Time taken to get test results

I’m really annoyed it takes so long! Surely the government should have this sorted by now. The whole family is on day 3 off school and work. My sons cough was borderline in my opinion. I’m wishing I hadn’t bothered getting him tested so we weren’t in this position! We’ve been tested before and had results in under 12 hrs, so it is possible.

I can’t be the only one thinking like this, surely the delay in getting results is going to put some people off being tested at all.

Test results back (-ve) just shy of 72 hours. Testing service is clearly under strain currently. Hope the rest of you get your results soon.

ImSleepingBeauty · 19/10/2020 13:41

@Beigeisthenewblack was yours postal or test centre? We’ve only just gone over the 48 for a test centre. Am I being really naive to think ours will be back today?!

ImSleepingBeauty · 19/10/2020 13:45

@DragonLegs did you get yours?

thisyearsuckssofar · 19/10/2020 15:48

I've so far been waiting just over 49 hours. Went to drive in test centre and I'm in Scotland.

Fizbosshoes · 19/10/2020 15:57

I read in metro today that some of the consultants in charge of t and t are on 7k a DAY!!!

SpideyMom · 19/10/2020 16:18

Got my results now. We are both negative and free to return to school and work tomorrow.
Ours were a home tests and received to the lab on Saturday morning, so we have been very lucky to get ours this soon.

I hope those waiting still get their answer soon

Beigeisthenewblack · 19/10/2020 16:22

Walk in centre local to me.

thisyearsuckssofar · 19/10/2020 17:44

Got my negative results back this afternoon after 50 hours.

teamBoo · 19/10/2020 18:09

We are coming up to 8 days waiting now. Dutifully waited out 5 days before escalating a query and still nothing. I'm assuming we won't hear back at this point until after DD has finished her self-isolation. It's just not good enough is it? Angry

Mumtumwobble · 19/10/2020 18:09

Husband got his this morning after about 22 hours. It was a walk in centre

Mumtumwobble · 19/10/2020 18:10

Dh is a teacher though so maybe that’s why it was quick

BatSegundo · 19/10/2020 19:15

5 days and nothing. Horrified that you've got to 8 days and nothing @teamBoo They've really screwed up, haven't they Angry

Moomin37 · 19/10/2020 20:05

We'll be at the five day mark tomorrow morning so it'll be another call to 119, not that it will help in any way Hmm The manager of my daughter's nursery said she's aware of people waiting a week or more for results...

Good news that some people have received theirs and that they're negative Smile

Dickorydockwhatthe · 19/10/2020 20:37

Well I finally got mine back after contacting my MP who then contacted the director of Public health for our town. She emailed me this morning with lots of apologies saying although she doesnt control or have input with the testing as different department she will look into as obviously somethings gone badly wrong and no one should be waiting this long. Within 20 mins of me sending ds details I received an email back saying she's found his results and they have come back void so he will need to retested although he is at the end of the isolation period and not sure I want to do it again. She said they should have notified me and doesn't understand why I wasn't contacted.I had rang 119 everyday and not once did they tell me this. She was very lovely and apologetic, and really sympathised with the wait and frustration and said she will pass this on to the health and social care department. It's not really the outcome I wanted but I hope this gets looked into.

Dickorydockwhatthe · 19/10/2020 20:38

Today was the 7th day by the way and I'd still probably be waiting. Why can't 119 or someone tract the results?

Sunshinegirl82 · 19/10/2020 20:44

I would honestly urge everyone to contact their MP's and keep chasing them. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, if enough people complain it might make a difference.

MarjorytheTrashHeap · 19/10/2020 20:49

I'm a teacher and was tested at a critical worker facility and still have no result after 83 hours so I don't think they do anything extra if you are a key worker. Starting to think mine has been lost.

I actually did email my MP earlier and actually got a very quick response about raising it with the relevant ministers, which I'm sure will achieve nothing but at least they are recognising it as an issue.

Rosehassometoes · 19/10/2020 21:03

I’m a key worker too- still approaching 7 days 😕

selfishjeanss · 19/10/2020 21:15

Key worker (education), here too. My postal test was received at the Glasgow Laboratory on 4th October. Still no results. My dd the same exactly. I did manage to get the correct email address for complaints if anyone wants to pm me

kittlesticks · 19/10/2020 21:22

No results yet here and it'll be 5 days tomorrow. I will chase again then and I will email my MP again. Although my MP is a minister at the heart of the madness so I don't expect any help there.
On Wednesday we will be at the end of DS's isolation period and it'll also be ten days since anyone in the wider family had any contact with him.
Today I tried to work with two kids under 3 and it was just impossible. I feel so incapable as both a work colleague and parent.
I won't test my kids again unless it's a test in hospital or the Drs. I will never take them to a test centre again, I will just keep them away from other people if they have temperatures or coughs, until they are better.
Test and trace isn't working. We will never get out of this pandemic unless it's fixed.

Whycatspaint · 20/10/2020 08:56

I’m at 134 hours now. It’s not just the disruption to kids education as DD is year 11 but if DS were positive how many kids in his school bubble might be walking around spreading it. WHO said the best way out of this was efficient testing 🙁

RiseUpWoman · 20/10/2020 10:15

144 for us.

My thoughts exactly, it's just not good enough.
MarjorytheTrashHeap · 20/10/2020 10:25

My DD was tested at a different drive through centre to me 24 hours later and her results have now come back after 62 hours but mine are still not back after 96 hours. Not as bad as some of you but still far too long. I'm starting to think they must have lost it. DD's was negative so I'm very sure mine will be too but can't prove it without the result!

kittlesticks · 20/10/2020 12:21

117 hours for us now. I have chased via the helpline and they said it will now be investigated. I don't have much hope tho!
