F you Boris

There will be civil unrest in Manchester following this and I don’t blame them.

People won’t follow the rules as they have no respect for the government any more. Does anyone? Incompetence bullshit and lies.

I think Andy Burnham chanced his hand and dug in his heels, no matter what was offered he wouldn't have backed down. He's making a name for himself and doing it on the backs of those who will die and those who will get sick with long term health problems.
I feel for those living in Manchester, great place, great people.

MaxNormal · 20/10/2020 18:15

Manchester isn't a special case, we all need to be treated the same way.

Indeed, and instead Manchester is receiving far less per head than other regions.

Redolent · 20/10/2020 18:16

Look at this, from the Financial Times. The UK admitted around half the coronavirus patients France did, and around a third of Spain's...and then we ended up with far more deaths than either of them.

People don’t seem to fully realise how fucked the NHS has been for years. Rationing beds and hospital admissions is now baked into the system. It is definitely starting to happening again in Manchester.

Manchester- screw you Boris

Whilst I'm not disagreeing with your point, it is worth noting that many countries will differ on the threshold that they admit people to hospital. I don't know about France and Spain personally but I've lived in five countries and in one of them, they'd admit you to hospital for absolutely anything because the insurance company would pay out.

Yes Andy Burnham should have done the right thing for the citizens of Manchester, instead of playing politics and trying to make a name for himself.
SleepingStandingUp · 20/10/2020 18:19

@calamityjam

I am with Andy Burnham. I know the rates are high here in Manchester but do you think that shutting pubs and betting shops will honestly make a blind bit of difference? Nah, folks round here will be having more house parties than ever this weekend and pushing the virus up even more. All this while Covid compliant business are driven to closing forever
So it won't make any difference having rules because everyone will break them? What do you want them to do? Just put a wall up around GM and let it rip through without hindrance?

Fuck Manchester and AB. Why do they they think they are so special. This pandemic is causing immense hardship and the sooner it comes back down to manageable levels the better. I’m fed up with hearing about the hospitality industry suffering. What about all the people and businesses who can’t begin to get back to work until things start to improve
I follow the rules and if I can’t spend Christmas with my family group of 5 I won’t be blaming the Government I will be the stupid idiots who don’t care about anyone else

I live in Salford. Cases have increased dramatically in the last few days alone. I take public transport and the number of people who refuse to wear masks or moan when I open the friggin windows is staggering. It has been anywhere between 30% to 50% not wearing masks on PT. People don’t wear masks in shops either. The pub near me still has people drinking after midnight, the police haven’t done anything about it. Based on my observations I knew this would happen so fuck off with your posturing, we’ve brought it on ourselves.

This is really depressing... If so many people can’t even wear a face covering on public transport while Covid cases soar with restrictions clearly coming, Manchester are in for a truly shitty time in the weeks ahead.

toxtethOgradyUSA · 20/10/2020 18:22

@BoulangerieBabs

toxteth I'm not moralising, I asked a question.

I'm very sorry to hear about your family member, I lost one this week so I understand.

However if the hospitals become overrun with Covid patients because people won't or can't comply, then there simply will not be any capacity to deal with anything else. It's not like doctors want to be deciding who lives and who dies.

BoulangerieBabs doctors decide who lives and die all the time. These types of decisions go on in the NHS every single day. I wish people would understand this. At the present time, for short term political reasons and nothing more, the government are DECIDING that covid takes precedence above all other illnesses. This is wrong (and there have been countless testimonies from doctors, surgeons, cardiologists, oncologists etc who all agree - I trust these people way more than any politician)
Blahblahblahallthetime · 20/10/2020 18:22

Burnham makes me sick. He says Manchester doesn’t have a problem but bung him the money he wants and he will agree Manchester has a problem! These are peoples lives. I really wish they would all stop posturing and playing political games.

If you think that the Tory want to close down businesses just for giggles I despair on the country we have become.

Thundercats77 · 20/10/2020 18:23

I thought with tier 3, you can't meet other households in their houses unless they are part of your support bubble. You can still meet up to 6 people outdoors in parks etc.
And pubs that don't serve substantial food will have to close. So everyone else can work. I haven't seen anything else ie gyms, restaurants cinemas etc having to close.
Surely they wouldn't need that much funding then?
Have I missed something?
It seems like AB wants to make some kind of example of BJ, look how I stood up to him in order to fight for our rights.

The whole thing is a farce and just does not make any sense. Soo many contradictions.

CraftyGin · 20/10/2020 18:23

If Mancunians had followed SD guidance, they wouldn’t be in this situation today.

ktp100 · 20/10/2020 18:24

Unfortunately though, people refusing to stick to the rules will continue to spread the virus around.

Soon the hospitals will be full again but it will be too late by then.

Of course the government are twats but common sense is needed, here.

FractionalGains · 20/10/2020 18:24

@MonkeySnake perhaps use your head - pubs don’t just “provide beer”, they provide employment to thousands of low paid workers who will be plunged into poverty when they are put out of work entirely by these restrictions.

And the PHE evidence shows far greater numbers of outbreaks in schools than in hospitality, which accounts for under 5% of them.

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 18:24

Blimey, imagine being gullible enough to believe this.
toxtethOgradyUSA · 20/10/2020 18:25

There's only one way to settle all this: a proper fight - northerners versus the soft southern pansies. Only one winner Grin

CraftyGin · 20/10/2020 18:25

Clearly not, because it is people who spread the virus.

Well done for a spectacular show of whaterboutery there. Bollocks to Andy Burnham for wanting to make sure people and businesses got support to ensure that they don't end up destitute. Utter bastard.
nocoolnamesleft · 20/10/2020 18:26

Boris is a fucking awful prime minister. But Burnham was a fucking awful health secretary. The numbers coming out of Manchester are scary...but even scary is some of the updates coming out of hospitals in the area. Boris is gambling with livelihoods, but Burnham is gambling with lives. Something had to be done.

I swear some people would jump off a cliff if Chris Whitty/AN other government advisor told them to.

You thinking that bars (not including anywhere serving food) are more important than schools is the reason why Manchester is in this situation. Too much drinking and not enough thinking.

CrappleUmble · 20/10/2020 18:27

The total lack of understanding of what makes a virus endemic is almost mesmerising.

MonkeySnake · 20/10/2020 18:28

@toxtethOgradyUSA You're right. 50% of people would jump off a cliff if the scientific advisors told them to and the other 50% would jump off a cliff if the advisors told them not to.
