Can I go on holiday to the Canaries if there’s a lockdown?

DH and I along with my DM booked to go to Tenerife when the canaries were removed from the quarantine list. Our trip isn’t for a fortnight and now waking up to the news another National lockdown is likely??! We booked in the knowledge that even in Tier 3 we could have travelled abroad but now don’t know what will be permitted??!!

I don’t need a load of judgement about booking a hol either - DM is fully isolated and has been for months but is fit and well and we are both WFH and had planned online shop etc and basically 2 weeks self imposed quarantine prior to trip (so starting today).

Arghhhh - can anyone help?

I think you are still allowed to go.

I think I heard on Radio 4 thursday evening (The Bottom Line) that 1/2 of the cases in the UK coming into autumn were from people who travelled to Spain over the summer and didn't quarantine when they got home.

Youngatheart00 · 31/10/2020 10:29

Currently there is no quarantine in place for the canaries, but obviously if there was we would respect that. Question will be are the flights going, and will the canaries accept Brits I guess!!

You are still allowed to go, but it’s bloody ridiculous that you can. Anyone doing so is incredible irresponsible IMO.

Coffeeandcrumpet · 31/10/2020 10:33

You probably can but to be it would be bloody irresponsible! Although probably no more irresponsible than booking a holiday when you are in a teir 3 area anyway. No wonder we are in the state we are.

Hoppinggreen · 31/10/2020 10:34

Yes I think you can

Youngatheart00 · 31/10/2020 10:38

I’m not in tier 3 currently. I’m in tier 1!!!!! I checked the restrictions as a contingency in case (in the 2.5 weeks between booking and going) we moved up the tiers.

Completely agree, it seems so farcical that we are in this position, but people can still travel freely abroad!

I completely agree. Let’s close restaurants and gyms which have gone out of their way to have safety restrictions in place, but let people fly in and out if the country on holiday, ffsAngry.
MrsEricBana · 31/10/2020 11:14

It's probably not a good plan though is it. I don't mean that in a snarky way BTW, but logically it can't be the right thing to do whether you "are allowed to" or not.

3littlewords · 31/10/2020 11:18

Yes you should still be able to go. Don't know if you are aware but the canaries have announced that everyone over age 6 needs a covid test within 72 hours before arriving, hotels won't let you check in without it .

3littlewords · 31/10/2020 11:18

Think that starts within the next couple of weeks

Versace104 · 31/10/2020 11:19

I'd go if I were you for sure, get out of this lockdown mess for a bit.

Branleuse · 31/10/2020 11:23

Can you move it to sooner?

From the 16th November covid tests are required

Delatron · 31/10/2020 11:28

I’d go if I were you! Get away while you can. I don’t think it’s irresponsible at all. There are things we are allowed to do and things we are not. It will be good to get some vitamin D.

Why should people stop doing things that are allowed? There’s so much we can’t actually do. Enjoy your family holiday.

Just do what you want.

Yes, the Canaries will most likely continue to anele Brits (from what I understand of their general policy)

DamitJanet · 31/10/2020 11:36

I’d imagine travel will still be permitted if we go into lockdown. The restrictions all the way through have been pretty lax when it comes to movement around the country and abroad and I doubt that’ll change, although in my opinion it should.

Yes it is somewhat irresponsible as op may take Covid to the Canaries (which are doing so much better than us)

That’s not currently the case
Aridane · 31/10/2020 11:41

@Youngatheart00 - are you booked with TUI or Jet2? If so, they will cancel and refund if the government advises against non essential travel

3littlewords · 31/10/2020 11:41

@Aridane see my further link it comes in on the 16th November
