I just looked up the express article and it seems to be saying Oxford will release phase 2 trial results today?? Am I reading that right? That would be annoying! Come on phase 3!

tootyfruitypickle · 19/11/2020 07:03

It’s today !! Robust immune response including in over 70s. On the news at the mo. Don’t have phase 3 results yet tho.

tootyfruitypickle · 19/11/2020 07:04

Easier to produce than the other vaccines so can be scaled up more quickly .

tobee · 19/11/2020 07:24

I am sooooo impatient to see their phase 3 results!!!

MarshaBradyo · 19/11/2020 07:28

Me too. Even that small announcement this morning made me feel excitement. God hope it’s good news soon!

wildbarnet · 19/11/2020 07:29

So exciting !!! What do you ladies think about all these anti vaxers saying it has not been tested enough, made too quick etc they are driving me mad

furloughandfallow · 19/11/2020 07:33

Good news so far from Astrozeneca, but yes, just more info from their phase 2. I strongly suspect there has been government pressure to update...

Boredsilly · 19/11/2020 07:35

This is all such good news so exciting!

cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 07:59

It's a paper following on from an earlier announcement.

I wonder whether Oxford's decision to have a smaller control group has slowed things down. They had only 10000 controls. If the vaccine is highly effective, mostly the control group will contract the virus, it could take a long time for 75 ( or 150 for full results) to get infected.

Arcadia · 19/11/2020 08:03

So many times during the pandemic people have said to me 'thanks you've made me feel better' because I've focussed on positive side of things, when so many people seem to give up and just think the worst of everything.
I believe in a small way I've been able to help other people due to this.

Arcadia · 19/11/2020 08:09

@wildbarnet I'm not too concerned

MarcelineMissouri · 19/11/2020 08:12

@cathyandclare

Isn’t it 10000 here though and then on top of that trials running in other countries?
cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 08:21

I think it's 10000 controls overall and 20000 getting the vaccine ( or 13000/26000 if they've recruited more)

Oxford have gone for 2:1 vaccines against controls. The others were equally split. So, if the vaccines are effective ( which they seem to be) Oxford could take longer to hit the number of infections needed to unblind.

I'm not in any way saying this is bad, just postulating that it's the reason it's taking a while. With a positive spin- if the vaccine didn't work surely they'd have had 75 people infected across the whole group by now!!!

cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 08:22

This is interesting on the protocols.

TeaInTheGarden · 19/11/2020 08:50

Argh good news but was blowing for phase 3 data this week.... would they have released this now if phase 3 was coming this week too...? Trying to manage my expectations as the suspense is unreal now!

cathyandclare · 19/11/2020 08:56

Andrew Pollard said before Xmas, but he may be trying to manage expectation!!

Mybrowneyedgal · 19/11/2020 09:11

Argh I'm quite disappointed, I thought we would get the phase three results this week. It seems like we might be waiting a while?

Fleshlumpeater · 19/11/2020 09:34

I think it could be a good call having a big announcement saying it’s safe first before announcing efficacy as safety is what the naysayers are shouting about with the other two vaccines.

Pomegranatespompom · 19/11/2020 09:37

My London trust have said we are likely to start vaccinations 1 Dec. Will find out more.
Sorry if I posted this twice - can’t see original post.

Wow, that’s soon

Pomegranatespompom · 19/11/2020 09:40

I happened to be in a pharmacy meeting yesterday - they are developing strategy for administration. It won’t be mandatory.
