is not the be all and end all.

It's four weeks. Not until the end of time. I have depression and anxiety AND I work in a local business so none of that cuts any muster/mustard with me.

For you, and anyone else like you posting, seek professional medical help from your GP.

Get outside and walk for at least an hour a day (in a green space).

Deux · 05/11/2020 08:05

Oh wow, thanks. Didn’t realise the Range was staying open. Smile. In fact it’d be useful to have a list of those shops that are open.

I’ll buy anything I like from any shop that can continue to trade. Season’s Greetings.

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 08:05

@Cassie71

Are Wilkos and Poundland open?
Yes.

I lost Mum in March (covid) and dad on Sunday (cancer), so you can take your "it's-all-your-own-fault" and shove it.
Torri67 · 05/11/2020 08:08

Well my vulnerable parents and parents in law who CAN'T go shopping or to the gym/cinema/collect their grandchildren from their after school clubs - hard to find a more entitled set of things some poor person is 'losing' Hmm - thank you all for your lack contribution. As do my friend who lost her FIL, my DH's colleague who lost a parent and and a grandparent in the space of a week.

So if I lose an elderly relative to the flu I should be angry that everyone didn’t get the flu jab?

The high drama OP. It’s laughable and just doesn’t reflect the actual reality

Anyways. Thank you. I didn’t know the range was open and now I do, I’m going to pop there to pick up some pegs!

NoParticularPattern · 05/11/2020 08:08

No one is making you go to the range. If you think it’s the source of all infections then feel free not to go. Personally I’ll be off to Homebase this weekend for compost. Otherwise the £80 of bulbs I have to plant (which I ordered 6 weeks before anyone even suggested a lockdown never mind announced one) will be wasted. So no, perhaps it’s not essential, but £80 is a lot of money to throw away just because someone on MN thinks I should. Oh and I need wallpaper paste. Look at me and all my unnecessary trips!

TicTacTwo · 05/11/2020 08:09

I think a lot of shops like the Range have installed fridges with milk precisely because they wanted to insure that they could stay open in case of lockdown.

I think a lot of people will shop as their exercise and the High Street needs shoppers, especially at this time of year. Not everyone can or wants to shop online.

You would be reasonable that people shop when it's quiet but you are unreasonable to say people shouldn't shop at all. Anybody tried the Costa Christmas drinks yet?

Iamagree · 05/11/2020 08:09

What's "The Range"? (misses point)

DC3Dakota · 05/11/2020 08:10

@Cassie71

Are Wilkos and Poundland open?
Yeah Smile
Comefromaway · 05/11/2020 08:10

If the government had put proper measures in place in schools and colleges and funded them then we wouldn't be in lockdown.

Torri67 · 05/11/2020 08:11

@trappedsincesundaymorn I am so sorry for your losses. Really I am.

My frustration is in those who care more about shopping than inadvertently causing such desperate pain to others by helping to perpetuate the virus.

Take care.

Home Bargains

The place that sells lots of rugs, but never quite the one you want.

jomaIone · 05/11/2020 08:12

No one is catching Covid on a quick trip to the range.

Deux · 05/11/2020 08:12

But that’s not the fault nor responsibility of the non-vulnerable. If your relatives can’t do these things, how are they going to be affected by someone going to the Range?Confused.

Or are you doing that thing whereby because you can’t have something you don’t want anyone else to have it either?
