With a link to the previous header for all the great links to data -

And with a polite plea to keep the focus on data and analysis if you please.

thanks all

People at risk of blood clots are usually contra indicated for asipirin?

Piggywaspushed · 05/11/2020 08:29

aspirin.

cathyandclare · 05/11/2020 08:43

Aspirin is an anti platelet medication, so reduces clotting. It can be used in antiphospholipid syndrome:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/antiphospholipid-syndrome/treatment/

People with blood clots who are on anticoagulants usually should avoid aspirin because it can increase the risk of bleeding.

One of @RP131 latest graphs comparing actual cases with the 7 day doubling scenario shown in the presser:

I had blood pressure problems and pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy and was prescribed low dose aspirin for the whole of my second. Apparently in can reduce the risk of pre eclampsia by increasing blood flow through the placenta.

Piggywaspushed · 05/11/2020 10:24

Yes, I had pre eclampsia too. Those on warfarin and people with heart conditions are not allowed aspirin. I guess because it thins the blood too much?

cathyandclare · 05/11/2020 10:33

Yes. People with many heart conditions can have aspirin, just not if they're on anticoagulants.

sirfredfredgeorge · 05/11/2020 10:35

In true lock down tradition, we get to listen to Boris drone on again at 5pm...

Cattermole · 05/11/2020 10:45

Nah I'm good for that thanks @sirfredfredgeorge.
In the spirit of data collection, I'd be interested to see how many people switch off rather than on....
(Anyway, I imagine anything he has to say will be leaked by about lunchtime, which will save me the trouble of having to listen to the wretch.)

Sunshinegirl82 · 05/11/2020 10:48

I hope they've actually got something to tell us!

sirfredfredgeorge · 05/11/2020 11:23

Boris seems to be accompanied with an NHS bod, so it's either bed capacity or "please keep visiting for other procedures", or it's announcing the sale to Amazon.

ancientgran · 05/11/2020 11:25

I can't decide who is more unbearable to listen to, Boris or Trump? I think it depends on which one is speaking.

cathyandclare · 05/11/2020 11:27

Some slight improvement in testing turnaround this week- >25% in less than 24 hours, >60% by the next day. Still not great.

Only reaching 60% of contacts though- no real improvement there.

TheSunIsStillShining · 05/11/2020 12:32

I need a sanity check.

In spring europe could hardly reign in the virus. Had to close schools, shops, bars, almost everything. Travel halted.

Was/Is it just glaringly obvious to me that if we remove the above parameters (school + travel mostly) the numbers will soar again?

Countries that have done well in the first round, eastern europe and scandi, are no seeing massive numbers. What were they expecting??

I really don't think you had to be Cassandra to see this coming.
Can someone explain why the whole shitshow is happening again as if it was the first time?

HoldingTight · 05/11/2020 12:49

I really, really wish BCF would come back 😢

Sunshinegirl82 · 05/11/2020 13:00

Well the furlough announcement explains the PM's conference tonight!

CoffeeandCroissant · 05/11/2020 13:47

Office for Statistics Regulation have released a statement on use of data by governments across the UK as part of their communications on the Covid-19 pandemic. osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/news/osr-statement-regarding-transparency-of-data-related-to-covid-19/

Yep me too. Does anyone know if BCF is posting on another site?
CoffeeandCroissant · 05/11/2020 14:21

North East and Yorkshire becomes first of the seven NHS England regions to record a greater number of covid patients than in the first wave: hsj.co.uk/acute-care/north-east-and-yorkshire-becomes-first-region-to-exceed-first-wave-covid-bed-occupancy/7028576.article? (by way of contrast London is at 20% of 1st wave).
Source: HSJ (but article is paywalled).

MRex · 05/11/2020 14:21

New dashboard design in place now rather than just in the experimental version. It looks nice, though NHS region just "London" in healthcare disguises the variation within regions

DownWhichOfLate · 05/11/2020 14:29

Another hoping BCF will come back. Or be found elsewhere.

That's a sensible statement. I really think the government did itself no favours with its most recent data presentation.

cathyandclare · 05/11/2020 14:49

Agreed, I thought Theresa May spoke very well on the subject in Parliament yesterday.

CoffeeandCroissant · 05/11/2020 14:52

@Sunshinegirl82

Agreed, both the way the data is communicated by the government and the transparency need to be massively improved.

Cattermole · 05/11/2020 16:03

Oh hey "technical difficulties" again, on the very afternoon the PM is going to do another presser.
Mmm.
If you pull the other one, it jingles....
