@MorrisZapp

They should put it in a big truck with lights on it, so we can all sing 'better days are coming! Better days are coming!' as it whizzes down the road. The truck driver should wave and smile.
Yes! With Santa on board. But not drinking a can of Coke in this version Grin

'First jabs could cut 99% of deaths' www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55169799
This is just amazing, surely better than we could have hoped for.

blametheparents · 03/12/2020 19:36

@tobee

Young people have suffered a lot this year (collateral damage). They also been getting a bad press for "spreading Covid" . Unfair in the most part.
This 100% In my experience, teenagers are doing their very best to protect their grandparents, work hard at school and deal with their lives changing completely - and without the emotional intelligence (due to their age) that adults have. I’ve seen my DD cry, be angry and sad (all I think the same day sometimes!) - and she still tries to do her best.

That's incredible!
FuzzyPuffling · 03/12/2020 19:58

By "first jabs" they mean Phase 1, which is all the current list above age 50. Sadly, not the first lorryload. I wish...

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 03/12/2020 20:47

This is amazing! So happy to have something to celebrate. The end (as much as any pandemic can end) is in sight.

I reckon next summer will be a bit mental. I know many will be suffering financially or have had a very hard year this year for all sorts of reasons but I'm also confident that people are in need of some fun. There are going to be a lot of happy people meeting up, partying, going on nice holidays, having street parties etc.

TeaInTheGarden · 04/12/2020 11:12

@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair oh that sounds sooooo good. We are hoping to go on our holiday to Italy that we cancelled this year. Will definitely we more appreciated (if it happens) than it would have been. I’m hoping my kids feel this too as I do think they were probably getting a bit blasé and entitled about holidays. A year on pause could actually make everything so much better in future.
I for one am going to try my very best to appreciate every tiny little thing we get back.

Boris said to book weddings next year for summer ☺️

tobee · 04/12/2020 17:10

Damn! I'm married already

Grin
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/12/2020 17:13

You could book one for someone else?
Maybe him.

Lol this is first thing to make me smile today. A sale on a house we really wanted fell through today. My DP tried to cheer me up by saying oh well we will get married instead. I cried even more saying we can't do that either cos of covid!! So this comment really made me smile Smile

A not so subtle message to Carrie?

@Jrobhatch29 better get planning! That will be nice for you.

I think everyone should have anniversary parties, birthday parties or whatever, if they're not getting married.

I'm going to make a real effort to go to theatres, cinemas and concerts when things are better.

Treaclepie19 · 04/12/2020 21:40

I'm definitely having a party for my birthday. It was my 30th this year, in lockdown May so the takeaways were the only thing open. I'll have a big 30+1 party 😊😊😊

wildbarnet · 04/12/2020 22:11

I intend on hugging , getting drunk and not moan about train delays ever again next year 😉

Ethelfleda · 04/12/2020 22:27

blametheparents · 04/12/2020 22:58

@Ethelfleda - Welcome!

I made the mistake of taking a look and then commenting on a crazy Covid thread!
Should’ve steered well clear.

The Novavax trial has completed recruitment for its Phase 3 trial and its possible there may be some early data next year. I understand that this is a vaccine that many scientists are excited about.

chri55ie · 05/12/2020 08:14

This is the only thread I really look at now. Much safer! I fixed that GP’s are being told to get ready for mass vaccination by 14th Dec

cathyandclare · 05/12/2020 13:36

Not Covid- But a team from Oxford's Jenner Institute have developed a vaccine they think will protect against malaria- it's going into clinical trials. Incredible if it's effective.

tobee · 05/12/2020 15:45

That's really good news @cathyandclare

News on the Uk recovery trials www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/health/coronavirus/more-600000-uk-residents-take-part-covid-treatment-research-3058554
Well done to everyone involved.

Ethelfleda · 06/12/2020 07:53

Thank you blame
You forget sometimes how ‘fired up’ it can get around here Grin

pearlypidge · 06/12/2020 09:28

It's behind a paywall, so I can't read it, but the Telegraph has Matt Hancock down as saying that the vaccination programme "will loosen Covid tiers before end of March" and that he "can't wait to get us back to living by personal responsibility".

So that sounds a bit more optimistic.
