Hard to believe SmileAmazing!

MarshaBradyo · 02/12/2020 08:39

It’s weird how people respond on mn with so much negativity

But this thread tg it’s here

But honestly without this vaccine we would be broken. It’s momentous.

GrumpySausage · 02/12/2020 08:45

Such good news. Starting to feel we can get through this and return to some normality.

Does anyone know when the Oxford astrazeneca jab was submitted for approval? Could we expect a similar time frame for Oxford approval?

I think it's taken about 3 weeks for Pfizer to be approved, so end of December for Oxford?

Pfizer actually applied on 23rd November, so 8 days.
cathyandclare · 02/12/2020 08:49

Oxford/AZ applied on the 27th, so 4 days behind. However, I suppose there's more to consider with the optimum dosage question.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/12/2020 08:51

What a start to the day :)

Treaclepie19 · 02/12/2020 08:53

I'm over the moon.

feelingverylazytoday · 02/12/2020 09:03

Fantastic news, especially for those of us who had faith in the scientists all along. I feel we've been vindicated.
Can't wait to be vaccinated, presumably it will be the Oxford/AZ by the time I get my turn.

Lindy2 · 02/12/2020 09:07

I feel like a huge weight is starting to lift.

My mum is over 80 and diabetic so hopefully she will qualify quite quickly. DH will also get some priority due to his work. I have optimism today and I haven't really felt that for a long while.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/12/2020 09:30

So pleased about Pfizer.
I hope frontline NHS staff get real priority and it begins to change the landscape very soon.

Moderna are now saying "100% in severe cases" whatever that means. Feels a bit competitive vaccines to me...but I'm not too upset about that 😁

Im on a chronic kidney disease Facebook group and so many people are saying " not having it". I'm staggered at both that, and the level of ignorance about why these vaccines have been able to be produced so quickly. Makes me hope there are some community restrictions on the "could have had it but chose not to" people ( travel, pubs, workplaces) as we need herd immunity and it's just not fair to expect other people to provide that. Rights and responsibilities...

Boredsilly · 02/12/2020 10:02

Just the best news, I'm starting to feel so much more positive about the future that we are going to get through this!

JemimaPyjamas · 02/12/2020 12:27

I am absolutely delighted too! The light at the tunnel is getting bigger! I am a priority too (type 1 diabetic) so I reckon it won't be too long for mine, hopefully within a few months. DH turned 50 in Sept so he's just managed to get on a list, admittedly a lower group but I think he'll still be 'done' by Easter.
It's reassuring that it didn't take long to get the approval. I have also seen FB posts by normally reasonable people about how they are concerned, or it's rushed. One client I have was going on about how she's seen videos about how it's made from aborted foetus's and something about 'mass adverse reactions.' It was hard to reply in a measured and non sarcastic tone, but the inability for some to do basic research astounds me sometimes. I really hope that people start to come round to the idea and have the bloody vaccine, it must be awful for anyone who cannot actually have one.

blametheparents · 02/12/2020 16:09

This is interesting information.

Good News Thread - part 2
cathyandclare · 02/12/2020 16:33

Yes, bearing in mind there will be some overlap between the groups, there should be enough to vaccinate the majority of the high risk people that want it. Social care workers at private facilities also need to be added to the list.

TeaInTheGarden · 02/12/2020 19:02

Fingers and toes crossed for oxford now too. Let’s hope they approve it just as quickly as this one!! Could really speed things up, we have more and it’s easier to distribute....

OrangeBananaFish · 02/12/2020 22:40

I've been following this thread for a while now and I just want to say I'm looking forward to Monday/Tuesday. Also hoping for Oxford new soon.

Just sharing more info on the exams changes I mentioned the other day, it has been announced for certain today www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-55160374

Orangeblossom77777 · 03/12/2020 09:49

More generous grading, advance notice of exam topics and additional papers are promised by the Department for Education to make up for the disruption faced by students during the pandemic.
Those who cannot sit exams due to self-isolation rules will still get a grade.
Heads said it was "a reasonable package" of measures for the situation.

The measures mean:
more generous grading than usual, in line with results from summer 2020, so that this year's cohort is not disadvantaged
students getting advance notice - at the end of January - of some topic areas covered in exams to focus revision
exam aids - such as formula sheets - provided in some exams to cut down on the memorising required
additional "backup" exams - to be held in July - to give students a second chance to sit a paper if they have to miss main exams or assessments due to illness or self-isolation
and a new expert group, which will monitor variation in the impact of the pandemic on students across the country.

MarshaBradyo · 03/12/2020 09:50

That’s fantastic Orange

Right approach imo

Orangeblossom77777 · 03/12/2020 11:00

Yes I am glad about this - my DS qualifies for extra time in exams too so altogether think this will help a lot.

tobee · 03/12/2020 17:51

Young people have suffered a lot this year (collateral damage). They also been getting a bad press for "spreading Covid" . Unfair in the most part.

Vaccine arrived in U.K. says Sky News

💉 💉 SmileSmile🎉🥳👏🥂💉💉

MorrisZapp · 03/12/2020 18:03

They should put it in a big truck with lights on it, so we can all sing 'better days are coming! Better days are coming!' as it whizzes down the road. The truck driver should wave and smile.
