See for example here-

"Patients prescribed a TNF alpha inhibitor had significantly lower odds for hospitalization. TNF alpha inhibitors are part of a class of immunosuppressive biologics used to stop inflammation."

Article regarding a potential roll out of vaccine.
Maybe we’ll all get to go on holiday after all!

MarcelineMissouri · 20/11/2020 15:57

Wow. Looks like Kate Bingham's comments about there being no intention to vaccinate the under 50's held no water then. I wonder why she said it. But anyway, absolutely great news Smile
blametheparents · 20/11/2020 16:12

Obvs I am not shallow enough to only care about my holiday, just in case anyone gets upset about that statement.

I have a CEV Dad who I would like to have a vaccine, and my daughter is in year 11 so I would like her to have some 'normality' at school and this plan would help to ensure that her 6th form studies are not ruined.

chri55ie · 20/11/2020 16:15

Oh don’t worry @blametheparents I certainly wasn’t offended! Really pleased to see this news.

Press conference tonight apparently with Matt Hancock....

MarcelineMissouri · 20/11/2020 16:26

I think everyone deserves a holiday after this - it’s certainly high on my priority list!!

tootyfruitypickle · 20/11/2020 17:47

I just came on to post the end of Jan article. How absolutely amazing! I was hoping for June!!

FuzzyPuffling · 20/11/2020 18:01

I have everything crossed that this works out. Still want to see some Phase threes from O/AZ before I really really cheer.

(But we've booked tickets to Pete Tong in mid June at a local festival.)

Another piece of positive research about ongoing immunity. A study from Oxford shows immunity lasts at least 6 months.

This is from the Oxford Mail, it's also in the Telegraph but behind a pay wall.

Holidays are like lots of other seemingly unimportant things - actually they are very important. Humans need breaks and things to look forward to. They add colour to life plus they provide people with employment. Quite right you care about your holiday.

JemimaPyjamas · 20/11/2020 18:46

I have been planning our holiday for the past three bloody years - it took two to save up for it, and then we had to cancel. I have barely been five miles from my own house since March! Holidays may seem trivial to some but, fuck me, they are important!!

Jrobhatch29 · 20/11/2020 18:50

I also can't wait for a holiday! Sick of the sight of my own town now ha

How likely is this? I mean then it about all adults over 18 getting it late January?
MarshaBradyo · 20/11/2020 18:56

There is so much I am looking forward to I can barely type it just in case. But to start with the end of crappy disposable mask litter. And masks.

Aposterhasnoname · 20/11/2020 19:02

Well Hancock waffled, but he didn’t dismiss it, so I’m cautiously optimistic.

Oooh I missed the briefing today. What did he say?
Aposterhasnoname · 20/11/2020 19:12

He said have to wait for approval, and can only go at speed it can be manufactured but are putting everything in place to roll out as soon as poss.

JemimaPyjamas · 20/11/2020 19:28

Isn't it the Oxford one that is likely to be the one most of us in the Uk have? It seems ridiculous when the one from the US is also more expensive and has to be stored at a very low temp, makes far more sense for the Oxford one to be the main one.

The Oxford vaccine hasn't completed phase 3 trials yet, though results so far are very promising. No doubt the minute data comes in, it will be rolled out for the reasons you mention.

Normally I travel abroad for work several times a year but I've barely been outside a 5km radius of my home in 8 months! Absolutely sick of the sight of my town too! Please nobody tell me to 'go for a walk' again!

Absolutely this!

I've been saying since the start of the pandemic on these boards. I've been shielding dh since March and have two parents in their 80s. But I'm sick of twats saying people shouldn't be sad about their holidays being cancelled. We all live in a rich and mixed society. I don't want to live in a world where there's some kind of top trumps of misery and only certain people are allowed to feel sad. We all live our own experiences of life. That's what makes the vaccine news and treatment news so great. Living in a world again with freedoms for all of us.

Deliaskis · 20/11/2020 22:59

I'm also quite relieved to read the holiday yearning on here. We normally love our holidays, as family time away from home, plus I usually travel a lot for work. I miss it! I miss the variety. I miss my life of staying and working all over Europe. I miss restaurants. I miss exploring and discovering, the sights and sounds and flavours of other places.

And mostly on here (not this thread!), people are called selfish or stupid or vacuous... or worse, for missing these things that are the fabric of life for many people, because 'we're in the middle of a global pandemic'.

I found my people, it's ok to miss this stuff, in fact it's normal. And finally we can have hope that it might soon be back within reach, a little at a time....

Defenbaker · 20/11/2020 23:29

Lots of good news - we need to focus on these things, to make the next few weeks easier. The news that vaccines will be rolled out fairly soon for the most vulnerable, with wider vaccination happening during spring, gives real hope that next summer will be so much better for everyone. I think tourism and hospitality will suddenly become massively busy as everyone tries to make up for lost time, and there will be such a buzz once the vaccine gives people confidence to socialise again. That said, maybe masks and SD will still be needed, until everyone has received the vaccine, but I think I will feel like a weight has been lifted, once I've had the vaccine.

TheRubyRedshoes · 20/11/2020 23:48

It will be so odd going into shops without a mask and hand gel. Being able to smile at people properly!.
I feel naked now if I don't have a mask on me and hand gel even if I'm not getting out of the car..

It will be so odd, its fascinating how brain washed I've become in a short time!
