Oh that’s sounds so promising. I have been having a bit of a low day so that has really cheered me up! Thank you. Ps I too am convinced someone has had a peek at the Oxford results too much is riding on it!

newtothenet · 19/11/2020 19:41

@rubbishatballet - all adults to be vaccinated by April. As in all adults? My DH is ECV so I was disappointed that he was quite far down the list (although I understand the reasons) but April is really soon!

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 19:41

That's very interesting. Really VERY interesting!

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 19:44

newtothenet My DH is also CEV and I was also disappointed he's no 6 on the list (and I'm no7 and he won't change his behaviour until I am vaccinated too) so everyone by April would be staggeringly amazing.

rubbishatballet · 19/11/2020 19:52

Yep, all adults (obviously with the caveat that this is the plan as things stand!).

Fizbosshoes · 19/11/2020 20:03

I would be pleasantly amazed if all adults were vaccinated by April but for that even to be a plan is really hopeful.

Has this already been posted?

Good news re arthritis drug and critically ill Covid patients:-

Tocilizumab: Arthritis drug may treat severe Covid www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55002339

tobee · 19/11/2020 20:11

@FuzzyPuffling my Dh is also ecv. Is that priority list set in stone now?

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 20:16

I'm not sure tobee. i question it, bearing in mind that last march he wasn't allowed beyond the garden gate, it was so risky. And he's working age, so it would help to get the economy buoyant again.

PowerslidePanda · 19/11/2020 20:21

Thank you, @rubbishatballet - I'm so pleased that the (current) plan includes healthy under 50s too!

(I may be low risk, but I'm also the primary carer for a 3 year old and 1 year old twins and have no local support; so the possibility of contracting long covid terrifies me!)

This!

If you think about it, it is unethical not to get everyone vaccinated by April, or as soon as is humanly possible. I know logistically this is potentially not that straightforward and I certainly don't want to be the one volunteer to sort that all out, but we have vaccines which work and are safe, the population has been asked to restrict their lifestyles/movement for months and in many cases individuals have taken a huge financial hit. We know an unlucky few can die from the virus even when they're young and otherwise healthy. Morally speaking, you do everything you can to get everyone sorted out, surely. I would have the army working literally 24/7 to do this.

wildbarnet · 19/11/2020 20:42

@TheKeatingFive

My London trust have said we are likely to start vaccinations 1 Dec

Wow, that’s soon

Omg I hope thus is true
BlueBlancmange · 19/11/2020 20:45

It really does seem to be all go suddenly, doesn't it? Smile

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2020 20:57

Hope so!

I agree. The WHO feel it's unethicial for wealthy countries to vaccinate their entire population - arguing that it's fairer for all countries to vaccinate their vulnerable instead. I do agree that all countries should have access to the vaccines, regardless of their wealth - but the formula for risk is severity x probability, and it feels like they're overlooking the probability side of it with that stance. Mass vaccinations in the worst hit countries are just as necessary as vaccinations for the most vulnerable in countries with relatively few cases - not least because there will be some vulnerable people who can't be vaccinated and need to rely on herd immunity.
Daisy829 · 19/11/2020 21:11

Its all positive news. Someone I know works for the nhs & have had info that they will start vaccinating them in dec & also nhs workers will have home testing kits to be used twice a week with results to be uploaded onto an online system. Definitely light at the end of the tunnel. Stay strong people.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 21:15

Thank you all. Just thank you. I wish I knew some of you irl; I could use some of your splendid dollops of positivity!

OrangeBananaFish · 19/11/2020 21:34

I love this thread and have been reading it continuously (even though this is my second post on it). I'm not sure if this is the right place as its a bit reading between the lines kind of thing so apologies if its not the right place.

I often do parkrun and DD2 enjoys junior parkrun which I volunteer at. So I got an email today with a survey about junior parkrun and whether or not I would be happy for junior parkrun to resume in January. A few months ago I got a similar survey about normal parkrun. It was only a few weeks after that when they announced that they were hoping to resume events in October. Obviously it didn't happen in the end due to the figures rising again.

From what I have read parkrun are liasing with the government regarding a possible return so does this mean that plans are happening for things (not necessarily parkrun) to possibly return fairly soon in 2021. Possibly because the government are aware that vaccines may be going ahead, at least for the vulnerable etc.

Sorry I know it is a bit reading between the lines and nothing that's fact, but it did give me a little more hope inside.

rubbishatballet · 19/11/2020 21:43

@OrangeBananaFish I had an email the other day inviting me to enter the Vitality half marathon in London on 25 April and had the same thought that the organisers must have more intel than has been made public.

OrangeBananaFish · 19/11/2020 22:01

@rubbishatballet I think a lot of races are hopeful for next year. It's killing me not entering the 10K in Feb that I loved earlier this year. I'm just holding off entering now just in case. I also have a half marathon the end of March (that I was supposed to do this year, but obviously didn't happen)

Pomegranatespompom · 19/11/2020 22:34

@Daisy829 yes re the twice weekly self testing for nhs frontline staff. Positives will be verified with a lab test though.

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/11/2020 08:06

An autoimmune drug used for arthritis showing promising results as a treatment. Of interest to me as DH has been put on the shielding list due to taking a similar biologic med.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/11/2020 09:11

It’s wonderful when it’s existing drugs, isn’t it Orangeblossom? And they can start right away instead of having to go through safety trials.

Orangeblossom7777 · 20/11/2020 10:27

It's interesting as originally I noticed that people on immune suppressants seemed to be less at risk...and now this.
