I'm undecided. Would you?

Yes, absolutely.

And Moondust I thought your post was brilliant. Thank you for writing it. It's heartbreaking about the Ebola vaccine. We mustn't lose sight of how many children worldwide die of things they wouldn't die of if they were white and lived in Western countries. Humans are so self-serving so much of the time. I'd love to get this vaccine sorted and put a similar effort into other illnesses.

Most of you won’t even get the vaccine, I’ve read as much in the news. The priority will be NHS workers and the highly vulnerable.

But Kate Bingham, chair of the UK vaccine task force, said in October that it is “misguided” to presume everyone will be vaccinated.

She told the Financial Times (FT) that only half of the 67 million people in Britain will get it. “People keep talking about time to vaccinate the whole population but that is misguided,” she said. “We’re not fundamentally using the vaccine to create population immunity.”

Instead, Bingham said, the vaccine will be for people over the age of 50, focusing on “health workers, care home workers and the vulnerable,” she said. And it will definitely be adult only, with no one under the age of 18 getting the vaccine.

Not until a few years down the line and it was tested over time

Yes, I can't wait. I'm 60 so I expect I will be offered it before too long.

That doesn’t make sense.
Why would they set it up that way?

To protect the vulnerable

If everyone was vaccinated or low risk anyhow, then think how much more contact between people would be OK

I just thought they would let people who are healthy give it a try first in case something doesn’t go well

Same where I am in the US, the most vulnerable health-wise and those working in healthcare settings will be offered a vaccine first ( just announced it).

They’re the people who need protecting most from the virus so they get priority.

@Parker231

Those who don’t take the vaccine will probably continue with restrictions on how they can live their lives ie social distancing, not mixing with other households

I get the impression that many (not all) of those who don't want to have the vaccine are those who don't agree with restrictions and so might well already not be following them.

That’s what the 6 months or so of testing has been about!
Seriously, the vaccines (developed by countries with a tradition of scientific openness) have been very well trialled. While testing on tens of thousands of people doesn’t rule out the possibility of a one in a hundred thousand reaction they aren’t just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best!

Yes, but I won't be demanding one if I'm not part of the demographic who are eligible for it.

Yes if it is one that has been properly tested.

Yes. I just want an end to all this and if vaccine is the way to go then I'm all for it.

Very much doubt I'll be in front of the line for a long time (if at all), but if offered then I will take it no issue.

That’s a Phase 3 trial - already in progress and, for the Oxford & Pfizer vaccines, expected to report within a month or two.

Not a no but I’ll be at the very back of the queue once they’ve tested it on all of you who say yes.
