A friend (care worker) has been offered an appointment on the 4th December!

cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 09:50

It's presumably preparation in anticipation of approval, but still encouraging that the systems are all being set in place.

Oooh that's amazing. I'd love to know more about who/how they contacted her, have they told her which vaccine it will be etc. But understand if you can't disclose/don't know x
cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 11:59

I think it's just through work, they asked everyone to say whether they would be happy to have the vaccine on X date.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/11/2020 13:27

I wonder if the rumour that the Oxford results would be out this week came from a misunderstanding of the fact that the Lancet paper would be published.

tootyfruitypickle · 19/11/2020 13:37

It sounds like the phase 3 results might be end of next week then, if plan is to start vaccinations the week after ?

tootyfruitypickle · 19/11/2020 13:38

Would be amazing to get all care workers and care home residents covered by Christmas, that might mean families can visit ?

MarcelineMissouri · 19/11/2020 13:56

@tootyfruitypickle isn’t that plan based on the Pfizer vaccine though, not Oxford?

I think it's the Pfizer vaccine roll out not AZ in early December.
cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 13:57

It's a great start, but it needs two shots ( 3 weeks apart) and then another week before there's immunity, so not for Xmas.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 14:37

I thought Oxford AZ were only going to unblind after 164 cases, whereas Pfizer's original unblind number was 32, which is rather a difference.
Of course Pfizer held fire until 94 especially to piss off Trump so less of a gap.
Come on ChAdOx. I'm rooting for you.

Yes why 94? Seems a strange number to decide on, why not 90 or 100? That must have been a conscious decision and I suspect was connected somewhat to the election. Unless they did decide on 90 but 4 infections all came in on the same day Grin
cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 14:59

AZ is 75 for interim and 150 for final analysis
Pf was 32, 62, 92, 120 and 164.

The FDA weren't happy with an early analysis 32. There was a lot of negotiating and by the time they agreed on the 62, they'd already reached 92!!

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 15:17

Thanks CathyandClaire. That makes sense.

Article about a PHE study - 1 in 4 people could be immune to covid due to exposure to other coronaviruses

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/11/19/many-could-immune-covid-despite-never-having-infected-study/

chri55ie · 19/11/2020 17:48

Fergus Walsh tweeted just now saying Az have delivered 4 million doses of Oxford Vaccine to British Gov and millions more doses frozen ready to go. Great news as I was under the impression from Kate Bingham that there were only 4 million doses ready and the rest had to be manufactured still!

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2020 17:53

Could I be any more anticipatory about an upcoming large scale event? I think not.

Will probably cry if the news is good. And dance around.

Please let it be good!

chri55ie · 19/11/2020 18:05

I know! Please please let the results be good!

midgetem · 19/11/2020 18:06

Rumours circulating twitter that Oxford are annoucing vaccine results soon - some twitter people are saying imminently, and others saying next week. Fingers crossed as 3 difference vaccines will hopefully mean the people who most need a vaccine can get one (for example there are rumours that immunosuppresed people may not be able to have the pfeizer one)

tootyfruitypickle · 19/11/2020 18:07

Yes I just have the feeling the govt has been waiting for Oxford ....?

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 18:39

I am praying the news is good too. As a shielding household it really really matters to us.

FifeQuine · 19/11/2020 18:53

New member but long time reader of this thread here, thank you all for the positivity over the last few months.

This was all over our news in Scotland tonight. Plans for a million people to be vaccinated in Scotland by the end of January, and all adults by the end of April. It would be wonderful if they can make it happen. My fingers, and every other part of me, are crossed.

Good news about a nasal spray which, while not able to totally prevent infection, can offer some protection. And all the ingredients are already approved so it should be able to bypass the usual testing procedures.

www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/latest/2020/11/anti-covid-19-nasal-spray-%27ready-for-use-in-humans%27.aspx

FuzzyPuffling · 19/11/2020 19:27

Oh that nasal spray one is interesting. Anything that can hep slow infections or transmission simply is a big win. It would be great in schools for example.

rubbishatballet · 19/11/2020 19:29

I've had sight of our current local mass vaccination plans and 1 Dec is the start date, with all adults to be vaccinated (both doses) by the middle of April. The plans are fully broken down into numbers in each age group and category in the local population, including different types of population (eg care homes, prisons etc), also NHS staff and care workers. The plans are quite specific about who and how many will be vaccinated in each week.

If all goes according to those plans this really could very soon be over!

(And I'm convinced that they already know Oxford/AZ is in the bag.)
