The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss do schools have the highest number at the moment? Is research showing that's where most of the spread is occurring?

Familyband · 31/10/2020 12:51

@Parker231 where have you seen this?

Appuskidu · 31/10/2020 12:51

I don't see the point of doing this is schools and universities are still open.

Because education and health are so very important!

That's why countries are locking down, in order for hospitals and schools to stay open.

Parker231 · 31/10/2020 12:53

@Familyband - the tv news stations have all reported it on Twitter

justasking111 · 31/10/2020 12:53

They will keep schools open because the transmission rates are something the NHS can cope with, as long as families keep vulnerable relatives away. We cannot stop the virus just strangle the rate at which we catch it and recover.

Glitterynails · 31/10/2020 12:54

@justasking111 what about vulnerable school staff?

justasking111 · 31/10/2020 12:55

@Appuskidu well they are lying about hospital transmissions, in Wales we have killed of a couple of dozen people in Rhondda who went into hospital with something else and died of covid much further down the road into their stay, something the welsh government has admitted.

Sonnenscheins · 31/10/2020 12:56

Exactly. Kids will all catch the virus eventually. We're closing down parts of the economy so that our schools and hospitals can manage.

Glitterynails · 31/10/2020 12:57

@justasking111
On the other hand I know someone who died in hospital of Covid and had no underlying health conditions but died in intensive care after 6 weeks since their positive test so they don’t count as a covid death. Damn statistics!

justasking111 · 31/10/2020 12:58

@Appuskidu if you believe that pie chart, read this.

And vulnerable parents

Familyband · 31/10/2020 12:58

@Parker231 I can't see anything on BBC, Sky or ITV Twitter?

Glitterynails · 31/10/2020 12:59

@Sonnenscheins are vulnerable school staff just collateral damage then?

Appuskidu · 31/10/2020 12:59

How do you keep vulnerable family members away? They might live with the child? The child’s parents might be carers for the vulnerable person. The vulnerable person might be a teacher, TA or support staff who is in school full time every day.
Sonnenscheins · 31/10/2020 13:00

@Sonnenscheins are vulnerable school staff just collateral damage then?

Of course vulnerable pupils and staff need the option to stay at home and be supported.

Bbq1 · 31/10/2020 13:00

@alex09sam06

I think it's horrendous that the government are saying that schools stay open during this next national lockdown. Wondered if I should go against this and keep my children at home whilst this virus is extremely bad. At least they'll be safe out of the way of this. They can do school work online. There has already been reports of children with the Coronavirus in our local secondary school where my child goes. As we know, this can be passed onto others. Surely we have the human right to keep our children safe. In this case away from the Coronavirus.
Yes But teaching staff don't have the right to keep themselves or their own children safe so schools will stay open
Parker231 · 31/10/2020 13:01

PM press conference

Boris Johnson to hold press conference at 4pm to discuss new curbs to tackle coronavirus.

He will be joined by chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty and chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance.

Well, they don’t have this option currently.

Sonnenscheins · 31/10/2020 13:03

Well, they don’t have this option currently.

I very much hope they get that option.

Oh God, here we go again. I think they should close schools and keep pubs/restaurants open.

I very much hope so too.
justasking111 · 31/10/2020 13:05

@Appuskidu lot of mights there...

This government statistics might think are acceptable risks.

SamsMumsCateracts · 31/10/2020 13:06

I can' see how it will work with the schools remaining open. The school run has proven that many parent's won't follow the rules. They are still grouping together in big crowds, allowing their children to mix with those in other year groups, refusing to wear masks on site, despite being asked to, standing in very close proximity with groups of friends, etc etc. There has been no social distancing adhered to at pick up and drop off at most of the schools I know. The lockdown will seem completely pointless if the schools stay open as they are now, with hundreds of families mixing at the school gates of every primary school twice a day.
