Here is my list. Will any/all these things be shut?

Swimming for adults? Club swimming for children? Tennis clubs for children?

OP posts:

Slimming world?

OrtamLeevz · 31/10/2020 23:08

@Ellmau

Afraid so.

*the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close. These include:

...

indoor and outdoor leisure facilities such as bowling alleys, leisure centres and gyms, sports facilities including swimming pools, golf courses and driving ranges, dance studios, stables and riding centres, soft play facilities, climbing walls and climbing centres, archery and shooting ranges, water and theme parks,*

Stables?

Er... the horses are going to look after themselves, are they? Take themselves out for exercise?

TheGriffle · 31/10/2020 23:08

Thank you, I had been looking but hadn’t seen them mentioned.

FortniteBoysMum · 31/10/2020 23:08

The bit where they said leisure industry will be closed indicates yes along with gyms bowling etc.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/10/2020 23:09

vets stayed open last time.

keiratwiceknightly · 31/10/2020 23:09

Driving tests??

Fink · 31/10/2020 23:10

Why about church services?

@Shieldingending, open for private prayer and funerals only, no other sevices. Clergy and staff can go in to livestream services.

Bishops are protesting it. It may change before Thursday.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 31/10/2020 23:12

@Plodder89 given its only high, very high or complex medium risk cases being seen face to face I'd imagine that will continue as essential for risk management, plus doorstep visits. Not sure about unpaid work. I used to work in probation (still work in a connected area) and still have lots of friends who do. Time to dig out that keyworker letter again....

PennyV13 · 31/10/2020 23:19

What about NT?

Beautiful3 · 31/10/2020 23:29

Opticians will still be open though, right? Hoping so.

Versace104 · 31/10/2020 23:30

Yeah I think so, opticians was open back in lockdown 1.

1stV45 · 31/10/2020 23:32

@Versace104

Yeah I think so, opticians was open back in lockdown 1.
Were they? Mine opened specially because I was in pain, they weren't doing routine checks.
Versace104 · 31/10/2020 23:34

Oh really ? My local specsavers was open throughout.

ineedaholidaynow · 31/10/2020 23:40

The garage where I take my car for service and MOT is also a showroom. Showrooms are on the closed list, do you think they will keep their service area open, I don't think they did in the first lockdown. MOTs are now due for both cars (both extended from last lockdown)

Beautiful3 · 31/10/2020 23:40

Thanks @Versace104 I hope so, I've just had my children's eyes tested and waiting for their glasses to be ready in a couple of weeks. They were due in march and I delayed it due to the lockdown.

PyongyangKipperbang · 31/10/2020 23:43

God forbid that the middle classes should have to lockdown like the rest of us scum.......

Cecillie · 31/10/2020 23:43

Vets stayed open last time but operated a very reduced service, under guidance from professional bodies. Basically open for emergencies only, so no vaccines, nail clips etc, just things that really couldn’t wait. Certainly this is what wales have gone back to so I expect it will be the same here.
So probably no cat shaving , sorry !

DelvingintoInsanity · 31/10/2020 23:46

@ineedaholidaynow My partner is a mechanic for a garage attached to a showroom. Last time when they were told to close the showroom they were allowed to keep the garage part open but the company chose to shut it all as they were losing so much money with the showrooms shut. So, I suppose it'll depend on the individual company whether they close the garage part or not. Not sure what my partners company will do this time, whether they'll try to keep the garage part open or not, but they had to make some redundancies after the last lockdown.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 31/10/2020 23:53

I couldn't see anything about outdoor markets? They were allowed to open when lockdown started to ease

BanditoShipman · 01/11/2020 00:22

Eh?
AuntieStella · 01/11/2020 07:36
@AuntieStella maybe becuase botanical gardens are not likely to have hot houses / glass houses?

I bloody love a botanical garden(s).
The gardens would just close the hothouses, and open only their gardens (but like NT places opening only their gardens.

It seems such an oddity to set it out in the way they did - making some gardens more equal than others, rather than stating that buildings must be closed.

borageforager · 01/11/2020 07:38

Only middle class people use vets, opticians and mechanics, obviously.

FlyingFlamingo · 01/11/2020 07:51

I’m in Wales so I don’t know if it’ll be the same but here playgrounds, parks (including the outside parts of our local botanical gardens, but not the national one which is more or a visitor attraction rather than just part of the park iyswim) vets, garages, post offices the market stalls that are ‘essential’ and opticians are open.

Dumps, indoor play areas, NT properties, libraries, swimming pools and Christmas tree farms (Hmm) are closed.

It’s fine, really, and we’ve had half term and torrential rain to accompany ours!

McDonald’s is open for takeaways I believe (I haven’t been in one since the first lockdown, dh fancied one a few weeks ago but then we found out they’d stopped offering any vegi options so they can whistle!)

Hermanfromguesswho · 01/11/2020 08:03

The ones I am wondering about are:
Private child therapists (Child sees them in therapists home)
Private tutors (in child’s own home)
Cleaner
Does anyone know if these can still continue??

BamboozledandBefuddled · 01/11/2020 08:13

Yes, they will all be allowed. The 'no mixing inside' rule is for socialising, not for working.
