Does anyone think lockdown will carry on past 2nd December round?

What @scaevola said. Lockdown until Christmas, a bit of time off for Christmas and new year then back to lockdown.

kezziethecat · 02/11/2020 06:00

Definitely. It's also being hinted at by so many politicians that I think it may even be in their plan.

Deelish75 · 02/11/2020 06:04

Also think lockdown until mid Dec, relaxing over Christmas and New Year (but big parties still banned) and then locked down again from early Jan, probably until late Feb/early March.

triceratops12 · 02/11/2020 06:04

Yep, I think they'll extend until 20th December and then lift it for Christmas back again in January. Schools to shut in December

TellerTuesday4EVA · 02/11/2020 06:12

Yes 100% without a shadow of doubt. I believe the first lockdown was always planned to last for 12 weeks, they just didn't come out and say that as they knew people wouldn't comply as readily.

midnightstar66 · 02/11/2020 06:16

Well yes but Gove has already said it's a possibility.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/11/2020 06:20

I have a strong feeling that non essential shops will open for December. But not the pubs, gyms etc. And maybe schools shut.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 02/11/2020 06:22

Yes. While they continue with the fiction that the spread in secondary schools and universities isn't problematic and needs no additional measures, there is no way the R will have come down enough in a month.
Please note I'm not recommending that secondary schools close, just a move away from the fiction that what is currently happening (i.e. not very much) stops the virus spreading.

JacobReesMogadishu · 02/11/2020 06:23

I think it’ll be at least 3 months.

doyawannabuildasnowmaaaaaaaan · 02/11/2020 06:23

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

Yes, and I think schools will close in December.
I also think this.
Doyouthinktheysaurus · 02/11/2020 06:26

Definitely. Cant see it lifting until Christmas and then only a partial lifting.
Also think schools will close at some point, keeping everything crossed ds1 gets his A level mocks and entrance exam out the way first......

teachcolate · 02/11/2020 06:29

I hope no. Economy will die. But realistically it may continue.

Dinocan · 02/11/2020 06:33

Yes, last time it was 6 weeks wasn’t it? So it will be at least that again I should imagine as we’re expected to see a bigger peak this time.

BreathyVoix · 02/11/2020 06:34

Si

MayFayre · 02/11/2020 06:36

Yes, but they’ll give it another name in December and change the parameters. Maybe allow non essential retail and churches to open but stop us meeting one other person for exercise?

whatswithtodaytoday · 02/11/2020 06:37

Yes, probably. I think they'll lift it for Christmas - maybe a week? But then NYE will have to be locked down or people will go crazy.

pussycatinboots · 02/11/2020 06:39

Yes.
And there will be one in Jan-Mar too.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 02/11/2020 06:43

Yes, probably until March but with a lifting of about a week around Christmas so people can spend it together, schools probably shut for about a month around Christmas, non essential retail will probably open up a bit though.

justanotherneighinparadise · 02/11/2020 06:44

if the high street shops can’t open for Christmas then just kiss goodbye to the high street basically. All of those retail jobs will be gone.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 02/11/2020 06:46

Yes, up until the spring

SushiGo · 02/11/2020 06:47

No, I think they'll loosen it for most areas on the 2nd dec to try and get shops/restaurants back open and some money in over Christmas.

Then everything will lockdown again on 1st january.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 02/11/2020 06:47

I would think that non essential retail will open up in December but closed down again in January/February.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 02/11/2020 06:56

Yep did I hear scientists predict it will take 5 week with schools open? My money is on 6 weeks.
Reckon 2 weeks with schools shut around half term would have been better but who knows?

PhilCornwall1 · 02/11/2020 06:57

@Dinocan

Yes, last time it was 6 weeks wasn’t it? So it will be at least that again I should imagine as we’re expected to see a bigger peak this time.
6 weeks? Think you need to look that up.
PhilCornwall1 · 02/11/2020 07:00

The lockdown will be as long as SAGE decides it will be. This whole crap will also be over when they decide it is.
