Can I go on holiday to the Canaries if there’s a lockdown?

DH and I along with my DM booked to go to Tenerife when the canaries were removed from the quarantine list. Our trip isn’t for a fortnight and now waking up to the news another National lockdown is likely??! We booked in the knowledge that even in Tier 3 we could have travelled abroad but now don’t know what will be permitted??!!

I don’t need a load of judgement about booking a hol either - DM is fully isolated and has been for months but is fit and well and we are both WFH and had planned online shop etc and basically 2 weeks self imposed quarantine prior to trip (so starting today).

Arghhhh - can anyone help?

@Nicknacky

So all the posters that are screaming about how irresponsible the OP is being, when in your opinion can people travel abroad?
Either after they've been fully vaccinated, or at the end of the pandemic.

@TrustTheGeneGenie

It's not obvious at all is it. One strain might just replace another it doesn't necessarily mean if nobody had gone to Spain we'd be 80% better off.
Except that this strain is more contagious than the previous ones.
ballsdeep · 01/11/2020 10:31

@LadyPenelope68

You are still allowed to go, but it’s bloody ridiculous that you can. Anyone doing so is incredible irresponsible IMO.
Completely agree with you. It's ridiculous the amount of threads asking about holidays!
Alondra · 01/11/2020 10:44

Except that this strain is more contagious than the previous ones.

This is a lie. In fact, the article claiming the current strain in the UK is from Spain has not been peer reviewed. Neither has been claimed to be more contagious.

Please provide a link.

International travel only for work I think.

Muranoandizumi · 01/11/2020 10:46

If I had the money I would honestly go abroad now to live in a country where there are hardly any cases/no lockdown until this is all over !

EminyBOO · 01/11/2020 10:53

If we banned holidays for 2 years as some are suggesting, deaths from poverty of people who would normally rely on tourism for income will be significantly higher than COVID deaths.

Youngatheart00 · 01/11/2020 10:57

Agree @EminyBOO and that’s why it’s all about balance. Everything in life comes with some risk and so if you are following government guidance it’s reasonable to believe you are not take unnecessary risk or acting irresponsibly. And for every action, there is an opposite, as you point out. Such a dire situation.

Just stay home.

GADDay · 01/11/2020 11:00

@EminyBOO thats what they have done here in Australia. Sadly devastating for the travel industry, however, very effective in curtailing the virus. Thus saving many many other industries - retail, hospitality, beauty services to name a few.

ODFOx · 01/11/2020 11:03

The strain currently spreading through Liverpool has been traced to one which appeared from Spain over the summer. It didn't swim here on its own so must have been brought he back by a safe tourist.
Just stay home.

5lilducks · 01/11/2020 11:06

"Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes."

So I would have thought that's a no.

CovidAnni · 01/11/2020 11:09

@Aridane and others who think o called them morons, I said
“The moron comment was to the poster who claims she’s not had covid and not passed it on to anyone else.
No one can say that

Aridane · 01/11/2020 11:24

We know that, @CovidAnni - but the implications anyway is were morons or cunts. (Days this cunty moron)
