AIBU to think those who are against this Lockdown only care about themselves?

The way back to a healthy economy, to saving lives, to normal NHS function, to normal schooling for our kids and normal lives for ourselves is by getting the virus firmly under control like they have done in Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

Lazy, negative defeatist people talk down our country and say it can't be done. If those other countries can do it, of course Britain can do it too.

Those of us who care about our country would stay positive and make the effort.

Would you?

70%?? Really? This new lockdown won’t affect me financially at all as I’m a teacher but I’m desperately concerned about those whose income is being decimated by all this.

Your OP was is meaningless nonsense,

TheRuleofStix · 31/10/2020 16:58

Excuse typos.

Fizbosshoes · 31/10/2020 16:59

It's going to be tough for everyone - yes.
Will it affect some people more badly than others - also yes!
A friend of mine (public sector - can wfh) has told me a few times how much money shes saving by not going out and not going on holiday. Good for her. She seems unaware that's not the case for everyone.

@MaxNormal

You mean care about themselves in the sense of being terrified of losing their jobs and businesses, and not being able to pay their mortgages and keep a roof over their heads? What a stupid fucking post.
Yep.
StatisticalSense · 31/10/2020 17:00

You would have to be extremely selfish to want this kind of lockdown. Fucking up the economy while keeping the major sources of spread open is pointless unless your aim is to increase dependancy on the state in the long term while at the same time allowing many thousands to die.

MummyPop00 · 31/10/2020 17:03

I hope the 70% are willing to be taxed accordingly to pay for the 30%. After all, there’s clearly plenty of you. Maybe you could sign a declaration to this effect or something then we can all support lockdown.

PicsInRed · 31/10/2020 17:04

I think those wide eyed, and braying for lockdown are either terrified for themselves/family due to severe health issues ... or utterly and willfully thick.

Only you will know into which category you fall.

IHTC · 31/10/2020 17:05

Jesus Christ, what a c*ntish post.

Must be a fab view from your ivory tower OP.

Tier2Minus · 31/10/2020 17:05

@Bluntness100

I also think it’s the opposite peoole who are against this are worried about the bigger pic

Where did you get the seventy percent stat, can you link to it please? I’d have said it was more likely seventy percent against it.

As a pp said, people are now worried the cure is worse than the disease.

Agree with @cologne4711

willowywillow · 31/10/2020 17:07

Could be either. People have different priorities. Personally, I'm quite happy about a lockdown but I can see why other people are not and very worried about the prospect. However, I think it would be disingenuous of me to pretend I was not in a position where I can cope with a lockdown I can. I think that not acknowledging my own amount of privilege in this respect would minimise other people's hardship. So I am honest and don't pretend it is worse for me than it is.

TheGinGenie · 31/10/2020 17:10

70% of the people surveyed by YouGov is not 70% of the country, OP

sashagabadon · 31/10/2020 17:12

I could argue it either way

sashagabadon · 31/10/2020 17:16

I think you gov is biased towards younger people and those that work using computers who can sit at their work desk answering surveys. They do not tend to canvas the views of manual working class jobs as much.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 31/10/2020 17:18

I care about myself, my family and many others in my position.

Considering the government resents feeding children, I’m sure they aren’t going to be happy feeding the millions of individuals losing their jobs.

I'm not in favour of Lockdowns. I want us to bring the virus down to very low levels using TTI like the countries who have low deaths, a small economic impact and no lockdowns.

But having let it spread for months again I choose Lockdown over thousands of us dying every week for months.

You may prefer the deaths.

I was all for it the first time. The whole letting people go on holiday and go to pubs thing has fucked me right off (the one near me has everyone with the arms around each other outside). We paying for it now.

ReplacementPlasticUterus · 31/10/2020 17:23

How rough is it going to be on you OP?

Because it's going to be fucking rough on my family when we run out of money and can't pay the mortgage or the bills.

GhostsUpMePosts · 31/10/2020 17:24

@FourTeaFallOut

Oh for god's sake is any of this shit necessary? Nobody on MN is making these decision, you are just seeding further division and resentment. This slandering of people who think differently to you needs to end. Both sides need to turn the vitriol down.
Amen to this.

The whole thread is deeply irresponsible.

2020hasbeenbloodyawful · 31/10/2020 17:24

I’ve lost my job in the first lockdown. In the second we’ll lose our home.

I cannot find an adequate paying job to afford our mortgage and bills. DH is frontline emergency services and he has been worked to the bone since March. A second lock down will ruin us.

My Mum is a widow with health complications. Will she die alone because we can’t see her?

Fuck Covid. Fuck this shambles of a government and fuck goady people like you OP.

Covid is the 19th biggest killer in the UK. What about the eighteen other illnesses?

ILoveAnOwl · 31/10/2020 17:25

Yup, I'm so fucking selfish wanting to keep my house, heat it and feed my children. Truely, I'm a self centred monster...

IcedPurple · 31/10/2020 17:26

How do you make a living OP? Is it going to be affected by any upcoming lockdown?

PicsInRed · 31/10/2020 17:29

You may prefer the deaths.

You got it buddy, I'm the grim reaper writ large.

The madness of crowds. 🤔
