I don't think it will go on past 2nd December. The Govt have already said areas will then go back into tiers which will obviously be determined by the rate of infections/hospital admissions & bed capacity for your area. This will clearly be determined by how compliant people are with the rules.

Our collective behaviour in our geographical areas will determine what tier we will be in 3rd December. Our future is in our own hands.

megletthesecond · 02/11/2020 07:03

Yes. They've made a right hash of it again.

If schools don't close or have much tighter measures in place then it'll trickle around schools and keep the R rate up.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/11/2020 07:04

Two or three weeks I reckon

You actually believe anything this government says?
ChristmasinJune · 02/11/2020 07:05

Yep!
I think they'll open all shops after that first month (possibly balancing that by putting some older years onto online learning) then all schools will close a week or two early for Christmas. Slight relaxation of social rules over Christmas week (back to the rule of six perhaps?) then as we are now again in January.
Hopefully then by Feb/March numbers will be low, rapid testing and the first vaccines will be in place and we can begin to gradually relax the restrictions until we're back where we were last July/August (hopefully without the local lockdowns).

BefuddledPerson · 02/11/2020 07:05

Yes. I'm so frustrated because if we'd had a decent circuit break including schools we might have squished it enough to get out in decent time.

But no, we'll limp on like this because Johnson can't make a clear decision.

I don’t think they can let retail stay closed during their busiest and most lucrative period. I think shops will open in December. Not sure about hospitality.

To think if he’d shut us down at start of October half term we would have been half way through almost. 🙄

hopeishere · 02/11/2020 07:09

Yes. But some loosening in December at Christmas. DS actually said about schools closing at Christmas for longer and I'd not thought about that but agree it probably will happen. Even just an extra week.

I'm in NI though so it will be interesting to see what happens here in two weeks.

BefuddledPerson · 02/11/2020 07:10

Johnson's whole policy is basically jam vaccine tomorrow.

Meanwhile the economy just gets more and more hammered.

If we'd locked down two weeks earlier at the very beginning we could be somewhere different now, because ultimately it's a numbers thing when chasing down cases for isolation.

I'm so frustrated.

And this second lockdown is again too little too late.

KatherineJaneway · 02/11/2020 07:11

Yes but it will ease for Christmas I think.

MiniTheMinx · 02/11/2020 07:19

I think schools will close first week of December. Other than that, not a clue. I don't trust them to make any rational decisions.

LastGoldenDaysOfSummer · 02/11/2020 07:19

Yes, unless they close schools and universities.

Jeremyironseverything · 02/11/2020 07:21

Of course it will. This might slow the growth, but due to schools, the numbers will still continue to grow.

Brazillio · 02/11/2020 07:22

Yes. They'll probably realise it isn't working and will need to be extended with schools included 😢

Classicbrunette · 02/11/2020 07:23

I don’t think Boris will want to be remembered as the pm who ruined Christmas. So it’ll be a normal Christmas and then the Intermittant lock downs carryon all around it. Stupid IMO. We should shut down for Xmas and into the new year. The whole thing is a farce. Don’t get me started 😡

Monty27 · 02/11/2020 07:26

I guess it depends on the skewed statistics.
They don't give a toss for small businesses getting their Christmas stock in. In fact they don't actually give a toss about anything or anyone except their fucked up economic strategies. Dickheads

BlueBrian · 02/11/2020 07:27

Of course the lockdown will go on longer, they're already dropping hints it won't be ended on Dec 2nd.

myrtilles · 02/11/2020 07:27

I expect the plan is to shut schools two weeks early for Christmas and have remote learning at that time. However I have heard of university students already coming home as they don’t want to be stuck on campus with no social activities or gyms etc. Therefore I think this lockdown will just make things worse economically without bringing down cases.

52andblue · 02/11/2020 07:27

Yes: until Easter, on and off.
I think we will have a longer Xmas School holiday, but then they will not open High Schools again after that.

Roselilly36 · 02/11/2020 07:28

Yes my guess would be, it will be lockdown extended until Xmas, Xmas & Boxing Day day off but still strict restrictions in place, back into lockdown until end of Jan, middle of feb as the earliest. Schools will be shut by middle or end of Nov. I hope I am wrong. Keep safe everyone.

Sweetchillijam · 02/11/2020 07:28

Yes, scary times especially with this idiot I’m alright Jack mentality I’ll take my chances with this virus attitude and no one is stopping me from doing X thats gained momentum since Dominic’s arsey entitled justifying rule breaking incident.
I think they will relax it 2 weeks before Christmas knowing many people will break it then anyway and it will kick off again blaming families have spread it to their nearest and dearest.

Lovemusic33 · 02/11/2020 07:30

Of course it will, we are locking down later than we did last time (numbers are higher), we are keeping schools and uni’s open so it’s going to take even longer to see any change in the numbers, 4 weeks is not enough when it took months last time. I think we will be in lockdown until at least January with some restrictions still in place until at least March.

Jeremyironseverything · 02/11/2020 07:33

How can they consider relaxing rules for Xmas and not other religions festivals?
They won't, but at the moment they are dangling Xmas as a carrot to get everyone to comply.

Timekeepspassing · 02/11/2020 07:36

Yes perhaps with a reverse ‘circuit breaker’ So lockdown until the two weeks around Xmas and new year where we will be allowed to mix more, hospitality etc open. Then after the two weeks it will be back to lockdown. Hope I’m wrong and while I love Xmas etc I would far rather have DS’s swimming lessons and baby groups back than a big family Xmas. It wouldn’t be the same but I would be happy with just us or a rule of 6 Xmas if I knew I could have those things back in the new year. I know others feel differently but I’d rather have things like leisure centres open (with all the SD, masks and limits etc) than a big blow out Xmas.

BawJaws · 02/11/2020 07:37

I’m thinking that the numbers will absolutely soar in a couple of weeks because of all the half term gallivanting

And they’ll be out from December
