Thought I'd make a thread for those of us who just tested positive within the last week to help each other through our covid journeys Halloween Smile

Morning all. My headache is back and I feel slightly breathless. Nothing making me worry too much though. Also very bunged up in my nose, which isn't helping the breathing. Day 9 for me too I think.
Felt loads better yesterday, and, despite everything I've read, probably overdid it and crashed in the afternoon Hmm

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 10:31

@cherrytreeblossom I started taking spatone a while ago after struggling to recover from a virus. I may have got better anyway but I felt it helped me a lot. Something to try?

Smelliethenelephant · 07/11/2020 10:54

Day 8 here and the cough has started. Aches and pains have gone but i feel breathless. Pulse oximeter reading was down this morning which is making me feel quite anxious althougn I did bring it back up with deep breathing. The stress and anxiety is almost the worst part for me.

yarncakes · 07/11/2020 11:00

Got tested yesterday. Still waiting on results. I have a sore head, blocked nose, sore throat, ear ache and my whole body has been aching with mild fatigue. I had these symptoms before though and 2 COVID tests showed negative results (it must've been a cold at that time) but I have had contact (not close) with staff who have tested positive so there's a higher probability that I may have it this time. I hope I don't though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 11:29

I tested positive, symptoms started Wednesday and positive result yesterday. I think so far I've got off quite lightly but today I do feel absolutely wrung out. It's a bit like the creeping body rot isn't it? I feel like I'm getting all the symptoms, just a bit, coming and going all the time, anyone else getting this? So eg, head hurts for half an hour, then stiff neck, then feel really confused and brain foggy, then aching legs, then freezing cold. Then feel fine, then feel like death warmed up. All in rotation!

No cough. I did lose my sense of smell on weds, but it has returned to some extent although it's patchy. I feel like I can only smell certain 'notes' of the smells?

I'm determined to rest today and tomorrow because I've been working from home last week and will continue to do so next week and it's pretty relentless. I work in school admin and I have my office phone connected so I've been basically on the switchboards for 3 days, and homeschooling my own kids

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 11:41

@ScottishDream I have that powdery feeling, I described it as I feel like my whole nasal cavity is numb and chalky. The inside of my nose really burned the first two days before my symptoms and I didn't connect it; that's now spread into my whole sinus, nostril, mouth. I described it as like having a head cold but not actually the cold symptoms, or like when you have strepsils but not the taste, just the numbness

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 11:47

I've now read the whole thread, it's really reassuring to know you're all getting through it gradually. It's amazing how many of us are having the same, random, not really publicised symptoms. It is no wonder it's spreading so fast, I think people expect you'll be burning up and coughing a lung up. I genuinely would have battled into work this week with 'just a cold'

SheilaTakeABow · 07/11/2020 12:12

@thenewaveragebear1983, it's absolutely crackers. I really don't understand why the other symptoms aren't more widely publicized, or why you're unable to get a test without the big three. Surely it's in everyone's interests to test and therefore quarantine anyone who thinks they may have it, rather than them assuming it's not it and merrily carrying on their business Confused
@Smelliethenelephant, I've found proper breathing really helpful. Like you, I'm on day 8 (maybe 9) and I feel it's starting to affect my chest, but the oximeter keeps my panic in check.
Hope everyone gets a restful weekend Brew

alpinia · 07/11/2020 12:28

@cherrytreeblossom try not to panic. It's absolutely awful if you are one of the people who doesn't have the flu like symptoms and fast recovery. Personally I went downhill from day 14 following very mild cold symptoms before that.

One thing I'd suggest is don't be afraid to contact your GP. I was eventually put on steroids taken in just about every way possible. It was really the turning point for me and I slowly improved after that. Just because you aren't ill enough to be hospitalized doesn't mean there aren't treatments that can help you.

incognitomum · 07/11/2020 12:43

I tested positive today.

I had symptoms but no sense of smell was the strongest decider.

BloomedAgain · 07/11/2020 13:43

Just got the test results. Positive as expected. Still on and off fever but less so. Short of breath but oxygen level ok. I'll see if I can monitor my blood pressure too. Now back to bed.

BloomedAgain · 07/11/2020 13:51

@thenewaveragebear1983 I agree on the random waves of symptoms. One moment I'm better, the next I can't stand up.
They do need to update the symptoms list: i had a headache for a few days before the fever.

BloomedAgain · 07/11/2020 13:52

I'll try to find some youtube breathing exercises.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 14:06

Apparently as well gastric issues are one of the most common symptoms in children, and aching/painful testicles in men, so you may notice these in your partners/children. These are both on the 'testing list' in Spain and some other euro countries, but not here

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 14:45

I’m so bored of being stuck in the house. Not entirely looking forward to work on Monday, I’ll be teaching all day and it’s difficult to prep for when you’ve not been in for two weeks.

I just feel sorry for my perfectly healthy children, who are bouncing off the walls. And they can’t go out until Friday!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 15:25

I suppose that's a sign you're feeling a bit better though @ScottishDream ? If you're getting bored?
I feel crap today, really washed out. I have only done 750 steps (my normal is 14/15000 a day) and I'm just sat in bed with the kitten tidying up my work files, deleting ancient emails, and just generally clearing a backlog of stuff from the last few weeks. I genuinely couldn't go out if I tried I think

Who'd believe two weeks ago I ran 2 half marathons in a week?!

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 16:42

I can't believe it. My dad came over today to drop some cakes off (from a distance obviously)
I asked him how he was... "oh, I've had a bit of a headache this week and feel a bit sinus-y and run down. I think I'm losing my sense of smell" I asked him if he had a covid test, and he said as he wasn't coughing and didn't have a high temperature he didn't need to. Never mind that I had a positive test and saw him Thursday morning when I tested positive on the Saturday.

I hope he doesn't have it, but if he does he's been going round shops etc as normal.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/11/2020 16:52

@ScottishDream will he do one now do you think?

I was saying to dh last night that the biggest mistake in the whole thing has been letting people believe it's deathly serious. The media being flooded with horror stories. It's people like us (young, fit, healthy) who are the real dangers here. Those who retreat to bed with every cough and cold aren't the problem, it's the ones who battle on who are out there spreading it and couple that with the lack of information about the symptoms you can expect, it's really dangerous

DialsMavis · 07/11/2020 19:32

Hi everyone,
Sorry to hear that you all feel poorly.
Was anyone excessively thirsty at first? I haven't been able to drink enough since yesterday evening! I woke up at 4am with a really sore stomach and thought I was going to be sick, was laying on landing floor boiling/freezing. Today I just feel wiped out with a very thickly throat and think sense of taste might be reducing but don't know if I'm being paranoid

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 20:20

@thenewaveragebear1983 I told him he needed to. Whether he will or not I don't know.

@DialsMavis Not so much thirsty as I felt horribly dry in my sinuses. Lots of icy cold water seemed to help a lot.

I'm feeling a bit run down and rough again, but this part of the day is always the worst. Cup of herbal tea and then bed for me soon.

PrivateD00r · 07/11/2020 20:39

Scottish you definitely sound to be doing very well!

I am also day 9 but unfortunately still have a temp of 38.5 so won't be able to stop isolating on Monday. Last night was my worst night yet, with reduced sats and high temp, literally couldn't get up out of bed. Today was similar but I feel a little better this evening. This is by far the most unwell I have ever been - worse than flu!

It is amazing how differently we are all experiencing this thing.

I have had all of the 'big three' symptoms, but for me, the most distressing symptoms are nausea, shortness of breath and severe leg pain.

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 20:45

@PrivateD00r I had what I thought was Covid in the spring, and I was very unwell then for 4-6 weeks. Pneumonia kicked in at about 2 weeks.

This time round it seems to be very similar but a lot milder.

I’m in bed now anyway, I feel a bit tired and although my chest is clear it also doesn’t feel right. I’m going to try and read something mindless and easy.

ScottishDream · 07/11/2020 20:47

@PrivateD00r I hope you feel better soon, abs have a restful night.

Turmeric tea is my best suggestion, it really made me feel better. Also sleeping propped up, or on your front.

CooperLooper · 07/11/2020 21:23

Does anybody have any tips for dealing with the sinus face pain from covid? 😥 I'm on day 7 now and this bloody face pain along with a headache is driving me mad.

Doesn't help that I'm in my third trimester so can't take Sudafed according to the packet!

SheilaTakeABow · 08/11/2020 09:39

Morning all.

@CooperLooper, I've found steam really helps, either just over a bowl or a really hot bath or shower.

How is everyone doing this morning?

DH has come to the conclusion he can't smell anything Sad but doesn't have any other symptoms. I'm confused now with isolating - the kids don't start again do they?
