The Times is reporting that we are headed for a month long lockdown until Dec 1st.
No details yet...
Why do they always announce things on the drip feed - makes it all even more stressful

Hardly a lockdown if schools and non essential shops are open, half the country will be out Christmas shopping. Sound like just the leisure industry and maybe stuff like hairdressers closing.

DC3Dakota · 31/10/2020 05:29

@kittensarecute

I'm done. This is obviously how life is going to be forever, what's the fucking point anymore I don't want to be here anymore
Me either
RedRiverShore · 31/10/2020 05:30

It looks like non essential shops will close, never mind, I imagine Amazons Black Friday sale will still go ahead.

SD1978 · 31/10/2020 05:56

I don't understand further lock downs. Elimination can't and won't work. This has been done, and it's still back. A different strategy is needed. Those who are vulnerable are supported in furlough and shielding, and those who want to continue with social distancing and masks are allowed to do so. Lockdowns don't deal with it.

Our "extremely intelligent leader" Hmm told us why this wouldn't work a couple of weeks ago, when he was prattling on about how his wonderful Tier system was the way out of this.

maddiemookins16mum · 31/10/2020 06:20

Good but you only need to read MN to see no devil will stay at home.

speakout · 31/10/2020 06:23

I thought it was an English lockdown?

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/10/2020 06:27

Long as they keep primaries open I couldn’t care less.

Onadifferentuniverse · 31/10/2020 06:33

I don’t understand the point of destroying the economy further and putting people out of work whilst schools remain open.

It doesn’t make any sense.

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/10/2020 06:35

The economy is absolutely fucked in the western world. If your already trillions of pounds in debt you may as well keep adding some billions on top.

speakout · 31/10/2020 06:39

No change for many parts of the UK.
Many of us have been living in lockdown for 3 weeks.

hellisotherpeopleandhorlicks · 31/10/2020 06:40

Does anyone know if what's been leaked includes childcare bubbles or would they not be allowed anymore? This is going to be an utter nightmare again if not

Dumpypumpy · 31/10/2020 06:45

Will they bring back the old furlough scheme during another lockdown because the new scheme means 20% of hours need to be worked, but that will be impossible during a lockdown for the business i work in.(we cant fully close either due to being an essential service )

Threeweirdsisters · 31/10/2020 06:45

Those who are questioning this - have you read the reports? The nhs will be completely overwhelmed if this doesn’t happen, it will collapse. The only question is whether (secondary) schools should be closed too.

It’s just not up for debate - otherwise BJ wouldn’t do it (he has no genuine integrity whatsoever). They should have done it weeks ago. It’s on track for 4000 deaths a day, people need to understand where things are heading and comply. But maybe they won’t until it’s too late (which it already is very sadly) Sad

At the point where we give up on educating the children is when we give up on the future of country.

Ain’t that the truth!!!!!
ACanOfBeans · 31/10/2020 06:52

Is anyone even going to take the ‘lockdown’ seriously if schools remain open? I don’t think it will be very effective keeping them open even if people do take it seriously.

Jroseforever · 31/10/2020 06:55

As long as school remain open
Relaxed here

For me - if my children are attending school and happy and thriving, then the world can be as chaotic and odd as ever before.

Your opinion confirms precisely why education is so important.
Bedsheets4knickers · 31/10/2020 06:58

Isn't it pretty much how we are all living anyway ?

Dhalia443 · 31/10/2020 07:02

They knew this was coming so I’ve no idea why they haven’t organised some standardised teaching online. Broadcast it on TV / on line for each year group and have the teachers support that.

I think it would at least ensure that the curriculum was taught. Not ideal for differentiating ability, but stretch work could be included.

Our school was crap during the last lockdown...with pages to print and too much parental involvement.

Chaotic45 · 31/10/2020 07:02

This:
At the point where we give up on educating the children is when we give up on the future of country.

Absolutely spot on.

They can't insist exams go ahead whilst closing schools.

IMO university is a different matter. But given that they opened them up and infection rates soared amongst the student population hoe on earth can they close them and send students home whilst potentially harbouring coronavirus?

What a gigantic mess!

pastandpresent · 31/10/2020 07:03

I live in the area where there is no case. But I agree if they enforce nationwide lock down, then the school should be closed too. Half heated lockdown never work.

Chaotic45 · 31/10/2020 07:06

@Dhalia443 yes absolutely you are spot on!

It's way from an ideal solution, but a fantastic work around to what we had before!

Pooling of resources in this way would be sensible and a million miles better than the teaching provided by our secondary last time.

Why not have the best minds and most inspirational people doing this? Attenborough for biology, Cox for physics....

Parker231 · 31/10/2020 07:06

If schools close , primary, there will be no economy as parents won’t be working as they will have to stay at home with their DC’s. Schools need to remain open. Teachers teach and parents parent.
