AIBU to think those who are against this Lockdown only care about themselves?

The way back to a healthy economy, to saving lives, to normal NHS function, to normal schooling for our kids and normal lives for ourselves is by getting the virus firmly under control like they have done in Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

Lazy, negative defeatist people talk down our country and say it can't be done. If those other countries can do it, of course Britain can do it too.

Those of us who care about our country would stay positive and make the effort.

Would you?

I’m not in favour of Lockdowns. I want us to bring the virus down to very low levels using TTI like the countries who have low deaths, a small economic impact and no lockdowns

But having let it spread for months again I choose Lockdown over thousands of us dying every week for months

We should have followed Sweden. To begin with terrible deaths but then falling figures. We only have to look at Spain and Italy to see what lock down brings

You may prefer the deaths

Actually know only 2 people who have died of Covid but 8 people who have committed suicide because of lockdown and know at least one person who is hanging on by a thread and another who whilst not voicing concern I think is already planning her exit and so many people who can’t get treated because of Covid.
Yet Nightingale hospitals remained empty.

Dmil has had Covid, the same as the other residents in the care home. She like other people would prefer death to this lonely existence

Tootletum · 31/10/2020 18:05

I've been making the effort since March. I've seen almost nobody and gone nowhere. What was the fucking point?

Tier2Minus · 31/10/2020 18:06

@IcedPurple

Calum Semple says three to four times as many women as men in that age group (20-40) are ending up in hospital, and its growing.

Pretty misleading of you not to refer to the full quote, which says that women in this age group are contracting the virus more because they are exposed to it through their jobs in retail, hospitality and education. It's not because they are inherently more likely to get the disease.

Since you have said you are unemployed, your chances of contracting, let alone being hospitalised with, Covid are pretty slim. But nice try.

Like I said. It's not about me.

It's about what's best for our country.

As a single income household yes I am worried for myself. With already severe redundancies more lockdowns mean more redundancies and if that happens we will lose our house. That is a far scarier prospect than the virus.

It’s not just a case of stay safe at home when lockdown puts that home at risk.

On deaths per capita in Europe, the U.K. is 3rd. Sweden is 5th ahead of France and the Netherlands.

Op. Can you post a link to your 70 percent stat. I simoly can’t find it. Doesn’t seem any one else can either. I can only see the mid sept one which was for the light lock down like ten pm curfew etc?

Also by supporting the lock down you are supporting the path that leads to thousands of deaths. People die of other things and with operations and testing cancelled, as well as withdrawal of mental health, drug services, the death toll from other things is huge

It does seem you’re rather ill informed? Plus as you’re unemployed I guess you’re not in the boat of worrying about loosing your job etc, which many rely on to feed and house their families?

Oliversmumsarmy · 31/10/2020 18:11

Tootletum

Exactly.

We should maybe have had a few weeks to get a handle on the initial outbreak but then opened up during the summer.

We locked down for too long.

Hairwizard · 31/10/2020 18:12

Fuck yes!!!!

RaspberryCoulis · 31/10/2020 18:13

AIBU to think those who go on about lockdown being fanjollytastic and anyone who doesn't want lockdown is out to murder grannies needs to realise that for other people it's a living hell?

How are there still people out there who have learned NOTHING since March?

Tier2Minus · 31/10/2020 18:14

@IcedPurple

I question Lockdowns. No one wants one do they? It's hard on us all. Lockdowns are a failure to do what is needed to get the virus under control.

Some people do want lockdowns. You clearly appear to be one of them.

But right now, if I have to choose between a Lockdown that makes it difficult for me to get another job or thousands of British people dying every week, I choose for them to live.

Your description of the available options is incredibly simplistic and just plain wrong. I'm not sure there's any point discussing anything with you.

What would you do right now. instead?

Yes. I am worried for my MH. I'm worried about how I will care for my children . I worry about their education, MH and future. Sometimes being selfish isn't a bad thing.

I don't have the support network or finances for another lockdown. Perhaps those who are so set on one are equally being selfish for throwing those of us who are trapped under a bus. Protecting the vulnerable should not only include those vulnerable to the virus itself.

Thewithesarehere · 31/10/2020 18:15

All the posters like OP can fuck right off. I want to keep my job and a roof above my children’s head. So you can go fuck yourself.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2020 18:15

You could argue that people who want another lockdown only care about themselves too. Everyone will want what is best for their own family situation. Another lockdown would be awful for my family, and yes I do care more about them than I do strangers, as do we all. I make no apologies for that.

Welliesandpyjamas · 31/10/2020 18:15

I actually follow those daily yougov polls. OP, if you can look back through previous polls (not sure if poss?) you will find that a very significant % of respondents say they are unemployed. I can't remember the % now but I do recall that it was a HELL of a lot higher than their % of society. These polls are not the most representative of samples.

I don't personally feel the lockdown will reduce my family's chances of catching covid. DH will continue to go to his nursery job and be coughed and sneezed on. The 3 DC will continue to go to their schools and mix with other children, and by extension their families. I will be able to start working from home for a few weeks but then will have no choice but to return to the workplace. I feel we can't avoid it, despite doing all the right things and doing as we are told...if fate brings one of us in to contact with covid, then we get it 🤷🏻‍♀️ hopefully, we just get through it ok.

Tier2Minus · 31/10/2020 18:17

For me it's about saving the thousands of British lives first.

Then saving the NHS, our economy and our children's education next.

Lockdown is no way to manage a pandemic.

But at this point it's all we've got unless we want to watch thousands of British people die every week for the foreseeable.

Saving lives 🙄 we’re about to have a 10 year recession over an illness that 99% of the time kills people who are about to die. We’re about to have mass poverty / suicide. I take it your jobs safe OP? You are the selfish one.

We could get a grip and fight the virus properly. You never know.

Don’t be a fucking muppet.

Mumofsend · 31/10/2020 18:21

@tier2minus horse has well and truly bolted for that idea.

RaspberryCoulis · 31/10/2020 18:21

Some people very much DO want lockdown.

People working in the public sector, or those who know their job will be there regardless of what happens with the economy. Or who aren't working in the first place.

People whose children are too young for school, of who are

Oliversmumsarmy · 31/10/2020 18:21

What would you do right now. instead

Make mask wearing compulsory and just get on with things.

Oliversmumsarmy · 31/10/2020 18:23

Ultimately I think places like Sweden will end up with less deaths

Eng123 · 31/10/2020 18:24

Personally it's not a problem for me as I work from home now. But I appreciate it is a huge problem for others. I think we do need a lock down but we need to keep schools open and ensure that tangible help is given to those impacted.

Tier2Minus · 31/10/2020 18:24

I want what's best for my country.

I choose a month of Lockdown over thousands of British people dying every week and the NHS functionally collapsing.

You don't.

@Elle10x0 kills people who are about to die ? Funny that most of our patients with it are between 40-60 years old, and tell that to the family of the 41 year old with 2 kids and well controlled diabetes who died on my shift back in april..
